Thank god. Hopefully VS or somebody can release them.

Some time ago, Wynorski "announced" THE LOST EMPIRE, but that was years before it was actually released on disc.

Sometimes, I think his enthusiasm gets ahead of the facts.

I'm well past annoyed with Shout Factory on this one. We can be pretty certain they have the licenses on SHM 2/Hard to Die so they are effectively holding them hostage. It's definitely souring me on their brand. I hope some German company gets ahold of the rights and gets us some Mediabooks like the recent Deathstalker releases.

Does anyone think The Shining 1997 miniseries has any chance to become a CE?

I'm sure someone does, but not anyone from a company that looks to make a profit releasing titles that a large amount of people will purchase....

Yeah because Sleepwalkers was a huge moneymaker.

Regardless it still needs a blu ray release and The Shining name alone would sell. At least more then movies like Sleepwalkers, Valentine and Dreamscape.

I'd love to have the Shining mini-series on Blu-ray. I don't care what anyone says, I love it.

I remember watching The Langoliers when it first broadcast. Very suspenseful and engaging as I recall. Then the CGI meatballs showed up.

I hate the miniseries but I still think it deserves a blu ray release because I know it has a small cult following and I think Scream would make a decent profit on it just from the name alone. People might also accidentally buy it not knowing the difference. There’s a lot of dumbasses in the world.

All of these were played frequently in the 90's on ABC and like you I got my fill of them. Asking for them right now I'm sure is purely nostalgia fuel as even as a kid I remember thinking how these weren't bad productions, but that they were just so bland thanks to the lacking of any real Horror elements I was craving.

Still... sometimes a nice blast of Nostalgia is all that's needed for me these days. I had a wonderful time with Brain Scan a month or two ago despite having never seen it until watching it that month or two back... the amount of 90's nostalgia packed in that film had me thoroughly entertained. I've been on a bit of a Stephen King kick as of late and have been debating making either King films or Video Nasties the theme of my 8th Annual Horror Movie Marathon this Fall. The release of the above mentioned titles would easily sway me into making it a full on King Marathon as they would cap off my already sizeable number of King films I own.

Glad for those who actually want this stuff, but these films just aren't for me. I'm interested in Big Trouble in Little China just because it's a favorite, and MAYBE Road Games if it contains a superior transfer (already own the Umbrella). Hard to Die/Sorority House Massacre II seems to have dissolved, but I'd be glad to see that one pop back up. I don't know; not looking too exciting from my eyes...
I counted over 30 titles from Barndoors list that I could not resist adding to my collection should Shout release them. So while you will be saving money, I will be spending it like a drunken sailor.....

Does an HD master already exist? If not, consider the fact that it's 3x longer than the average feature film, so the scanning and mastering costs are likely to be more cost-prohibitive.

Along those same lines, the miniseries itself would take up the bulk of a BD-50, so the presence of any extras would likely require a 2nd disc, further driving up the production costs.

The biggest question, though, is whether it was edited / finished on film or not (Don't rely on IMDB). If not, then forget about it, because there's almost no chance they could sell enough copies to make up for the cost to re-edit the film or recreate any special effects in HD.

I hated the Shining miniseries. Part of the reason was I think the 1980 film is a masterpiece and didn't need to be reimagined. I understand the concept of remakes but when something is near perfect, a remake feels even more vain and superfluous.

The television miniseries adaptation of The Shining could have been something special. It was more faithful to the book, Rebecca De Mornay was a great Wendy, and the cast, in general, was superb.

The sappy “Kissing, kissing.. That’s what I’ve been missing.” ending just kills the whole thing, though.

In this case, I understand Stephen King's desire to remake the film. He was never happy with Kubrick's take on the story, and if you've read the book, it's understandable. Kubrick took a lot of liberties. But like you, I think his take is a masterpiece. Easily one of my favorite and most watched movies ever. There's a reason why Kubrick is revered as a visionary film-maker, while King's contribution to cinema is Maximum Overdrive. If King wanted to bring his own cinematic "vision" to fruition, I get it. It's his story and his right. But it's going to pale next to Kubrick.

Like you state, I wouldn't doubt it if this was trickery in some form. But I long suspected Wynorski might have created a hoax just to generate interest in the titles. If that was his plan, surely it worked. I've been clamoring for that double feature since he announced it. If SF does indeed own them, at this point, I don't know why they'd wait so long. Maybe they don't have access to them. Or maybe they're just shining us on, as they've been known to do. Or, the third option, maybe they own the titles and simply don't intend to release them.
