Starman is only in the Scream collection because Carpenter directed it

Single White Female wasn't directed by Carpenter and it's a Scream title. It's a thriller but so is Body of Evidence which was released by Shout

Odd Kalifornia isn't in the Scream collection since it's a thriller.

Same deal with the Walter Hill movies Southern Comfort and Trespass. Oh, but they're action thrillers! They MUST be Scream movies, what could they be thinking releasing them under the Shout banner?!

You can see the inconsistencies here, right?

This is kind of a pointless debate. Shout! is fairly inconsistent with their branding of films that aren't primarily horror films.

But the one think they are consistent on (aside from needless double-dips) is the clumsy shoehorning of Carpenter's films into the Scream catalog with the exception of Elvis.

I can't wait to watch the sycophants try to rationalize a Scream Factory release of Big Trouble in Little China

Boy I hope they sure make a new deal with Fox so we can get Big Trouble in Little China. Wouldn't that be neat?

I guess you missed my post above his. I just said Single White Female is a thriller but it's going to be released under the Scream banner, while Body of Evidence which is also a thriller is in Shout Select. Then he added Kalifornia is also a Shout thriller and I said 'Exactly'

I always wondered why Mad Max was a “Scream Factory” title, though it was released before Shout Select was a thing. Maybe it would fall under that if released now?

Throw in the fact that its the 25th anniversary of Hocus Pocus and he's been a part of anniversary screenings, and even dedicated his last podcast to HP, makes me even more happy for him! It's a good year for his past work, not to mention his current with Nightmare Cinema, which I am looking forward to checking out! The guy is awesome.

Glad to hear others are enjoying his podcast. Be sure to watch for Mick's new anthology film, Nightmare Cinema. Looks good, and reviews are coming in hot.

Well you seem to agree that there's an inconsistency, yet earlier were trying to justify Shout releasing certain Carpenter titles under the Scream banner.

As somebody earlier said, this is all rather pointless, but the reasoning begs questioning.

I wonder how hard they resisted making Elvis a Shout release. No doubt several execs and ads-men over there went crazy brainstorming ways to sell it as a Scream title. "Well Elvis got girls to SCREAM and faint when he performed! Yeah, that'll work!"

Let's not kid ourselves here, Assault is first and foremost an action film.

Going to an earlier comparison I made, if that meets Shout's criteria for a Scream title, why didn't Hill's Trespass? Why was Southern Comfort relegated to Shout? Do these not possess thrills in abundance?

Not trying to justify, just said I don't find odd to see those Carpenter titles under the Scream banner since Scream does release science-fiction and thrillers occasionally. Elvis on the other hand would've been odd, since I've never seen the line release a drama before

there are no rules and the different "lines" under the Shout! banner are arbitrary

I wonder if Scream would consider releasing the 1988 CBS TV movie I Saw What You Did starring Shawnee Smith and directed by Fred Walton.

Shout put out the original 1965 theatrical film with Joan Crawford on Blu-ray, so maybe they'll release the 1988 edition.

A Fox deal would be pretty awesome - still confuses me that The Beach doesn't have a blu-ray release.
