Catching up on the announcements, Black Christmas is a no brainer for me! Definitely double dipping for that title, one of my all time favorites. Glad I have no interest in the others though, trying to save $$$$$$.

Neither of those are correct.

Interesting.. I will ask about them again , funny how people working for different labels have different answers

Anyway that's what I was told, so there it is. For years, on forums, and even on Facebook some members had said that the two films were with Bing Crosby productions and waiting for the music rights of Ben to clear

This is true Cliff .. (and I hope you know me well enough that I dont invent information, not my way whatsoever )

When you get older in life, you realize that
1)there is nothing wrong with being wrong or being corrected
2)it is okay to not know everything. Im glad I dont. One is never to old to learn or gain knowledge

And in no way shape or form was my post done for malice - it was just something I had heard and wanted to share with us curious types.

Back to Batman vs Superman Dawn of Justice now

I'm hoping too that Scream gets the rights to the Nightmare on Elm Street films some day. Just imagine a box set similar to the Halloween limited set, and similar to the Nightmare US DVD box-set!!

Not unless Warner changes their policy and starts to actually make deals (outside the Criterion special circumstances)

There's been a lot of speculation that Scream will eventually do a Collector's Edition of the original Last House on the Left. I kind of forgot the remake is owned by Universal and happens to have a bare bones Blu-ray release. I wonder what the odds are of them doing both? I don't necessarily know how popular the remake is in the horror community though. Personally, it's one of the few remakes I love, but what are everyone else's thoughts on it?

I thought the remake was really good and a lot better than the original.

I 100% disagree. The original was a product of it's time and was a ground breaking film that defined a genre. The remake is just one more quick cash grab that made 0 impact and has been quickly forgotten.

I don't blame the studio for remaking it, but I'll never understand how someone could consider it superior to the Craven original.

I think the remake of The Last House on the Left is a superior film, though not nearly as gritty and unrelenting as the original. It's also not quite as mean-spirited either; which is what makes the original so hard to watch.

I saw it in theaters and the extended DVD really sold me even more that this is one of the rare cases of the remake being better. IIRC, even Wes Craven agree it was an overall better movie; I think he said that in an on-camera interview once though I can't remember where (maybe on the DVD?).

Personally, unless they're gonna restore it in 4K, I'd rather Scream Factory stay away from the already stacked Last House on the Left blu-ray from Fox. After all, most of the cast/crew are dead now anyway. What could they possibly add in terms of bonus content? Just a slipcover won't motivate me to trade-up.

I think you're being a little harsh on it and giving the original way too much credit. There's no denying the impact the original had on the genre back then, but that doesn't mean it's a great movie by any means. It's remembered for how shocking it was back then, not the quality of the actual film itself. Craven himself even states the remake is much superior to the original in the brief Look Inside feature on the remake's blu-ray. The remake definitely has it's share of issues as well, but I think it deserves a little more credit than you're giving it. Especially in comparison to most remakes such as The Fog, When A Stranger Calls, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween 1 & 2, Carrie, The Hitcher, Prom Night, Friday the 13th, etc.

I agree with you as well. I think the remake is a superior film, but lacks aspects of what made the original so memorable (no, not the goofy cops). The remake is a lot more stylized, so it kind of took away that gritty documentary feel the original had. It's definitely not nearly as mean-spirited; I think one of the aspects of the remake that is ridiculous is the characterization of Krug's son in contrast to the original. Anyway, yeah, Craven says that on the DVD/Blu-ray brief "Look inside" clip. Yeah, I agree with you. I just picked up the original blu-ray at Best Buy for $5. It's already loaded with features and there's only so much you could possibly do with the picture quality of that film. I just assume since the well is getting more and more dry, they'll eventually pull the trigger on re-releasing that one.

I feel like all this quoting of Craven on a promo featurette for a studio remake of his film (that he made money on when people saw, and probably made MORE money to say that) holds as much water as James Cameron's comments on Terminator Genisys, if not less

The Last House remake doesn't have Ada Washington and her chickens, so it's automatically inferior.

I watched the remake about a year ago and thought it was really bland. It's one thing to do away with the gritty, documentary-like vibe of the original, but the characters were dull as dishwater. They were totally devoid of personality, which the original characters had plenty of. It's technically well-made, sure, but otherwise, I just found it to be soulless.

What are the chances of Tremors getting a Scream edition in the near future?

Highly likely. Hopefully it will be from a fresh HD master, otherwise what's the point.
