Didn't Shout just release the complete series of Gravity Falls on Blu Ray? Thats not Fox they were working with but straight up a Disney property. Id never say never.

That really only happened because the series creator stepped in and helped make the deal between Shout and Disney.

Well...Whatever is happening with Fox they should release the Beach. Still confuzzles me that this one hasn't hit blu. Big Director, big lead actor. I think Turistas is also Fox but I can't see Disney or anyone other that Shout looking at this one as a potential release.

The Disney cannibalization of Fox really worries me. Disney is such anti-consumer when it comes to their film library and now they're gobbling up another major studio, essentially closing off access to further properties (and some pretty big ones at that). The makers of the next Bond film should cast Disney as a megalomaniacal villain hellbent on fast-tracking the demise of physical media. The film won't have a happy ending, sad to say.

If they strike a deal with Fox, the first priority should be Big Trouble in Little China.

Yeah, Disney does not care about physical media. They're pushing hard for their streaming service. But if they want my business they need to start popping out some Blu-rays of classic titles: Watcher in the Woods, Black Hole, Three Men and a Baby, etc. No streaming for me.

In the 90s Disney let Anchor Bay license The Black Hole, The Cat from Outer Space, Condorman, One Magic Christmas, The Devil and Max Devlin, The Happiest Millionaire, The Great Locomotive Chase, Return to Oz, Tex, The North Avenue Irregulars, The Watcher in the Woods, etc. So I would say they could be open to it.
I think it will depend on the sales of Gravity Falls whether they let Shout have any of their catalogue titles. I'd say if their streaming service doesn't give them the figures they want or the older films are less popular on the service they might be open to letting Shout have some of the none profittable title in the Disney/Fox catalogue.

I thought Disney continues to support physical format with releases of their classic animated films and Star Wars on blu-ray or am I missing something here?

Disney Movie Club has been putting there catalog titles on bare bones blu-rays in the past year. Return to Oz is one that they've done. And they've done quite a few: all the Herbie movies, Treasure Island, and the Freaky Friday movies, etc.. I would expect Disney has plans for the Disnay Movie Club on a lot of these titles; like The Black Hole. I'm just speculating, though, but I think Disnay has found their boutique label to put out these titles on blu-ray; themselves, rather than Shout or someone else.

They do, the Disney Movie Club. Honey I Shrunk the Kids just was released. I would expect anything that Disney has on DVD has a chance to come out in a bare-boned blu-ray release exclusive to the Disney Movie Club.

So, yes they are supporting physical, as these bare-bones releases are starting to come out at a faster pace lately.

btw, sorry for taking this in a Disney direction.

You're missing a lot, actually. Disney's library consists of a lot more than just classic animation and Star Wars but those seem to be the only products the studio is interested in mass producing. Their Disney Movie Club thing is a joke as it's just an exclusive clique that doesn't really count as general releases. Their practices are very anti-consumer. I wonder if Walt Disney himself ever had this goal in mind. Make great movies but limit their release to the public.

I'm quoting myself from the ROTLD2 thread. That was from July 30th.

(Title, my pre-order price, Amazon.ca's current price, Price in USD at today's exchange rate)

Brainscan, 24.24, 24.29, 18.65
Strait-Jacket, 17.97, 22.99, 17.66
ROTLD2, 26.08, 34.69(?!?), 26.64
The Bride, 24.30, 24.30, 18.66
REC Collection, 41.99, 41.99, 32.25
Exorcist II: The Heretic, 26.14, 26.14, 20.07
The Seventh Sign, 24.29, 24.29, 18.65
Brain Dead, 24.30, 24.30, 18.66

On Amazon.ca, all of the titles I've listed have Pre-Order Price Guarantee on their listing pages. Whether the prices will change at release date, remains to be seen.

And now after writing all this, I can't remember what my point was.

I haven't bought anything from Amazon.ca in many years, but I'm going to guess shipping will negate most of the savings from the lower prices.

US customers are better off just waiting for other retailers to list the titles they want for better prices.

Disney licensed a bunch of titles to Kino Lorber. Sure there were some caveats, but a lot of those titles were older ones that they acquired from ABC, Selznick, etc. which gives me hope that they might not care as much about who they licence old Fox library titles to as they would actual Disney movies.

So StudioCanal's 4K of The Fog is going on a limited October roadshow in the US..I hate double or even triple dips but for this movie I want the upgrade. Wish they had waited on the steel.

I hope I can catch that on a big screen. But if the 4K disc drops...guess who's buying it? This guy.
