Ummmm...(the following is a spoiler for the movie. Don't want it spoiled? don't click!)
[Show spoiler]the killer is never even revealed in the movie. I think the controversy with this artwork is that you only see the killer's in eye in the movie.

I did hear today that Prom Night II was with Samuel Goldwyn who licensed it to Echo Bridge. Not sure if that makes a blu ray hopeless or not

The reason it's a big spoiler is that
[Show spoiler]until the very end you think it was the crazy boyfriend and that art showed it wasn't. So, it was like a weird reverse spoiler!
Moot point now, though!

I don't think that's accurate about Samuel Goldwyn. The Samuel Goldwyn Company (not to be mistaken with Samuel Goldwyn Films) handled theatrical distribution in the US, but the company and it's library were sold to Metromedia in 1996. It was then acquired by MGM along with Orion Pictures and Motion Picture Corporation of America in 1997. Reverting to Samuel Goldwyn would be reverting to MGM.

If MGM's rights to the film have expired, they probably reverted to Canadian production/distribution companies, SimCom and Norstar Releasing, formerly owned by producer, Peter Simpson. The Norstar Releasing assets, I believe, are currently owned by Entertainment One via their acquisition of Alliance Films.

Child's Play was the last film to have a limited edition, right? Just making sure amid all these announcements

Thanks in advance.

What are the possibilities of Scream doing CE's for the first two Evil Dead films? They'd be gorgeous next to Army of Darkness

None at all. The second is with Lionsgate. And the first is with Starz/Anchor Bay, now a subsidiary of Lionsgate. And LG doesn't license.

Well if Starz / Anchor Bay can license out Halloween to Scream, surely they could do so for the first Evil Dead?

Wasn't a license. Was a partnership. And that was before LG's purchase of AB.

Notice this today: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=634...0&a=1&go=0&l=1

Another botched encode IMHO.

I assume you're referring to the NSM records edition and not Shout Factory's correct?

Based on the shot he linked to, I'm guessing he meant the Shout. Look at the grain in the sky.

The Scream Factory Blu-ray of Frogs looks beautiful in motion.

Frogs is one of the best movies in the Scream Factory catalogue, and it's one of my favorite transfers of theirs as well. I've loved this movie since childhood, and I'm glad that Scream gave it a treatment befitting of the masterpiece that it is. There's some print damage, yes, but the detail and colors look fantastic.

I've looked through some of the other above caps comparisons, and, aside from the sky background, the differences are negligible at best.

"Botched" is a tad unfair. Looks like they've played around with the quantization a bit, if my David M crib sheet is correct. It's crazy how you can have 8 Mb/s in average bitrate on another encode and still manage to make it less grainy but there's always been something of a "diminishing returns" aspect with how much Shout (and indeed others like Criterion) fine tune their encodes.

Let's just be thankful it's not aliased up the wazoo or has been encoded at the wrong video levels....

Well, I'd definitely choose the AT disc if I was going to own this one.

It's not just the sky. The colors and fine detail are also noticeably better on the AT disc.

I'd say "botched" is a pretty strong word for some relatively minor differences.

I don't see the difference as minor.

This is minor: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...4&l=1&i=1&go=1

This is not: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x=...8&l=1&i=0&go=1

My whole point is that Shout has released at least half a dozen titles that I can confirm where a superior transfer exists internationally due to poor encoding.

By the way is C.H.O.P.S. still open in Bangor? Best pancakes I ever had.

Haha! I don't think it is as I haven't heard of it... Dysart's Truck Stop is the place to go around here for pancakes these days. They're bigger than my head!
