Chuck Russell's THE BLOB (1988) gets a Blu redo this October from Scream Factory!

***NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT***

Terror has no shape! Chuck Russell’s incredibly underrated 1988 remake of THE BLOB is oozing its way to Scream Factory this Halloween. Here are the early details we have a current time to share.

• National street date for North America (Region A) is Oct 15th.

• This will be presented as a Collector’s Edition and will come guaranteed with a slipcover in its first three months of release.

• The newly commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Joel Robinson (Candyman, 10 to Midnight, In the Mouth of Madness). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature the original theatrical artwork.

• Extras will be announced on a later date, but we can confirm that we have produced already a slew of them!

For the sake of convenience, I've put together this rough list of possible Paramount titles, either horror, sci-fi, action, fantasy, thriller - anything that seems borderline Scream Factory material really. Some have already been released on Blu, some will have legal issues, some I'm not sure are even with Paramount (what's the situation with the Dreamworks titles and the Ringu films?), and I've almost certainly forgot some, so bear with me:

In for the Blob 100% (didn't get the previous release) and will probably check out Private School. I'm personally happy about the Blob announcement and glad to see something other than Hammer. For those who collect Hammer, there's an announcement for that to. A little bit for everyone!

I knew the Blob was coming when they were talking about it with the cinematographer on the Movie Crypt podcast. They kept hinting around that there was a secret announcement coming. Great film.

I have the Umbrella release (which includes the original). I may or may not purchase this, depending on what they do with it.

Interestingly enough, the guy who initially claimed to be an insider and made all those predictions (probably almost two years ago now): they've all been true to date. Others he had mentioned were Poltergeist and Frankenstein (De Niro).

Great list; thanks. Lots of possibilities here, lots of new blood. I sure would love those Amityville sequels. A New Generation, Dollhouse, and It's About Time have some great effects and a lot of nostalgia value for me.

Hypothetically, if this documentary was released by a boutique label who owned the Paramount catalog rights, wouldn't that make life much easier for the documentarian when it comes to the legality of showing clips from the film?
