It's not a special edition with extras, but Happy Birthday To Me got a Blu-ray release. Since it's from Sony, I wouldn't expect anything more than this release.

This is all contingent on when Scream Factory talks about a particular title. There have been multiple examples of titles that Scream Factory claimed they weren't selling and were more or less flops only to one year later have them claim that they did really well and are amongst the better sellers. Scream Factory have been notorious for only looking at pre-sale numbers or numbers during the first week/month a title is on the market in the past and making their comments based on that. These same titles when given a better time frame often go on to sell reasonably well and become profitable.

There are a few titles that really don't need to continue being release, yet here they are. If the Carries, Things, and Child's Plays turn out to be real cash cows, they may lose incentive to go after more difficult and obscure titles (like Hellhole). Hard to say.

I can believe that, though it seems counterproductive to moan about poor numbers early on with obscure titles and use that to justify seeking out films that are readily available. If these sorts of high pro-file re-releases are going to be their main objective from here on out, it'll be pretty clear in the next year or so.

I can't imagine many people would care about Jaws 3 and 4. You can find nearly every facet of their productions with a google search.

They all need restoration or newer transfers, but nobody is going to pony up the money for it.

Let's be fair though, most people only buy movies they really love and want to watch over and over and for many the more obscure B-movie titles don't meet that criteria. It also depends on genre, I tend to buy almost any sci-fi movie or 80's action movie but I only want genuinely good horror movies and get mad at myself when I mess that up.

I might get Child's Play 2 and 3, because they were big 80's movies of my childhood, but something like Scarecrows or Up From the Depths? Nah.

If Jaws 2-4 are coming, surely it won't be for a long while yet, like a year at least. Ditto The Burbs and American Werewolf. Universal are surely aware that any announcements now would harm sales of a fairly recent release. Likewise, Scream are probably aware that people won't want to double dip so soon after buying the Universal releases. Also, it would make sense to save such heavy hitters for September and October, just as The Thing, Carrie, Child's Play and Exorcist III were this year.

Now titles like Firestarter and Dracula (79) are a different story, since they've been out a good while now. Child's Play 2 and 3 also seem like strong candidates at this point. That said, I'd prefer to see announcements for titles like Alligator, Arnold and The Reincarnation of Peter Proud.

EDIT: Poltergeist 3 got announced only a mere year after barebone release.

That's completely understandable as I'm the same way except that for me I'll buy almost any 80s slasher movie no matter how terrible but I only want genuinely good sci-fi or action movies

Much longer than a few months. Also 2 was out for a long time, it was only 3 that came in May 2015, well over a year ago and almost two years before the Shout comes out.

Poltergeist III was released in May 2015 by MGM (II much earlier), then announced by Scream in July 2016, and will be released in January 2017. So more than a 12-month window between initial release and announcement, and in all more than 18 months between the two releases. Anything Scream announce later this month would likely be released in the first half of next year, so I'd be very surprised to see those Universal titles announced so soon. And that's of course if Universal are even willing to licence out the Jaws films.

P2 was out even earlier. P3 is the one that came out last and it was May 2015, almost two years before the Scream release. So if Jaws comes it will likely be a year or two after the Universal releases.

I think the shortest window between studio and Scream releases might be People Under the Stairs, which was less than a year. So it's not unknown, but I don't know if they'd want to make a habit of it. A lot of people will have bought the recent Jaws releases.

Also the Jaws sequels, like the Poltergeist sequels, are movies I would not pay $20 a piece for, new transfers or not. I barely want to own them at all.

In all fairness, it would seem you really aren't the main audience that Scream or independent labels that peddle horror films are catering to. They'll snag a Child's Play sale out of you, but you're not going to be coming back for a Willard or a Slumber Party Massacre III (thanks for the sale, though, because it helps us get that other stuff ).

Scream has always released higher profile titles, just as they have obscure titles. Both have obviously sold well for them in the past, it's the sudden desire from many people to clamor for rerelease after rerelease that's troubling. A healthy mix of both, like they've done for a while, is the best thing.

Poltergeist III deserves more attention.

Sure it's kinda cheap only have Tangina and Carol Anne returning. However for a mainstream 80s horror movie it was radically different than anything else, barring Italy or Japan.

MGM ruined the ending and the director has personal demons.

I just hope the original footage still exist in reasonable shape unlike The Thing, TCM2 and Exorcist III.

Yeah sure. I buy a surprising amount of shitty 80's horror stuff for someone who doesn't collect it, but yeah in general the Scream stuff I own are the bigger releases. As you say though, my point is don't disparage that, be happy I am supporting them so they can release the more niche stuff that you guys want. Also I buy a lot of their niche stuff in the sci-fi/fantasy/action categories, like Deathstalker, so I benefit too.

It just seems like a lot of people blame us for not buying Scarecrows when really the reason Scarecrows sells like crap should be obvious, and we're helping the label other ways.

I've heard there's quite a consistent issue when characters say the letter S in their dialog it sounds really bad like their talking right up to a microphone. The same issue is on their Ghoulies 2 blu ray also. I rented it on amazon instant video and noticed the exact same thing but I just thought it was the instant video version until I heard the same complaints about the blu ray too so amazon must've used Shouts! version.
