If that were to come into fruition, I suspect both films would certainly be the same MGM HD masters. I don't see them dumping money into new 2k scans for these being they probably won't sell well anyway (look what happened with the MTV Teen Wolf drama reboot).

SF wouldn't bother with the same transfers. The first film needs a new scan.

The TV show's failure won't have any impact on sales of the original.

However, if they do see fit to give it a new transfer with both 1.85 and 4:3 ratios, the Transworld logo reinstated, and the full TV broadcast cut (Its not just dubbed over scenes, there's some new scenes in it as well IIRC), then we'd happily pay $25 or 30.
I'm sure SF realizes that they'd need to do a new scan and throw in some new extras for KK.

I agree, 1st film getting a new 2k scan with the vintage Atlantic Releasing card restored would certainly be nice. But since those films are comedies for the most part (which don't do well on Blu anyway) and being "smaller" potatoes than say the Poltergeist sequels (which would sell more than enough based on their popularity to offset the cost of their new scans), it probably wouldn't make finical sense for Shout! to dump money in new scans for a Teen Wolf I/II double bill that wouldn't sell well anyway.

Robocop 2 is getting a new scan even though its not as good as the 1st entry, but 3 is using the existing transfer since it giving it a new scan wouldn't be worth the cost, considering its CE would probably be the worst selling of the bunch given the films reputation.

Since MGM is extremely desperate at this point, I'd rather see Shout! use their resources to tackle a CE of Spaceballs with a new 2/4k transfer sporting the original MGM logo (the one with "An MGM/UA Communications Company" byline), the original stereo mix in lossless form, and loaded extras old and new.

Tell me about it. I think the Scream line is not going to last much longer and that's why they started the new Shout Select line. They really need to get in with Sony and Paramount who still have lots of horror to release.

I'm feeling that vibe to. The really good stuff has already come out and it's drying up out there. Nothing lasts forever I'm really happy we got spoiled with 5 years so far of awesome releases. They had their road bumps along the way but overall it's been great,

There's still plenty of unreleased gems out there and oop stuff aswell. For whatever reason they just can't or won't get those titles. Kind of makes me wonder if they're being cheap sometimes because they won't cough up the dough to get certain releases. People keep saying certain labels or people won't license their titles out but everything has a price.

Well, they paid the price to get Willard and Ben! And hopefully THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD, ARNOLD and TERROR IN THE WAX MUSEUM will follow.

I don't want to come off as negative or demanding, that wasn't my attention, but there are tons of unreleased movies that need to be rediscovered by people.

Unfortunately, most of those aren't owned by MGM or Universal. I'm so glad Lionsgate is releasing some nice gems, and I wish people wouldn't complain about the prices. If the line fails, we will never see gems like Superstition, which is one of my favorite obscure movies. I saw a wonderful HD print on Cinemax a few years ago. So it is ready to go if Lionsgate has the rights.

I'm glad about Willard and Ben even though I've never seen them I will be getting them. I love the remake so I'm sure I'll love the originals. But like I said, there's tons of stuff out there that needs to be released. Keep digging in those pockets Scream Factory. At this point they need to do whatever it takes to pry those titles out of Paramount, Warner, ...ect's hands.

The day Warner and Lionsgate get into serious finical issues from overspending and one box office bomb after another, would be the day they have to licence out content just to save their butts from bankruptcy.

That happened to MGM, at least 5 times, and nowadays they don't have the finances to put anything out themselves aside from their top tier movies like 007 and their recent stuff. That's why they go to so many companies these days to put out their content, and in some recent cases, have them perform new scans because MGM's cannot alot their funds to do new master of anything anything other than recent projects and their top tier classics, which is a sign of how much worse their recent financial situations have gotten.

Isn't that kind of why Lionsgate is doing the Vestron line? They have had one box office flop after another, and are now delving into their vast catalogue to make some profit.

I wonder which of the three least profitable studios will be sold...Lionsgate, Sony or Paramount. There is talk Sony is selling off their film division but I guess they said they aren't selling. These studios can't continue on forever with the losses they are sustaining.

But that doesn't mean they'll have it planned for later once the rights to the alt cuts clear up.

History shows that means nothing. It's horror, it's from MGM... there's a strong chance of it happening.

No matter what Scream announces there are people in here saying "man seems like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel now." People were in here saying that when they announced Return of the Living Dead and The Thing. They have stuff like Firestarter and Robocop 2 coming soon, which excites me a ton, but for some those are pointless releases.

It really just depends on taste. I don't see SF drying up soon. If anything labels are taking over more and more. They just might not releasing what YOU want this season. But that's okay.

Scream isnt going anywhere. As titles switch rights owners or if a studio loses rights to titles and becomes available we know Cliff / Cmac is on top of it . They will continue to seek or negotiate those hard to get titles. Im sure at some point Beyond the Time Barrier and The Time Travelers will happen since all the other titles from the DVD sets have gotten blu-ray releases. Warners policy hasnt changed yet and Paramount's catalog has a huge price-tag. They have their deals with MGM and Universal. If they would consider the older horrors from Universal that could give them some more titles to release. We need more Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi on blu ray

I think if Scream don't get another major studio deal (like Paramount) they'll struggle to carry the line beyond 2018, at least in its current form (averaging about 4-5 retro titles a month). I'd like to see more independent deals if possible, but once the well of high-profile CE's is exhausted I don't see Scream continuing the line largely with relatively obscure MGM catalogue titles (though I'd be happy with that scenario, as I'm sure others would be!).

The well will never be dry IMO. In fact, I believe it'll be the independent labels that will be carrying on the physical media legacy from this point forward. The major studios are either in financial trouble or are moving away from physical media releases themselves so that will usher in the era of the indy label taking over (it's happened already). Having said that, I think it's time Shout conducted another poll - this time for Universal titles. What better way to gauge interest in potential titles? If we've gotten titles like The Thing I'd say pretty much anything is possible. I'd kill for the Extended cut of Waterworld or Collector's Editions of Iceman and Stick.
