I’m starting to have trouble playing some of my Scream Factory discs (and only SF discs) in one particular player. I’ve been going through the Halloween set, but the player refuses to play any of the discs except the Anchor Bay-authored ones (1, 4-5) or the Zombie discs. They all play just fine in a different player, which is actually the same mode (Samsung). All of this just started, and the discs don’t have any scratches or anything. This player has always had light skipping problems (including on brand new discs with zero scratches), but this is the first time something like this has happened. I’ve heard of some players rejecting SF discs, but I guess there is some truth to that. I guess it’s not a huge deal as long as they still play elsewhere, but it’s still strange.

Are Scream Factory discs more prone to laser rot? Will have to dig out my overly expensive Nightbreed Bluray and see if it still works.

I'm not sure if it's just a limited release or not, and Rubinstein's website makes no mention of any of it.
If anyone is going to Beyondfest, they should ask Rubinstein why there's no blu-ray in print for Dawn and Martin!

I was looking at that one again, and it looks like that was actually a 2016 showing, not 2018.

I also have some that don’t play in certain players. I remember getting ROTLD and the first disc playing fine in my Sony player, but the second disc didn’t. I then tried it in my PS4 and it worked. A guy brought this up at Comic Con during the Q&A. It gets brought up at 43:25....

Don't get me started... That was the first place my mind went when I got the delay email over Trick 'R Treat. I wasn't worried about the delay part - more the part about a massive amount of pressure being put on one lone manufacturer. Nobody wants to pay good money now for something that suddenly won't play in 5 years. Hopefully the QC team is on the ball.

Technology, why must you agonize me so?

Based on your description sounds like a player hardware issue. Time to replace/repair. If it always had minor skipping issues this is a dead give away it was probably not aligned properly or defective to begin with.

There is a chance discs may be pressed slightly out of spec leading to this behavior but a player with robust error correction should be able to handle it.

I think you're talking about a pre-Scream release from MGM right? It has the old DVD features on it I believe, but not the Scream ones. More importantly it doesn't have the very good remaster of the first movie.

There’s a Scream double feature out there as well (found at Walmart, along with other SF double features). They’re stripped of extras, but I believe PQ and SQ is the same as the CEs.

Please help me decide what to use my $4 credit on. I just got back into collecting Blu-Ray again, the only Scream / Shout Factory releases I have / preordered are below. I'd like to fill out my Carpenter collection, but I'm open to anything. What do you guys feel some of their best overall packages are in terms of movie, features, etc.?

The Fog Steelbook
Halloween II Steelbook
Halloween III Steelbook
Trick R Treat
Creepshow

The Thing is a must own, either the Scream or Arrow blu-ray's (or both). The recent In the Mouth of Madness blu-ray is excellent as well, though there are significantly less extras.

Hold out for the steelbook with the 4K scan, or go with the standard? I'd have bought it already, but have been going back on forth on which version to go with.

Unrelated side note, anyone else loose the "thank" ability?

LifeForce Steelbook is nice, 2 cuts of the movie and best its ever looked. Also return of the living dead 1&2.

The steelbook is a safe bet. You are limited as to the number of thanks over a certain timeframe.

Screams new The Thing Steelbook has both the 2k Scream and 4k Arrow remasters, which both have unique advantages and both Cundey approved, so this set seems the best deal.

But im still hestitant to buy as it is virtually guaranteed The Thing will arrive on a true 4k uhd from Universal within the next couple of years.

I think that was a list of titles u2popmofo already has, so availability isn't an issue.

Completely past scream seen as there are better actual 4K versions of their titles being rolled out, ie the John Carpenter ones. Defo won’t be touching the thing considering arrows version was far superior and a 4K is around the corner
