This is why I've always been a collector of only my "favorite" films, from VHS till today with blu. It's only recently, like this year, that I've begun collecting blu-ray and picking up titles based on what people are buying that interests me, like most of the Scream catalog. I've been a movie fan for the more popular titles seemingly all my life, but now I'm seeing the enjoyment in films like we're getting from the niche publishers.

But, if pricing is going up, up and away, I'll leave the collecting behind again. I'm full-time collecting DC/Marvel/Image hardcovers and trades; I can't collect both with equal intensity.

Sad thing is, I'm a little OCD, and if I can't get the slip on most titles from Vestron, MVD, Scream, I can't be happy (such a shallow existence, I know). So it looks like the home physical movie market is about to go bust sadly...

It seems pretty clear that physical media is quickly becoming a niche product, and prices are going to reflect that. The glory days of enormous DVD sections at your local Best Buy and Target are gone, and the trend will not be reversing. Discs got cheap because they were printing so many of them, the cost per unit went down, and sales went up. Stands to reason that if they're making fewer discs because people are buying fewer, their manufacturing cost is going to go up, and that cost is going to be passed on to us.

Obviously, it sucks. I don't want to go back to the days of Laserdisc or VHS, when I had to pay $50-$60 for a LD or $40 for an imported VHS tape, just to get what I wanted. But you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Home media is going to be a specialty item rather than an impulse purchase item. The salad days are over. Doom, doom! (But seriously, doom.)

The silver lining is that USED physical media has never been cheaper. HPB's, Family Video, etc, you can find a bonanza of discs for just a couple of bucks.

To be honest, I do need to be better about checking Pawn shops, and thrift stores, BUT....at least in my neck of the woods, the USED offerings at media stores is just awful. Dozens of copies of some of the worst movies ever made in the last 10 years. MAYBE you find a copy of something good buried in all the crap, but A) there is a 60/40 chance it looks like someone stored it in a jar of vaseline instead of on a shelf. B) it's the same price, if not slightly more, than just buying it new on Amazon.

So, I guess it depends on the type of collector you are. If you just want things you actually care about/enjoy, I've had almost no luck with used the past few years. If you are just trying to increase the size of your library with any title you can find....it might be more of a gold mine? But, even then, I imagine seeing almost 2 shelves worth of GREEN LANTERN loses its luster after a couple trips.

I'm a huge horror fan & as you can see from my collection I don't buy much else so if they release a movie I really want I'll buy. If it's something I'm only mildly interested in then I'll wait for a price I'm more comfortable paying. I'm not gonna deny myself the movies I really want though so have no problem still pre ordering directly from them in those cases.

I'm getting excited to see if I end up getting TRICK 'R' TREAT and/or HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL sometime next week. That's definitely more than 2 weeks early, but based on when I got my ROTLD2, it's not impossible.

Soo, to get us back on track... when does everyone think the special features for 'Creepshow' will be revealed? I'm personally thinking it may happen tomorrow (Friday).

Never!

Truly though, it does suck in that regard. I'm only OCD about Scream and Vestron because what I have is so uniform, and the Vestron quantity is so low it was a lot easier to manage. So much for that.

Some of the twists in part 2 blew my mind the first time I watched it. It takes the idea of zombies and completely changes the way they were perceived in my eyes. That film took the zombie sub-genre that to the best of my knowledge, no other film has explored.

One last comment regarding the full previous page of pricing discussion... While I am certainly disappointed that prices are going up, the bigger head scratcher for me is/was why was the listing pulled from BestBuy.com? I'll complain, and wait out high prices, but not selling a product all together is new to me.

That would be an awesome announcement. Have fond memories of renting that one from the video store.

I cant STAND owning blu rays that are in nothing more then mint or decent condition. Buying used is rarely an option for me. Were you holding your Class of 1984 blu ray when you were eating moms spaghetti for dinner? I don't get how some of these used blu rays can get to such terrible condition.

Don't even get me started on used blu rays owned by someone who smokes indoors...

DVDs, I can understand, because they scratched so easilly, but Blus take EFFORT to scratch.

Yeah. If it's got a few minor scuffs on the plastic, from simply placing and removing from the shelf repeatedly. Fine. If it's bad enough I can just put the disc and the sleeve in a new/replacement case. But, at a certain point, even the option of replacing the case is not enough to get my brain around spending money on something that's got several cloudy stains and some sort of residue on it. For all I know, in those cases, the disc is in perfect condition. However, the case is too foul for me to even care to check.

I got mine in also. They're in individual cases & the outer box is nice & sturdy, unlike the one used for the Unborn set. Will get some pics up of the set later tonight.

Swell extras and can't wait to see the new restoration and i was hoping for a George Romero memorial tribute but oh well.

Can't wait to see the deleted scenes and more even the Hollowed grounds thing.

Night Terrors? that movie was a horrible Lynch wannabe film and Hooper's worst film! that movie is nowhere going near my collection.
