Seems like today would be the perfect time to throw out a "jaw-dropping" announcement, something retro and highly requested to really get the gears turning.

Speaking of Jaw dropping... Tales from the Darkside the movie was on HBO this morning. I'm getting new carpet today and so I was up earlier than I would have liked to be, moving furniture out of bedrooms and what not. I wanted some background noise so I clicked around until I came across that. It looked pretty darn good and I stopped and watched the final segment of the film as it's been a few years since I last watched it. Much better than I would have expected even though the film wasn't that old. Seeing it on HBO had me wondering if a Blu Ray release is possibly in the works. Paramount has been stupidly slow releasing catalog titles, but as we saw last year with "Juice" they are still working on them and could very easily be planning one of their horror productions for a Fall release.

Yes, they've announced "House on Haunted Hill", "Trick r Treat", "The Wasp Woman", and the two "Halloween" steelbooks. Plus, on the Select side, "The Man in the Iron Mask" and "Dragnet". There's usually a few Shout releases each month that are like DVD only TV shows or kids' shows. October is actually getting quite full for Shout. I think we're almost finished with October, maybe just a couple more.

Anything? Come on, 90s had some real good stuff on the go.
The thing about the 90's is while you can make a sizable list of really great films, the bad films from the 90's are drek. The drek of the 90's isn't nearly as watchable as the bad films from earlier decades. I should hold some nostalgia for the 90's but so many films from that time have aged poorly compared to earlier decades.

IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS sucks.

You only have 3 weeks until the next batch of announcements (at comic-con) and then a week or two after that we'll have November's announcements as well. Regardless, I'd wager we have at least 3 more Scream Factory announcements for October. There is still nothing announced for October 23rd, the 16th only has a single shout select title (Valley Girl) and then potentially we could still see one title on the 2nd as well.

Kidding aside. In the Mouth isn't one of Carpenter's best, but it holds a special place in my heart because I am a Lovecraft fan. I'm very happy to double-dip on this title!

I enjoy In the Mouth of Madness, as a horror film and as a Carpenter film, even though it falls apart in the third act. But the buildup--especially the first act--is strong, and some of Carpenter's best work as far as invoking a solid atmosphere.

Going back to my earlier post and some of the responses, I think all decades have had an impact on the horror genre. Someone else may have said this as well but the 90s was just different. Same as the 80s being different than the 70s, 60s, etc. My point was they all have their strengths and solid movies. No reason we shouldn't call for them to be released on blu.

All decades have those standout movies and all decades have junk. A good movie is a good movie.

Looking into the 2000s - The Descent is one of my favorite horror movies ever, along with Ginger Snaps. A bunch of great stuff came out of this decade as well.

Back to SF discussion - I still have a strong feeling Thirteen Ghosts is coming, but have my fingers crossed for Cry Wolf and Valentine. I find the previously unreleased announcements the most exciting. Stuff like Trick R Treat doesn't seem all that necessary to me. Picture quality was real decent and I probably paid 1/3 of what SF is going to charge. If by chance it's something I haven't gotten around to buying yet, I'll always consider the SF version in that case, but it depends how much I like the movie, their transfer quality and price. I'm curious if they'll re-release Beetlejuice. Seems like something they would do.

Has there been any signs of how/where Weinstein properties could end up? Wolf Creek would be a solid pick up for Shout if they could get their hands on it.

Yeah, I own the sequel and so I'm just waiting for a blu release of the original. I would buy a release from Scream for sure.

Is Miramax still associated with the Weinstein empire? I always get that confused. I bring this up because the just-released BD of Hardware from Ronin has a Miramax logo on it. I was thinking the acquisition was a one-off pickup but then there wouldn't be a Miramax logo on the disc. We'll have to keep an eye on Ronin to see how this plays out.

From my understanding Disney bought Miramax, but they might not have purchased all the films in it's back catalog. So maybe the Weinsteins sold off some of their unwanted films to boutique labels for profit.

For the immediate future, I suspect they'll stick with Lionsgate. I think it's going to be a while before any decisions are announced regarding what, if any, long-term distribution arrangements are made, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the catalog get flipped to another company, altogether, in the meantime.

**NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT**

We are proud (and so unbelievably excited) to reveal today that we are prepping to release the classic George A. Romero and Stephen King 1982 anthology CREEPSHOW this Fall in an all-new upgraded presentation! Because we feel this is a rather huge and beloved title, we are rolling this out a little more uniquely so please read carefully for all the details that we have at the time.

• Naturally, this will be branded as a “Collector’s Edition” but packaged a bit differently than we have done in the past for other CEs. This will come with a rigid slipcover (like what we did with the deluxe version release of Nightbreed) that will house a Blu-ray case and a collectible booklet featuring a new essay from Michael Gingold (Fangoria, Rue-Morgue, Dellirium). The newly-commissioned artwork pictured on the slipcase is from Laz Marquez (Army of Darkness, The Howling and Lifeforce steelbooks).

• The Blu-ray case wrap inside will be reversible featuring original theatrical artwork on both sides. (The “ticket booth” one and the “Comic book” one.)

New extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced later in September. Rest-assured we have plenty planned and…we are in progress of doing an all-new film transfer!

• This will be the national release which streets on October 23rd. U.S. and Canada territories (Region A).

THE FOLLOWING INFO BELOW REFERS TO THE EXCLUSIVE LIMITED-EDITION WEBSITE OFFER (ONLY 1,500 AVAILABLE):

• If you order Creepshow from our site directly you will receive the Blu-ray two weeks early and the following exclusively-made-for us items:
• A rolled 28.5” x 16.5” lithograph poster of the slipcase art
by Laz Marquez
• A rolled 18” x 24” poster of alternative art illustration, also
by Laz Marquez
• Pre-order link @ https://www.shoutfactory.com/…/creep...-editio…
Question is, will they be able to include Just Desserts in some capacity? Maybe they can come to an agreement with Synapse on that.
