FYI - Lots of Scream Factory releases on Target for 20% off with free shipping :-)

I finally picked up Lady in White. Can't wait to watch it for the first time in 20+ years.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Finally picked up Pumpkinhead from Amazon for 15.99. I hope I get lucky and it comes with a slip but it's a long shot.

Watched Black Christmas last night, with the 5.1 track, and was really happy with it. Love that flick!

I've heard some complaints that the 5.1 contains jarring, new effects, but none stood out to me. I'm as happy as any that Shout! is sending out replacements for the clearly flawed original mono, but, honestly, the 5.1 might be my go-to from now on. Well done!

I had no idea they announced Tales From The Hood as a collector's edition, that's great news!! I watched this movie a hundred times as a kid and still love it to this day. Easily in my top 10 most wanted upgrades. Your post about how they announced it a collector's edition made my day

I am experiencing a picture freezing issue on two separate copies of Scream Factory's MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE/THE DUNWICH HORROR Blu-ray. I tried it on an Icom BD780, an iVid BD780 and a Sony player. On MURDERS, the picture totally locks up on the 1:19:49 mark or the 1:23:10 mark, and I have to unplug and re-start and it does the same thing if I try and play the movie again. If anyone has this disc, could you please test it out and report if you have the problem (and what kind of player you have). The best thing to do is play it at the start and see if it freezes when it gets past the 1:19:49 mark; if you just scan to that point in time on the disc, it probably won't lock up. Maybe this is some kind of layer change problem? I contacted Shout! Factory but they are on vacation until next week. Thanks folks.

I have been super busy the past two months, so been out of "the know" for the past two months with Shout Factory.

I read that Shout is sending out replacement discs for Black Christmas and Child's Play. Can Shout enthusiasts confirm this before I shoot them an email? Also, are there any other films they are sending out replacement discs for--I was thinking there was another, somewhat, recent release that had some issues (Dead Ringers, maybe?)? Any info is appreciated.

Last, since 2016 is coming to a close, all I can say is that 2016 was a really great year for Scream Factory releases--the second half of the year especially. We got some of the staple films in the horror genre that are "must owns" for horror fans, which include: The Return of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Thing, Carrie, Child's Play, Black Christmas, etc. This cheers is for you Shout Factory for giving us some great releases this past year.

Child's Play - Yes
Black Christmas - Yes
Dead Ringers - Not to my knowledge.

Instructions to receive this replacement disc are as follows:

Send an email to our customer service department @ info@shoutfactory.com
Please include “BLACK CHRISTMAS REPLACEMENT PROGRAM” in the subject line.
Please provide your first and last name and the mailing address in which you would like the disc sent to. No other copy is needed.
Must provide proof of purchase (photo of receipt or online order will do) in the body of the email.
You will not receive a shipment confirmation. Also, please note that due to the high volume of inquires we will not be able to respond to each email personally.
Replacement discs are expected to ship in January 2017 and as soon as we receive them. No tracking numbers will be assigned.

We’d like to also take this time to address the fans that brought this to our attention and explain more in detail as to why our mono audio track for Black Christmas sounded so rough. Unfortunately, we were not able to find a mag track, only an optical track, which is not an ideal source for this kind of work. However, based on earlier customer feedback who hoped for lossless mono audio, we decided to include the mono audio track with minimal processing and compression. The was a decision made with the best of intentions and the hope of providing the most authentic film presentation, but the hissy sibilance of the optical track proved to be too extreme and took away from the viewing experience. We’re sorry for the frustration it may have caused. We have explored all options to correct the problem that fit within our resources and have concluded that the best solution was to use the mono audio track originally released on the Critical Mass DVD.

Much thanks for your patience and continued support. And we look forward to bringing you more great retro films in 2017,

The Scream Factory Team

There's nothing for them to really correct with Dead Ringers. Unless you want them to do the entire remaster over, which they would never do. The deficiencies of the remaster are surely why they included the older master as well (and on disc one, with the better bitrate).

I thought I had read that there was an issue with the stereo channels being reversed, ala Child's Play. I assume that was what q-BUZZ-p was referring to.

Yeah the 2.0 channels are reversed like the Child's Play release. The review for it on this site confirmed it. Not sure if there is a replacement program for it yet though.

I couldn't find it earlier but just now located it again... here's a very helpful thread for replacement discs.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but are retailer's now selling the corrected versions of Black Christmas? I ask because I might wait to order. Just to Avoid the hassle. Although I had to do this for AoD, and I think it was Shivers with no problem.
Shoot, I realized I had Child's Play, Got day one, so I'll have to do this again for that one, no biggie I guess.

It really isn't. I sent one e-mail to Shout with a copy of the receipt attached to it and my home address and got a confirmation only minutes later. Absolutely painless experience.

I am nervous for 2017 releases. Scream has covered so much ground, and 2016 had some seriously fantastic releases. The Jeepers Creepers films are big favorites of mine, and Black Christmas is in my Top 10 slasher films. Blind buys like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Death Becomes Her were both great additions, and rediscovering Child's Play and Carrie was brilliant as well.

I'm hoping in the new year they manage to crack into a new vault of films, ideally from an all new studio. Paramount would be a dream come true if they ended up being able to do April Fool's Day/My Bloody Valentine and the sicko in me would pay top dollar for individual releases of the Friday films.

Otherwise they can move into more recent films, in my fantasy they'll put out Urban Legend 1 & 2, Valentine, House on Haunted Hill, Cabin Fever (non-remake), House of Wax, Cry Wolf, Touristas, The Ruins, or even beefed up versions of the Scream films/I Know What You Did Last Summer 1 & 2.

Either way I'm excited, while nervous they won't be able to keep up their high quality releases.
