Yeah, I hope it makes it out before Christmas as well, but if they have to delay it for a new transfer, I would definitely be willing to wait!

It sounds like they will try and load it up with all of the previous extras as well as several new ones, fix the audio sync issues, etc., which is all great news, but this film desperately needs a new transfer, and it sounds like it is not a done deal at this point.

I wonder if they are having trouble locating materials to create a new transfer, which is a little worrying.

Emphasis on "sometimes." I think Warner Brothers owns Cruising in perpetuity via it's acquisition of Lorimar.

I love this film, but they should take however much time they need to make sure that have a truly definitive release.

Yeah, I really don't care when it comes out, as long is its a good release. I hope we don't run into another situation like the original Hell Hole announcement.

I doubt that will happen with Black Christmas. I'm sure the elements are quite accessible, unlike Hellhole which is this obscure thing.

The German label that released it recently (-ish) said they went looking for materials but where unable to locate any.

I hope SF will be able to.

even though im quoting you, i wasnt "necessarily" directing my smart aleck-ness at you.

i would conjecture that people who want to add slumber party 2 to their collection, may be more concerned with having a full series than with quality.

Hey folks. I am looking for some advice on whether to keep around my old copies of various movies I've just bought the Scream Factory versions of, or whether they're now redundant/objective-inferior and now can be sold off. What do you all think for each of these? The one on the left is the old one I have, the one on the right is the Scream Factory (for reference) for each below:

Return of the Living Dead

Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Carrie

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

The Thing

Old Carrie has an awful transfer and no special features, so it seems like a no-brainer to get rid of that one. Old Invasion of the Body Snatchers has a decent transfer, though probably not as good as the new Scream Factory one, right? I think all of its special features are on the new set as well. Old Return of the Living Dead has a pretty bad transfer in my opinion, the new one is probably objectively better and not worth keeping the old one for, right? I also think all of its special features are on the new set. And finally, old Bill & Ted has a mediocre transfer and set of special features, and I assume that all features will be present on the new edition as well as having a new transfer. Basically, my assumption is that NONE of the old discs are going to be worth keeping for 99% of people who would have both... but I'm open to anyone's advice if they think there's any reason to regret not having the old version around anymore.

And The Thing, I honestly have on clue. Worth keeping the old one??? Thoughts?

It's pretty safe to say that the old versions don't offer much, if anything, that most average fans will feel they are worth keeping around. With that said, I personally no longer sell any of my films. The prices I typically can get for them are lower than the effort required to sell/mail them out, and the personal value is higher than that low amount.

Yeah those are all like $8 discs on Amazon, they won't sell for anything on Ebay anyway. You might get a dollar from a local place. None of them have any reason to be kept that I can think of, though Invasion might be worth keeping for the warmer color timing.

I've never sold my old dvds/blu rays. I donate them, give them to friends, etc. I've never understood all the posts throughout the years of people talking about selling their old copies.... I could never see how they could find anyone/anywhere to make it worthwhile....

your posts kind of confirm that but still, what are people getting for their old dvd's and blu rays to make it worth the time? ............ especially dvd's

Well it greatly depends on the movie. I have sold many things on Ebay for damn near what I paid for them. Label stuff like Criterions and Shout Factories sell very well, as do box sets. I made a profit selling my Bond 50 set when I got the newer set. These $5 discs don't sell though.

I have a local Mom & Pop store (that has millions in product, so they aren't that small anymore) called the Game Room that only sells used product. The last time I traded in anything was years and years ago, but was typically offered around $1-$2 per Blu Ray and around $.10 - $.50 per DVD. They sell their used DVD's for around $3 - $8 and their Blu Ray's for $4 - $20. They've become wiser as it pertains to OOP stuff in recent years so there are always pricing exceptions, but overall the trade value is usually abysmally low.

Personally, in the last few years I've become more aware of online preservation communities that utilize resources from past 16/35mm film prints, DVD's, Laserdiscs, and Blu Rays to create ultimate editions of films long neglected (or in a lot of cases, not currently available on Blu Ray). It's through their preservation discussions that I've learned to value my old copies of films and why I now choose to keep everything I've already paid for as in some cases those older copies have much more to offer me than the $.10 - $5 someone would pay me for them.

yeah, I fully expected Criterion, Twilight Time, Scream, etc to have value.

I guess what has always made my wonder is when I hear someone say "time to sell my old dvd" when a catalog title comes out.... as TRIPLEHBK stated... 50 cents for a dvd? It just doesn't seem to be remotely worth the time and effort......

Look at all of the people that refuse to buy a title because it isn't at their "magic number" even if it's only selling for $1 or $2 higher than that number. To some people, every dollar counts.
