So it's cool for Shout! to send out damaged products? We should't say anything about it?

lol come on...

The shills are out in full force today.

This seems to lend extra weight to the recent Terminator rumours:

We know one of the 'other labels' is Arrow (for Robocop). Realistically, this leaves Criterion or Shout for The Terminator, and the latter seems the more likely candidate.

It doesn't matter to me which label releases Terminator as long as they include the original mono track

Everyone is now. Synapse and Blue Underground titles could be acquired for like $10 once upon a time.

Hell I think I imported all those Arrow slipbox titles for like $13 a pop

We're all horror fans and look at how we're treating the company releasing all our favorite films.
This plus I dont think people really believe that we are entering a post physical media world. Prices are going to naturally rise but I think Shout! are taking the preemptive strike on price increase and are getting a little greedy since they've took on too much right now.

People complain because they care. Most of those complaining want nothing more than for Scream Factory to succeed (and what's "great" here is they generally agree on what success would be in this case). It's like diehard fans of a sports team or television show. They're deeply invested in its value to them so, if a season sucks, they're going to complain far more than people who stopped following or didn't care to begin with.

Having said that, some complaints can get repetitive. But still.

This.

It's going to be the new normal in terms of pricing for almost every label, but especially the smaller companies. I'd love to see average sales per similar titles today vs. 5 years ago vs. 10 years ago.

Licensing costs money. Manufacturing costs money. Supplemental materials cost money. I've been predicting for years that physical media will survive, but it will be more niche and will have to cater to collectors more and more by offering packaging, books, and supplementals that you can't get by buying a digital copy.

All of that is going to cost. If a label was able to sell 10,000 copies of something 5-7 years ago, but only can sell 5,000 copies today, do you think you are going to be able to pay the same prices from 5 years ago going forward?

You have to pay to play. So, it's pretty much get on board with higher prices or just get out of the game and go digital yourself. But, I will say that for the higher price one should be able to expect a higher level of service and quality to the product.

That has been Shouts issue here, but I don't hold the prices against them, honestly.

Anyone here seen Grotesque (1988)? This needs a bluray really badly... a majorly over looked horror film...

Starring Linda Blair, she and her family are vacationing up in the mountains when a group of gang bangers break in and start brutally murdering them... but when one escapes and they them through the woods, the gang soon realizes that they are being hunted by a viscious wild creature... justice will be served.

Great revenge/ karma horror flick

I'd disagree with this. Some have already reached a point where they are "done" with Scream and are just piling on and hoping they fail at this point. Whether it's the perceived slight of the price increases, the poster issues, or technical difficulties. Some do care and want to see them improve, but some are at a point where they are taking glee in the issues and hoping they fail.

I've seen this same mentality play out online with the Star Wars fanbase. Even if they released a great Star Wars movie that satisfied nearly everyone in the fanbase, some would still get more joy out of bashing online than trying to enjoy what is given to them.

I'll never understand that mentality. I'm more of the mind that if I no longer enjoy a product or service, I'll just move on. That is voting with your wallet. Spending days telling people how you are "done' with something is just grandstanding at that point.

I seen that movie way back in 89 on VHS. It has been 29 years since I watched it. I need to check that out again.

My 2019 Shout Wishlist is for them to go a year without any PQ/SQ issues, defective discs, recalls, or smashed swag.

And also fix the Billy Jack set.

I think it's fair for most of us to point out the oddness of Shout being the company with the most consistent quality issues, also being the ones with no (regular) sales and the highest prices.

I received one for Trick r treat and Halloween 2 steel book. Maybe they’re sending out too many lately.

I think it's apples and oranges. Technical issues are pretty binary, they either exist or they don't. You can objectively prove that the audio track is at the incorrect pitch, for instance. With a storyline, there is no objective right or wrong, the options are a lot more open, and so if one person says "I don't think Kylo Ren is as scary as he could've been," that's just an opinion about a creative choice. I don't think that the issues with Shout releases are judgement calls -- they didn't deliberately release a modified version of "Drag Me To Hell", the changes were made in error. They didn't deliberately release the incorrect audio for "Creepshow", they either didn't check it or they didn't fix it. Even disregarding stuff like "Creepshow", just the number of errors and issues they have acknowledged and corrected with reissues should give you a good indication that pre-release QC is a very low-priority with Shout.

I think if the increase in price had hit, but their QC improved and there were no mistakes for 3-6 months, people would've been fine with the price jump, because they would feel like their money was going to something. But instead, immediately after the price increase, the replication issue hit the country, and it might seem unfair that Shout gets those complaints too -- except that Shout it specifically advertising "Order direct from us and get it early." So people are paying newly-inflated prices to get releases late.

It's probably fair to say that some people are too hard on Shout, that is the nature of the Internet. But most of Shout's problems are self-generated, or at least self-exacerbated. They are a weird hybrid of the worst aspects of small labels (less QC, higher prices) and the worst aspects of larger distributors (indifference toward fans, reluctance to issue corrections, locked-down release dates whether the release is ready or not).

There’s been pictures posted here and elsewhere of posters being ripped and crumpled because some primate shoved them into a shipping tube. The pics I saw weren’t little bends.

The posters are another example of unforced errors by Shout. They charge extra for pre-orders with the poster without offering people the option of ordering without the poster, and then they ship the posters in a way that will almost guarantee damage. Of course people are going to complain if the poster that you require them to pay extra for arrives damaged! But they created the problem themselves -- nobody complains that the other labels don't tack on non-free stuff as a requirement for a pre-order. And they hide the extra charge so well that a lot of people still think the posters are free, and therefore think that anybody who is complaining about them is being a cheapskate.
