I ended up ordering all three of the SF John Carpenter Steelbooks from Amazon. Really wanted the lithographs but between the difference in cost, taxes and shipping I couldn't justify paying almost $50 extra for them.

Probably because they pressed 30,000 copies of the Carpenter titles combined. That's a f*ck ton of stock to sell.

Front page of this site has They Live limited Steelbook down to 16.77 already? Really? And yet older release of They Live holds at $20 on Amazon, and don't think I've ever seen it below 18/19...
WHY? Why can't the older release price drop, at least on Amazon, when isn't it literally the same exact disc in the newer release, but with premium packaging, and the new one's cheaper before it even releases.
I actually like that price but I don't really do steelbooks the way I have my shelves set...

I pre-ordered the Fargo and The Fog steelbooks. The SB's for They Live and Escape from New York do not look so good.

i love the cheap prices on these SB's.

You don't think The Fly '86 would benefit from a fresh 4K scan

seeing as how the original blu-ray of the Fly cost me around $7, i would absolutely upgrade if a new scan was done.

I'm sure it would but I was never really bothered by the current one either. Similar to Silence of the Lambs that a lot of people are clamoring for a 4K remaster for but I don't really have any issues with that transfer either. I'd love it if every film could have a 4K remaster but I'm just getting tired of rebuying films when so many others aren't out yet unless the current blu ray is in desperate need of a remaster.

I see a distinction between the early horror and the '80's horror, so I would lump "Scanners" more in with "Videodrome" and "The Fly" personally. ("The Dead Zone" doesn't really fit with either group.) But I can see lumping "Scanners" in with the earlier ones too, that is kind of the transition.

I remember liking "Rabid" most of the three, but at the same time, if MMB doesn't like "The Brood", maybe it's worth renting "Rabid" (and "Shivers") before blind-buying.

I don't see anything in the distribution / production history that would suggest otherwise.

This would probably include Nightflyers, too!

Fair enough

That was never a terrible transfer and it worked just fine for the DVD but I think it's definitely showing its age now. I've been itching to throw it on but I'm holding out for a reissue.

I'm not seeing where anyone specifically asked for a remaster or Scream Factory release of The Brood.

All I'm seeing is a general discussion about Cronenberg films stemming from the site's recent review of Rabid.

Potentially interesting news on Vista. Who did Scream licence The Decline of Western Civilization from? Is it possible Spheeris holds the rights?
