I find it amazing how I can't find a reasonable priced copy of Terror Train blu anywhere. And the swiftness of it happening totally perplexes me. This is a film that has always been available on home video. The vhs and dvd releases never were big money out of print eBay listings. And since it's blu ray debut, it has been available for $15 everywhere. Even with the slip it wasn't selling like a used, non slip is going for now.
And I think most believe this will be released soon by another label, so what's the hurry and pay $50? I think this just may be a part of all of us who buy and watch these kind of films. We're all willing to pay absorbent prices for things we like to see on our shelves. I just never thought I would see Terror Train as one of them. What's next, Prom Night! |

That's why I try & buy any horror movie I'm interested in as soon as I can. If I wait too long & it goes OOP I have no one to blame but myself. I had Terror Train a while ago but sold it off cause I just didn't like it a lot.

This is one of my favorite blind buys of 2017. It's a blast!
![]() A young woman who is still recovering from a personal tragedy goes along with her husband and four of their friends on a vacation trip. When their seaplane breaks down, they are forced to land by a remote wilderness island. They soon find an idyllic cottage that is inhabited by an elderly married couple, “Ma” and ”Pa“, who live an isolated existence away from electricity, phones, or any contact with the outside world. The travelers accept the warm hospitality of Ma and Pa, only to discover that the couple is still stuck in a rigidly religious vintage 1920s mentality, and that they do not take particularly kindly to modern-day sinners. The new arrivals are soon fighting for their lives against these old-fashioned island dwellers and their demented children. The 1988 film, American Gothic, is my favorite horror discovery in recent memory, because of my affinity for scary tales involving people trapped on islands, and because of its dynamite casting. Just when I think that I've seen all of the great horror movies from the 1980s, I stumble across a new find that gets me one step closer to the “Clean Plate Club.” The legendary Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night, On the Waterfront) stars as Pa, while Yvonne De Carlo, who was quite a beauty in classic films like Criss Cross, Brute Force, and The Ten Commandments, plays Ma. Michael J. Pollard (Bonnie and Clyde), Janet Wright (The Perfect Storm), and William Hootkins (“Porkins” from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope) are the overgrown wisecracking children, and I hope that these actors were compensated extraordinarily well. Mark Lindsay Chapman (Titanic), Caroline Barclay (Species), and Sarah Torgov (Meatballs) star as some of the ill-fated friends, with their immoral newfangled ways of life that are unwelcome to the island family. Early in the film, I was annoyed at the young friends, all of whom behave somewhat disrespectfully in the home of Ma and Pa by keeping their eyes open during the dinner blessing, smoking cigarettes inside, and using foul language. If a friend, or stranger, for that matter, is hospitable and takes you in, then you would be well-served by observing and respecting that person's manners and customs instead of being smugly dismissive. Also, for Heaven's sake, clean your plate! I'm not necessarily saying that these characters deserve what happens to them, but their attitudes do not particularly compel me to sympathize with them during their later plights. This Scream Factory Blu-ray looks quite quite impressive to my eyes, although I have no previous familiarity with the source material. Everything looks nicely filmic, though. The only supplementary feature is an interview with composer Alan Parker. Some early music, as the seaplane lifts off at the beginning of the movie, reminds me a lot of the beginning of the song, “Uniform of Youth”, by Mr. Mister. |

I'm not able to write a better review that American Gothic deserves right now, alas.
I watched the movie this afternoon after work, and had an absolute blast. It's one of those movies about which I could write for hours, and it really put a smile on my face. Such a great blind buy! A couple of hours ago, however, when I was about halfway through the above write-up, I learned that a local running friend committed suicide tonight. I'm distracted, to say the least, and the above review probably shows it. (I returned to finish the review in order to help take my mind off of the real-life stuff for a bit after talking with other friends.) Just know that American Gothic has my highest recommendation, and that it's one of the best Scream surprises of the year. Last edited by The Great Owl; 12-13-2017 at 04:07 AM. |

I just scored a copy at my local Barnes and Nobles the other day for under $20 so you might want to check your local brick and mortar stores if possible for copies. You might get lucky and find one.

Are there any releases from SF that actually best the Arrow counterpart?
(I have found both The Thing and Buckaroo Banzai better image quality) |

I've got a big cart of pre-orders, roughly in the neighborhood of $200 or so, waiting for me to click on payday in a few days. It's basically all of the Scream/Shout Select titles that intrigue me all the way through March.
I'm debating the Assault on Precinct 13 steelbook, even. I already own the Collector's Edition, but...man, I love that movie, and I love supporting it. |

You can't lose with either disc. If you're new to the movie, then grab the Scream Factory release for the awesome cover art. Last edited by The Great Owl; 12-13-2017 at 05:40 PM. |
