It seems like Paramount will just release their catalog themselves next year.

Wish shout factory would do something about getting the complete version of " Jesus of Nazareth " released and not be content with the cut version released earlier this year.

Which could at least mean they might be open to licencing on certain titles. Fingers crossed. It would be amazing if Scream's Halloween announcements involved Paramount stuff.

Someone asked Scream on Facebook if any announcements were imminent. They responded:

Is it too much to ask for:

Dragonslayer
The Ghost and the Darkness (although I heard there's a new German disc coming)
Silver Bullet
Prophecy

I'd be happy with just those (and remastered Trek movies).

You're getting ahead of yourself. I wouldn't expect any more than two. Scream Factory has been very quiet for a while now and I don't see that changing any time soon. I wouldn't be surprised if we get 1 re-release announcement (Last House on the Left or Killer Klowns seem probable) 1 80's/early 90's new addition to the line, and if they announce more than that, possibly a handful of IFC titles that are direct to video. In theory a Child's Play 2/3 announcement could happen as well, but I feel like that will be saved for a little while.

That's the second time in about a week I've heard Dragonslayer mentioned. The other time was in the Kino thread.
I've said it before and I will say it again: I can't help but think the whole Sword & Sorcery genre from the late 70s and all through the 80s is a largely untapped market. Just a small sample size but I believe the Deathstalker I/II release was a good seller under the Shout Select line. Maybe we can get a Sword Factory line for some of he great 80s cheese Sword & Sorcery titles out there? I think there would be a lot of Scream/horror fans that would delve into these potential releases. While they aren't horror, many films have some horror elements to them and certainly no shortage of slashing!
Maybe tracking down rights and/or existing film elements might prove to be too costly, but I'm always remaining hopeful.

I think in most peoples' minds 'some' is more than 2 - if it were only 2 I assume they would have said 'a couple' (but who knows). Last year they announced quite a few titles over 2 days (Halloween fell on a Saturday last year so most were done the day before) - Murders at the Rue Morgue/The Dunwich Horror, Species II, Species 3/4, Manhunter, and TCM 2. Something similar (2-3 'lesser' titles and 1-2 heavy hitters) would be appreciated.

I really can't see them announcing IFC titles on Halloween - those titles are never usually hyped like retro ones are (they're never among the SDCC announcements, for example). Scream have been quiet for a while because they announced 13 titles at SDCC which finished their line-up through November to at least January, so they didn't need to announce anything. But now they only have two unannounced titles left (Willard and Ben) and the pre-orders for February are imminent, so they'll have to start revealing stuff again.

I hope you're correct, but I can't help but feel like the Vestron line has sucked a lot of the wind out of their sails and as a result they've pulled back a bit on the hype machine as no matter how big the film, a re-release just doesn't get the same amount of Buzz (around here at least) as a new addition to the Blu Ray format.

Honestly if they really want to make a splash worthy announcement, they should announce that MSRP on all collectors editions going forward will be $29.99 and all standard releases will be $24.99. (After the standard 30% discount that would equal $20.99 Collectors Editions and $17.99 regular releases).

Or Tales from the Hood.

Please announce Tales from the Hood.

I asked about Tales from the Hood, of which I was told is an HBO title and is with Warner not Universal. That might be the hold up on top of whatever else is keeping it from getting a bluray release

That being said I think the announcements are going to be from the poll they took with their MGM titles. Of course there will be a surprise or too, Id like to think that. Paramount deals are not cut and dry like MGM and Fox.. not saying those are. It just takes one Paramount title to know a label has struck a deal with them though

I'm surprised they haven't released Tales from the Hood. It's with Universal and they have an HD master available for cable & VOD, although it's definitely no great shakes.

Anything would be an improvement on the non-anamorphic DVD that's been out of print for a long time. It's obviously better than nothing, but even the most basic HD scan would yield significant increases in visual quality. Outside of the HBO/Warner/Universal issue it's long been believed that perhaps music rights have held this one up, but who knows.

Does a Collector's Edition of the 1979 version of Dracula seem likely? And is it possible to get the original colour version?

A while back they said they would only do it if they could offer the original colour timing, so I guess if they ever do announce it we'll know they're including that (I imagine they'd offer both).
