Miffed to find out that Scream Factory got their dirty meat hooks on my beloved Lorelei

Not only are they going to ruin 5 great Naschy's, now they are going to also ruin one of Ossorios greatest flicks.

Night of the Sorcerers I could give a flying F about.

The masters for that BCI line from 10 years ago are from 1997!! Sream Factory are using 20 year old masters!

I have the original BCI disc as well as the German Blu Ray of Lorelei, those will have to do until a studio that actually gives a sh.it gets a go at these.

Does anyone know if THE PREY (1984) is getting a release? If not does anyone know why it's still MIA? It was never even on DVD.

The Prey may have rights issues, or it's just one of those nobody ever cared enough to release. Some titles skipped DVD and made it to blu I believe, the two that come to mind are Video Dead and Terrorvision, I think...I can tell you in case you are unaware, the Thorn Emi US VHS release was badly cut. The European/international version is like 15+ minutes longer and provides a lot more backstory, though I remember thinking it was still a mostly boring movie...80s slashers shouldn't be, like 2 hours long?

I sent SF a request/idea list awhile back including asking for the Critters series. Goddamn Ghoulies and the Troll movies have made it to blu, even HOBGOBLINS which was roasted on MST3K, and still no Critters blu rays. What is the deal?

I've been crying for a Blu-ray release of The Prey (1984) since I first acquired a Blu-ray player five years ago.

It's a great little horror film, and a decent high definition release could really bring the masses around to rediscovering how special of a film it is.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I'd pass on a rerelease of Drag Me to Hell, but guaranteed sellers like that are bankrolling titles like Windows. Something has to heat the water for the bath they're gonna take with shit like Contamination .7, after all.
Plus they have released a lot of gems from earlier years like Blood and Lace, Deadly Eyes (my personal favorite discovered from them), Death Valley, The Island, Final Terror (another favorite I discovered), Ghost Town, Prison, Terrorvision, Video Dead, Sonny Boy, The Town that Dreaded Sundown, Without Warning among others.

You are completely missing the main point here.
Scream is not going to ruin anything. They are going to give us the best possible versions of these films we have yet to see.

Your rant completely overlooks the fact that the licencor will not allow new scans made.
They won't let Subkultur do it, and a deal with Arrow fell through because they wanted to update and do new scans.

And Victory will not invest in the process themselves.

Bottom line is we get these older scans cleaned up for new Blu's,
or we get absolutely nothing from the Victory catalog of Spanish horror.

BCI DVD's are SD
BCI blu's were 1080i
German Blu is a mess, no day for night tinting, possibly an upscale.

Your comment about waiting for a studio who gives a crap is completely off base.
Scream is going to extra lengths to add the English track to HUMAN BEASTS ( not on the DVD ) and restore some material to SORCERERS.

While the lack of a fresh scan is beyond unfortunate, I am incredibly grateful Scream has decided to release these films using what is available.

Why such a pahty poopah, Christophah Mahgen? Now I love Code Red as much as the next guy and Bill is a very special person to us all. However there are other labels out there and I feel we're very fortunate to have all of them meeting the demand for this product. The window of time for physical media is closing...

Do you have a source for this info regarding the masters for all of these Naschy and de Ossorio films? It's my limited understanding that Victory is the company leasing the rights for many if not all of these titles. That being the case, wouldn't any company that handles them be "stuck" with these masters? Do you know if Bill is creating new masters for the various Naschy titles he's putting out? Please enlighten me, Mahgen. Personally I'm buying all of them either way as I'm sure they'll be an improvement over the dvd's at least.

Trouble is, I think a number of those Corman films would require new HD masters. I wouldn't be surprised if they got to them eventually but then I don't know how much longer their licencing window has to run.

all of the reports indicate that Victory is not allowing for restorations - they are licensing masters, not film prints, from what i understand - hence the 1:33:1 AR on some of the films.

You've got me wrong Mr.Hughes. I don't believe in blind partisanship, be it for fast food chains, coffee, religion, politics or dvd labels. Code Red's product while being generally very good is not infallible, they effed Zeder up which is why when it was first announced I had hoped that a studio like Arrow had gotten the rights to it.

Naschy flicks have a special place in my heart, Ossorio films as well especially Lorelei. These masters that Scream Factory are slapping onto BD's are TWENTY YEARS OLD, you can only "clean up" ancient masters so much. Also babybreese says these will be "the best version possible"

Scream Factory can't even give us the best version possible with brand new masters.

The fact that Arrow walked away from the deal just magnifies the difference in quality between the two labels.

Scream is just trying to make a buck as easily as possible, better to walk away then put junk on a disc as Scream is doing here.

My copy of DEMENTED arrived today and it's honestly the most exciting Shout Factory title I've bought since last year's The Thing - and I've never even seen the film! The film sounds right up my alley and it's exactly the kind of release that gets my juices flowing. Major studio stuff with nice slipcovers are fun but they're a dime a dozen when compared to obscure titles like Demented, particularly if they haven't received a home video release in a long time. I know major Hollywood titles outsell these cult oddities by a wide margin and I'm disappointed in that but if we get some of these movies once in a while and they don't disappear completely I'll be satisfied with that.

There's nothing like getting a great obscure gem on blu ray vs. a popular Hollywood new release. Especially one that you have been really looking forward to and hoping for to get a release for a long time

True, but no one else can either, until Victory changes their business model.
They did come down on their pricing recently in the last year or two, which I'll guess is why the deal Scream worked out was even considered financially feasible.

I think the masters are more like 10 years old, they were relatively new when the BCI DVD's were done. But I get it...by nature I am a glass half empty guy.
But with these films, in 2017, this is as good as it can be, and I'd rather these films are available @ 1080p.

For those who do not have all the older releases this is an amazing flood of titles.
Converts will be made, lots of people who will be new to these films will get to see them for the first time. ( some will hate them...lol )
Not quite as amazing if you own all the OOP DVD's? Well, maybe, maybe not? YMMV.

Scale is tipped in the positive for me when all is considered.
Maybe someday Victory will sell the package off, or change their minds.
Til then I look forward to these releases, which will have stellar new photo galleries freshly selected from the Thorsten Benzel collection
( Muchas Gracias Seņor Lobo: Paul Naschy ), clothed takes & trailers we got.
There may also be another surprise or two.

I also love SORCERERS, and the Ossorio double bill is just perfect pairing.
Maybe we'll get MALENKA & DEMON WITCH CHILD down the line if these move OK? Or other Victory horror holdings?

I couldn't agree more. These are the sort releases we need more of, as lately to many companies are either releasing major studio titles or just re-releasing stuff that's already had a Blu ray release with another company.
