Not to my knowledge. Small Soldiers would be amazing but it could actually fit Scream Factory if they wanted to. Wherever it ends up I'd buy it.

Unless somethings changed, Warner Brothers owns it. So, it is doubtful that it'll get a Blu-ray, but, if it did, it most likely be Warner Archive.

I wonder what other Universal titles Scream will choose to 'upgrade'? Here's the list of the post-70s stuff (Dune and 12 Monkeys are borderline, but could fit if Shout can get them):
Duel Jaws 2 Dracula An American Werewolf in London Jaws 3-D Dune Jaws: The Revenge The 'Burbs Child's Play 2 Tremors Cape Fear Child's Play 3 12 Monkeys The Frighteners Bride of Chucky End of Days Red Dragon Seed of Chucky Dead Silence Drag Me to Hell I think certain titles are unlikely for various reasons - Duel, Cape Fear, 12 Monkeys (seems more like a Criterion release if possible). Maybe they'll surprise me. - They've said they would only do Dracula if they can include a version with the original colour timing, so that one is conditional on that. - The Jaws sequels were released only last year so it might be a while before we see them - that is, if Universal are willing to licence them out. Still, there's definitely room for improvement in the transfers and extra departments, so these could be very worthwhile releases if done right. - The Child's Play sequels are in a similar position, given that Universal are releasing another box set later in the year. Still, if Scream do have 2 and 3 at least, you'd think November would be a good time with the new film coming out later in the year. Again, there's potential for improvement for both the transfers and extras. - The Burbs was released only a year ago but I think this one is very likely at some point given that the transfer was lacking and the extras were non-existent. Could they draw from Arrow in this regard? - American Werewolf in London - while it would be hard to improve on last year's release if they can't get an unmanipulated version of the restoration, I really can't see them turning this one down if it becomes available, it would be a huge get for them. - Dune is an odd one but it is Lynch and has a cult following, and new scans for the theatrical and TV cuts would be an incentive. Also, I can't see Criterion being that interested in it. - Tremors I think is very likely, especially with the TV series on the way. A new transfer would be welcome, and they could probably add some extras. I'd be surprised if they saw merit in Tremors 2, but I guess it would depend on how well a hypothetical CE of the first did. - The Frighteners includes an exhaustive documentary and commentary, as well as both cuts, and looks very good, so really hard to see how they'd top that (plus would Jackson want to be involved?). - End of Days could use a new transfer and stronger extras, but I'd be surprised if any of the cast being willing to do an interview. Not sure if they'd bother with it. - Red Dragon would be interesting given that Scream have released Manhunter. The extras were pretty exhaustive on the Universal release. Might become a better prospect if Scream could get Hannibal from MGM maybe? - Dead Silence is definitely one I could see in the Scream line at some point, could include both cuts. - I know there were rumours about Drag Me to Hell. The Universal release included both cuts and I doubt they could improve on the transfer, but the extras were pretty paltry. I think they'd want more Raimi in the line so I could see this happening. In any case, I'm sure Scream will be after a few of these in order to keep the CE line going (unless they can get a Paramount deal). While I know they're not always welcomed, the strong sales of these will at least allow for gambles on more obscure titles in the standard line. Last edited by BarnDoor; 07-07-2017 at 03:02 PM. |
