Wish some of the Hammers would go down to that price.
$12 is too much? yeah, I mean, why buy something you might like and for you own opinion when you can just follow other people's opinion?

also, what kind of reviews are you expecting for something like the brain?

Heh... Sorry if I riled anyone lamenting my indecision on a blind buy for the Brain. It's not the $12 price... it's adding another title to my shelf that I might only watch once if it is merely amusing. Obviously, I am not expecting 5 star reviews for something like the Brain. But there are trashy movies that are evergreen and good to revisit, and there are others that are good to see just once.

Do I really have to explain myself?

Couldn't sleep Friday night and ended up turning on the TV just in time for Garbage Pail Kids to start on TCM. I had never seen it before and never bought the Shout release given the 2.7/10 rating on IMDB. Didn't want to pay $30CAD for a blind buy like that. I like bad horror/comedy and will watch all sorts of bad movies but this one honestly just seemed like something I wouldn't enjoy in the slightest. That being said, I ended up liking it a lot! I don't care how bad it is. It was lots of good fun. Maybe it's the 80s style movies I like or maybe its the movies with puppet type characters I like (The Dark Crystal, Neverending Story, etc.) but now I'm going to be keeping my eye out for a decent price on the Shout release! Don't let the bad ratings and reviews scare you away from this one. Give it a chance.

Separate thought. Also watched the first Critters movie for the first time. Blind bought the set on release because it was pretty good value for 4 movies. After watching Garbage Pail Kids, I was looking for some more fun, 80s horror. Also really enjoyed Critters and thought Shout did a great job with the Picture quality. Wasn't paying too close attention but nothing with the Audio bothered me (didn't find I was playing with volume levels like some other releases of theirs recently). For some reason I thought this movie was going to be more on the horror/comedy side of things than it was. Were a few laugh moments but not as many as I expected. From what I've read the sequels are tilted more towards the comedy side of things. Overall, happy with my purchase based on the first movie alone and looking forward to checking out the rest.

Hmm interesting! I've felt the same way with regards to his one - intrigued, but unwilling to pay $30 for what is by all accounts a terrible film. I set my PVR to record it on TCM this weekend, so I'm looking forward to checking it out. Even more so after hearing this. Thanks for the head's up!

The Brain wasn't bad, though I wouldn't say I loved it. It was fun mindless entertainment which really is all I ever want from most Scream Factory releases. Brainscan on the other hand I really liked. I think Nostalgia played a big role in my enjoyment of this one as it just oozed early 90's and since I was/am only a couple years younger than Ed Furlong watching this film took me back to my youth. It's goofy at times sure, but overall I actually thought it was fairly well done and I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't have a bigger following/fanbase. I have no doubt that I'll watch this one many times more over the years to come. I just wish I had seen the film sooner as I have no doubts I would have enjoyed it growing up.
It was great to experience Brainscan as a young teen. I remember renting the VHS, and at the time, it was amazing. I love the score, too, and there's a great segment on the SF disc with the composer. I don't think it holds up quite as well as it did, but its definitely a solid 90s horror film, only slightly dated. The Trickster is a formidable villain, and Furlong had a specific charm in those days, even if the director says he was a pain to work with. I'm sure he was, but he's perfect in that role.

I first saw The Garbage Pail Kids growing up. Maybe its because I saw it when I was 5 or 6 but I really took a liking to it. My mom used to be so annoyed because I would watch it all the time. I gave it a rewatch a couple years ago and still loved it. As far as 80's movies go this one is pretty bad, but its also insanely campy. Growing up a young gay I was obsessed with Tangerine, both her story and look.

I bought it about a month ago, and it still came with a slip cover. So it appears it was not a stellar seller, as the original pressing is still out there. I haven't watched it yet, and it does not seem like a movie I would like, but bought it for the same reasons you mention.

Has the IFC partnership run out? I just noticed that there is nothing scheduled for May, June, July, or August from the line. The first Tuesday's of each of these months currently have no announced titles unless I've missed something. I had expected to see "I Trapped the Devil" announced for August 6th, but thus far nothing.

They've just announced American Me for the Select line, which I'm very happy about.

The Itsy Bitsy (spider film) Kickstarter just confirmed Scream Factory will be handling the Blu-ray distribution of the film in the US.

Don't think they've said anything yet. We'll probably hear something in the month or so beforehand.

Wonder what titles they have in store for us this year? Really hoping there aren't too many double dips.
