Pumpkinhead II intrigued me in part because of the Linnea Quigley factor, even if her role is small.
I've accrued quite a bit of Linnea Quigley's 1980s movies over the past couple of years. The funny thing is that, at first, it was purely accidental. Somebody mentioned Quigley on the forum, I took a look, and thought to myself, "Whoa...I didn't realize that I have so many of her movies." She looks so different in every flick that it's tough to tell sometimes. I bought a bunch of her Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray movies on purpose a couple weeks back, though. Linnea Quigley is a force of nature. |

I'm guessing the answer is probably no, but does anyone know if movies on Shout's MST series can be viewed and heard without all the comments or any other video distractions just like a normal movie? Would love to see THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS in it's normal state.

Some of the earliest Rhino MST3K releases had double-sided discs that included the original movies, but I don't believe any of the Shout releases ever have.

When I watched the movie again, after purchasing the Blu Ray this year, I found it to be a fun watch, with some solid chase sequences. Even the nature of the killer wasn't as big of an issue for me. [Show spoiler]

DEMENTED 1980
IMG_8352.jpg Ok I just want to be upfront about my purchase of this movie. I seem to buy a lot of slasher films and figured this was a third cousin once removed from a slasher but still with some tropes. I rather like going blind into this genre esp movies I've never seen from this period but nothing prepared me for this one. I also don't want to build this one up too much it is very dialogue Heavy and for some may make them snooze however I haven't seen a movie with this kind of WTFs per minute in a while. not necessarily action in nature but 98% dialogue related. I couldn't stop laughing! This movie is not bad NEVER boring IMO and I have to give it to the actresses in this one they played it to the hilt and poor Harry Reems just adds to it. I haven't checked the credits but I would guess it had to have been written by a male (no offense) because the subject matter of the premise to this film and it really isn't a spoiler but it's rape. The way the topic is handled is ludicrous. That topic becomes the catalyst and eventually an excuse for everything from our lead actress. There is so much WTF dialogue I can't recall it all. (Just means so much more to offer for repeat viewings) It's filled with absurdity, my favorite is this group of overtly gay acting guys in the neighborhood who have predatory tendeices to ladies but one is even sporting a Xanadu tee shirt! The lead female character and I say character because I don't want to disrespect the actresss because I love her for every nuance of her performance. (Notice the shakiness of her hand after being frightened at the door!) such subtle shades of acting. Back to the character she is so whiney...... anyhow watching this movie is an experience that should never be missed. The transfer looks great. I couldn't expect it to look any better. Really shows off some of the fun cheapness of a few sets. I can't recommend this one enough. I doubt if it is selling very well for Shout but no regrets on this one I will be showing this at midnite gatherings for years to come. (Sorry for any typos it's 4:10am I don't feel like spell / grammar check. ![]() Last edited by PowellPressburger; 04-30-2017 at 09:18 AM. |

I'm watching Ben right now and... it looks pretty rough. Especially in any night and/or dark indoor scenes. I can barely tell what's going on some of the time and the framing seems a bit odd to me. There's a lot of headroom in many of the shots and some close ups are super tight. However, the PQ of course is no fault of Shout! Factory and it could look a heck of a lot worse. I'm just glad that, even with a source as poor as this one, at least we got a release of this film and at least it's in HD.
I just fully believe this should have been a double feature. Especially given the fact they're aware this is inherently a low-quality release, going as far as placing a disclaimer at the start of the movie. If it had been stacked with special features, I could understand the decision to go standalone. But, as it is, it's frankly a transparent way to milk as much money as they can out of these. I think we'll see less and less double features coming from Shout/Scream in the future, which is too bad. First Robocop 2 and 3, now Willard and Ben. I understand it may be necessary to drive up profits to fund other releases but it's a hard pill to swallow as a consumer since they've set a precedent in the past for double features of movies of this caliber. |

Not saying their sales should be $5 titles or anything like that. But like others have said. Their idea of a sale is from $23 regular priced titles to $19 plus shipping or whatever. They need to take notes from Arrow on how to have proper sales.

Shout's cash grabbing and price gouging is getting ridiculous.
I was shopping at Meijer this weekend, and found SF's I Bury the Living and The Screaming Skull BDs for the low, low price of $22.99 each. I've bought SF discs at Meijer before: Halloween II and III, Dolls, and The Babadook come to mind. They were all collectors editions, with nice slips and plenty of extras. And they were all $19.99 apiece, which I consider a fair price. But two old public domain (I think) cheapies, that are barebones, for more than collectors editions? Ridiculous. I like buying Shout titles at Meijer. I think it's cool that a regional chain with a diminished media section carries them. If these were either $9.99 apiece, or a double feature, I wouldn't have hesitated to put them in the cart. But these prices just make it super easy to say, "The DVDs are good enough." So, screw you, Shout Factory. (And yes, I checked Amazon, their ~$19.99 price point isn't much better.) |
