If SHOUT has a Paramount deal, for my money they couldn't have picked a better inaugural title than LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH. It's probably my favorite '70s horror film, and I've got a lot of them.

Off the top of my head I can think of many Paramount titles I'd buy without reservation.

Blood & Roses (rights issues)
Let's Scare Jessica To Death
Looking For Mr. Goodbar (music rights issues)
The Tenant
Targets

Also,
Day Of The Locust
Posession Of Joel Delaney
The Warriors (theatrical cut)
Lady In A Cage
Danger Diabolik

...and while were at it,
I Married A Monster From Outer Space
Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter
Mommie Dearest
The Fan
The Dead Zone

If this Paramount thing is legit, I guess that could mean The Dead Zone for Scream and Elephant Man for Select.

If so, they better do them justice.

Not to throw any cold water on everyone's party but I almost wonder if this a one-off, "got the rights directly from the producer after the studio let them lapse" kind of dealie.

On the other hand, if Scream/Shout! Factory did manage to break into the Fort Knox of home video distribution, my wish list is pretty similar to everybody else's (in no particular order)

Bug
King Kong
Orca
My Bloody Valentine (so I can stop worrying about my Lionsgate disc suddenly not working)
April Fool's Day
Prophecy

It's still credited to Paramount on Amazon Video, YouTube, ITunes, and Microsoft's store.

Until we have confirmation that this title is happening AND we see 2 additional Paramount Properties announced, I am going to assume that this is just a one off as you mentioned. I want to believe that Scream Factory has gained access to the Paramount Library, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

With all of that said... can you imagine if the reason JGTH and Jason X weren't announced last year as part of the Warner deal was because Scream Factory was working on Paramount and believed that the rest of the Friday series could be within grasp? The idea of a Friday box set isn't nearly as exciting to me as that of a Nightmare set, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't end up re-buying the series for the 3rd time if Scream Factory was able to release it.

Just to play devil's advocate, the "home video" rights could've reverted back to the original company while Paramount retains the TV/streaming rights. I don't want to get my hopes up until I see an official copyright line on the back cover.

I'll wager this is most likely the case...

Well one thing's for sure - if it's not among October titles, and there's no other Paramount titles in there - and we don't hear anything else from Scream or elsewhere in the meantime, the anticipation for the SDCC reveals will reach fever pitch.

Of course we'll all be crushed when inevitably there are no Paramount titles among them, but at least we had some hope for a while.

Didn't they pull Hell Night when it leaked?

...or they could just have gotten sick of leaving money on the table after they've seen other holdouts like Warner cut deals.
There's really no good reason for Paramount to sit on their library indefinitely. The surest way to devalue catalog is make it obscure by generations of no exposure.

I'd think all studios are having to redo their catalog in HD anyway if they want to sell it for syndication and streaming.

I'm not saying it's impossible for Shout to have cracked Paramount, I'm saying that I won't get my hopes up until it's explicitly confirmed somewhere.

That said, I believe the counter-argument is that they will make more money off of streaming rights if the movies are not available any other way. While in the long run, I agree with your point, that limited exposure will make the movies more obscure, not more desirable, in the short run it might make sense, at least on paper.

Jeff Nelson *****ed me out on FB for saying that, LOL. He says they have never delayed a title or 'punished' a filmmaker for leaking info.

He says "Hell Night" was delayed ONLY for elements issues.

That's their official statement on the matter.

I had always felt "Hell Night" was pushed back due to being leaked.

I dunno, I don't see why they'd delay a big October release (the original plan) until (ultimately) the first week of January out of spite effectively. Surely it would have done even better for them if released during a peak horror period.

Not horror movies, but Dead Again and Top Secret! are tops on my Paramount wishlist.

In any case, I really hope "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" is truly coming.

I saw that in a drive-in in the 70s, and have a real nostalgia for it. Nothing quite like seeing films like "Walking Tall", "The Legend of Boggy Creek", "Macon County Line", "Let's Scare Jessica to Death", and many others in a drive-in back in the day....

Because conspiracy theory, something something, Scream is the most evil, something something. They'd totally screw themselves out of potential sales for spite.....
