Just to be clear I'm not saying Shout might encounter difficulties, just the Scream line specifically. I also don't think it will come to a sudden halt in the near future, more that the focus might have to change if it is to continue past 2018 (less retro titles, more modern ones).

The Scream poll last year was for Blu-ray upgrades of MGM titles they already had in their catalogue, so it was easy to do in that sense (and ultimately somewhat curious, since they're now releasing every title on the list with the exception of Arena, but only because of lack of elements). I don't recall them conducting an official poll to gauge interest in Universal or MGM titles they should acquire, as such a thing might well end in disappointment if they then couldn't get the more popular titles. That said, I think they've get a pretty firm idea of what people want (you knew they'd go after Streets of Fire for example, it just seemed very much like a Shout title), and I'd certainly hope Stick is among their Universal acquisitions (along with Trespass and a number of others).

I'd love to see them do a Dune and Waterworld CE's with both versions of the movies.

I guess it's time for them to get rights to Child's Play 2-5 and Jaws 2-4 and re-release them as collector editions.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I just came back from my local Cinema 1 and they have quite a few Scream titles on sale. If you have a store in your area, it might be worth checking out. From what I saw, all of the Collector's editions came with slip covers.

I suspect they already have Child's Play 2 and 3 at least of that series. If they can get hold of the Jaws sequels, I suspect they'll want to wait until later in the year at least, to ensure a sufficient distance between their release and the earlier Universal releases (perhaps also true for The Burbs).

With the new Child's Play film releasing later this year I wonder if there's any possibility that Scream Factory will distribute. If so, then it seems probable that a box set of some kind could be in the works. Perhaps they can't package part 1 with the other films, but that's why it was released solo. a 2-7 set could can be issued to round things out... possible even leaving a space for the original film. I don't know what they'd do with Bride - Curse, but I'm sure they'd come up with something. Just a thought.

It's possible. MGM of course previously allowed Child's Play to be bundled with the rest in a boxset, so maybe they'll allow Scream the same privilege. They have history with these kinds of complex arrangements of course, given their work on the Halloween collection.

Failing that, we might well see CE's for most of the titles in the series, but I expect they'll want to space them out a little, even with a new film coming out later this year.

IMO, it wouldn't make sense for Universal to produce a new film, especially one that is going direct-to-video/VOD, only to have a 3rd party reap the benefits from the initial home video distribution.

what are the odds Shout announces In the Mouth of Madness? I feel like this movie should have been part of their Scream line for years now.

None. That's a Warner Bros film and isn't going anywhere anytime soon

No, I think you're referring to some Morgan Creek titles like Exorcist III and The Crush, which were distributed by Warner Brothers but are owned by Morgan Creek and they can choose what distributor they want to work with. Nightbreed, which is owned by WB, was a special case because Clive Barker was involved with the release of the Director's Cut.

The big 15 disc Halloween set is. Some discs Shout sold only on their site like Deathstalker are. I don't think anything else from the Scream line is, off the top of my head.

Isn't Nightbreed also with Morgan Creek?

The Collector's Edition of Lifeforce is OOP. There is a regular version still available that drops the original making-of featurette.

He's talking about The Lawnmower Man, which was distributed by New Line, but is kind of a special circumstance since I believe New Line didn't actually make it so they didn't have full rights to it.

Don't forget they dropped the slipcover too ! Totally worth paying an extra hundred on the second hand market for that invaluable piece of cardboard.
