Final Exam is probably the best of these three movies, but The Final Terror benefits from a great wilderness setting and New Year's Evil features some awesome music. |

Final Exam is by far my favorite of these three, but New Year's Evil is fun enough. I found The Final Terror very, very slow and do not expect a slasher.

Personally i think Final Exam is pretty inept & easily the worst of the three.

Yeah I picked up this disc last year and watched it on New Years Eve and remember being not very impressed. I plan to watch it again this week to see how a second viewing holds up, but after my initial viewing I wouldn't rate the film very highly.

Shout is having a site-wide sale that lasts until Wednesday night. Free shipping on orders of $50 or more, and 40% off titles for orders of $80 or more.
Got a $100 Visa gift card for Christmas, so I nabbed The Funhouse, The Howling, Psycho II, Pumpkinhead and Child's Play. |

Not too bad. Certainly a very good deal on The Funhouse. Many of these Scream Factory sales end up being questionable unless you can find a few decently priced titles. You picked up 5 winners though so good for you! I have a handful of Scream Factory titles I'd like to grab but between Jigsaw, Leatherface, Eaten Alive!, TCMIII, and many other upcoming releases I'm focusing on some other stuff for the moment. I'm sure I'll be picking up some stuff in January/February though.

Yeah, I'd been wanting these ones for awhile and they didn't make the cut when I ordered a bunch during this past summer's anniversary sale, but I was able to get some more right now. Still have several to go before I'm pretty much caught up on the Scream titles I want.

So I've decided to give New Years Evil a revisit tonight a few days ahead of schedule. I'll report back if my thoughts have changed at all from my earlier comments.
Edit: So second viewing is in the bag and I'd say that my second impression is ever so slightly better than my first, but not by much. The biggest problem I have with this film is it's pacing and insistence on the repetitive Band segments. When the film starts I find myself bobbing my head and thinking "alright, nice intro theme". However by the time I have to listen to it for the 5th time I find myself just wanting to hit fast forward. This coupled with the fact that so many of the musical interludes completely kill any tension that the film has going for it thanks to their poor timing and or insistence on over staying their welcome and the film just never really seems to get any real momentum. Around 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through things pick up and it appears that all is finally going in the right direction only to once again run into problems with unneeded musical numbers and pacing problems. The film is an entertaining enough time killer, and for the right price it's worth owning, but there are countless better slasher films out there in my opinion which is a shame since this shows some promise at times. I would have placed an order in the recent Shout Factory sale but since they don't offer free shipping to Canada I wouldn't be getting a deal at all.
Kino Lorber and Vinegar Syndrome both offer free shipping to Canada if you place an order for $100.00 or more but not so with Shout Factory. Last edited by moviezrule; 12-27-2017 at 09:01 PM. |

I just watched Terror Train the other night and am suddenly glad I never pulled the trigger on buying it. streamed it through Amazon video. Not sure what I expected but I was underwhelmed at best. One Scream release I can live without especially now that it's OOP and thereby generally more expensive.
Still adore the company and will generally blind buy releases at the right price. Like The Editor. The movie is hilarious and I knew NOTHING about it, picked it up at an FYE used with Slip just because it was scream. |
