Thank you. Looking back into postings from when it was released, think I skipped it due to it being nearly identical PQ-wise to the Image disc I already have. Neither is necessarily better or worse in that regard (Edit: aside from the macroblocking you mentioned which I probably didn't even know about back then), but I agree that Scream would be the better buy for first timers and/or people into extras.

A few posters in the main Assault on Precinct 13 thread complained about macroblocking on the Scream Factory disc, but, even when viewed under scrutiny on the caps-a-holic comparisons, it's not a vanilla vs. vanilla twist type of difference.

Both discs present excellent transfers that are faithful to the source.

I wish Carpenter had made more action movies. The few that he made really demonstrated his mettle in the genre.

Assault kicks so much ass. But if I HAD to make any nitpicks, it's that there wasn't more hand-to-hand combat.

And since it's blu ray debut, it has been available for $15 everywhere. Even with the slip it wasn't selling like a used, non slip is going for now.

And I think most believe this will be released soon by another label, so what's the hurry and pay $50? I think this just may be a part of all of us who buy and watch these kind of films. We're all willing to pay absorbent prices for things we like to see on our shelves. I just never thought I would see Terror Train as one of them. What's next, Prom Night!
When ever anything goes OOP its a mad scramble for people to buy them up and resale them at profit. Fox will probably do a cheap release sometime next year for walmart bins.

Understand there are flippers but why are buyers suddenly willing to pay $60 for this movie? It's like they think it's never going to be released again. Unless your collecting all the collectors editions with slipcover, I just don't get spending so much. Maybe it's a better movie than I think it is?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which is the new 2K scan. Generally whoever releases later will get the same or newer master.

I fine Screams Rabid blu is better then Arrows. Arrows has a green tint to it and the whites are blown out.

Screams Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 transfer is also better then Arrows. It's a new scan.

Fox might have, however it's unlikely Disney will. If that merger happens (and all signs are pointing to it happening) it's possible we won't ever see another physical release in the states. I'd encourage people that are still interested in the title to pick it up whenever they find a price they are comfortable with as it's unlikely it's going to see another cheaper release anytime soon (if ever) barring a release outside the US.

Yeah, Disney is gonna horde all the Fox catalog titles that can't be rebooted into quasi-superhero franchises. This is the end folks.

It’s gonna be a dark day for physical meadia when this happens and we all know it’s going too. I’m just holding out hope that they’ll still license out films.

So should we be worried about all Fox titles going OOP or just the ones with Scream?

That's the million dollar question at the moment. I'd wager that mainstream franchise films will be safe as there is likely a large back stock of these films that Disney would sell through so it's unlikely that most films will simply disappear overnight. However it's anyone's guess as to how licensing agreements are structured and whether or not anything licensed out would immediately be rendered out of print. Personally, I'd err on the side of caution and start planning to pick up any licensed fox titles sooner rather than later, but that's just me. We saw what happened when the WB agreement with Paramount ended and how quickly those films disappeared (only to again be reissued less than a year later in most cases).

Another question I have is in regards to the MGM catalog films. Is Fox still distributing those? If so, then the sale of Fox would likely have an impact on those titles as well placing many of them in out of print status for a period.

I have talked crap about the Shout Factory sales in the past... Just wanted to say, on Thanksgiving, this year's MST3k sale was not as discounted as last year's, so I didn't participate... but they also had a contest, enter to randomly win a free copy of the out of print Gamera set. I don't know how many winners there are, but I am one of them. So I now feel much better about the sales, especially the contest portion of the sales.

They won't go OOP, they'll just all become Disney movie club exclusives!

So I saw that Koch Films is releasing the 1987 film The Barbarians on bluray in March. Hopefully this means that with an HD master, Shout or Scream will give us a bluray upgrade for that one. The version out on dvd looks terrible.
