I suddenly can't remember the name, but I think there was a recent (last 2 or 3 years) independent dramedy that happened with. It got a DVD release, but no Blu-ray at all. Clearly it wasn't major release of any kind, since I can't remember the title. I do remember the DVD case was bright yellow.....

One of my favorite movies of 2017, The Square, didn't get a US blu-ray release. Really bummed me out.

I think discs will be around for a long time though, like vinyl records now. Physical media might shrink considerably, but it's not going extinct.

Just ordered a copy of Black Christmas from Amazon. Hopefully I still get a slip.

I was thinking about this the other night. When that day comes I'm hoping that Studios will consider offering a less compressed version of their films with printable cover/disc art. I will always be a physical media person but having the option to burn a high quality digital file to disc and print some artwork myself would go a LONG way toward helping me accept digital media. I already do this to some extent with films that are available in HD only digitally.

Some releases like Mad Max and Robocop 3 are the same master as previous BDs but they look worse because of poor compression.

Lately they are more and more doing remasters, though not all of them are good. Caps just went up for Platoon and it looks worse than the old MGM disc did. Shout CAN do good work though, like with Carrie and Halloween 6 producer's cut.
Did Shout Factory do the restoration on Halloween 6 Producer's Cut by themselves & then Lionsgate released it on Bluray or did Lionsgate do all restoration work on Halloween 6 Producer's Cut & then allow Shout to release it their complete collection box set?

Mine came last month with a slip, so it's certainly possible. I was surprised; I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Mine has a media section with quite a bit of vinyl. They recently overhauled their music and movie section, cutting the number of DVDs and blu-rays down to about a third of what they were, greatly reduced the CDs, and expanded their vinyl selection.

There’s also a big toy section with lots of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones stuff, Funko Pops, and some Star Wars and Marvel figures.

And there’s also a big section with things like bookends, bags, stationary, and reading lamps.

And a big Nook section in the middle of the store that’s so empty of people there might as well be tumbleweeds rolling around it.

This isn’t too far off the mark:

I'm ready for these October titles to hit. SF actually has a pretty great seasonal slate this year. I'm going to enjoy watching new versions of Creepshow, House on Haunted Hill, Night of the Demons, and Trick R Treat.

Despite the fact piracy runs rampant anyway I'd bet studios would be very hesitant to let you download a DRM free file to burn to a disc. Honestly if studios sold DRM free downloads without compression issues I'd probably switch to buying those. I support discs mainly for DRM free and better quality, I'm not really a packaging guy. I doubt they'll ever do it though, especially with streaming quality being plenty good enough for the masses.

That's a good question and I don't know the answer off the top of my head. There's other examples of good Shout remasters though, like Carrie, Robocop 2 and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The theatrical cut of Lifeforce just got a nice remaster too, though the superior director's cut didn't look so hot.

At $30-35 a pop? I don't think so. I'm not rich.

You're missing a potential Nightmare on elm Street set as well as any mention of the various Corman titles they now own. I also wouldn't be surprised to see them re-release Evil Dead (2013) as a 2 disc set (Rated/unrated) since the US still hasn't gotten their own edition.

Yeah...no. Give me UHDs for The Shining and The Exorcist. Not to mention half your films already have solid or great Blus. Also “Ace Ventura” seems out of place for a Scream release.

I hope that slate is real. It means I can avoid a majority of Scream's titles next year.

Not complaining. At their current prices, I'm relieved.

Bring on Valentine though.

That list is Scream/Shout Factory titles?? If so, The Lost Boys, Gremlins/2 and Interview are pre-orders for me ASAP!
