I'm hoping Night of the Demons 3, Tales from the Darkside the Movie, and April Fools day are all coming sooner rather than later as well.

I do agree with another member saying that this was their best comic-con announcement slate ever. I'm not super excited for any one title but am pleased to see a number of them finally and am eager to pick up several.

I will say IF there were disappointments to be had with this years slate though, for me they'd be...

1) No Warner titles. Apparently that was a one and done deal for now?
2) Still no Sorority House Massacre 2 release. Or, to be more general, no Corman properties announced which seems odd.
3) Still no Child's Play 2/3 CE announcements which means the comments for these two titles will continue on.

It really is quite amazing though that we are getting the titles that we are. We have some, like the Fly Collection, which had been asked for/assumed was coming eventually for years now. Its release feels like the conclusion to an unfinished chapter in the fox catalog of releases. The addition of the Paramount titles are very likely going to knock off the big straggler titles that many of us have wanted for years now and hopefully some forgotten gems.

With the Paramount Vault now cracked all that's left to wish for (outside of Scream Factory being able to get their hands on the big name franchises like Freddy and Jason) is for Scream Factory to raid Lionsgate. Who'd ever thought that we'd be where we are today when the line started?

Truth be told I'm also hoping that Scream Factory's agreements have made it possible for other studios to step in in regards to licensing lesser titles as well. I'm sure there are some other forgotten slashers/horror offerings that are worth revisiting that Scream Factory may not have an interest in releasing but others would.

Yes, it's pretty amazing when you factor in all the studios they've now worked with. I remember, years ago, asking them if they could release Brainscan, and they replied with, "Sorry, that's a Sony title." Now that Paramount has been accessed, I feel like nothing is out of the question/off limits. Who knows where they're going at this point...? The sky's the limit.
Either way, it looks like Scream Factory is becoming the elite line for the horror film library. At this point (and I know I may get some flack for this), I think they've surpassed Arrow as far as titles licensed.

No wonder it took them a while to get it then - it's with Sony

But in all seriousness, it is astonishing to think how vast their library will be when this is all said and done (hopefully not for a few years yet). I thought Anchor Bay's catalogue would never be surpassed, but I think Scream will ultimately succeed in this (at least in terms of horror, admittedly AB's scope was more broad). For that they deserve a tremendous amount of credit. Hard to think we'd reach this point when the line was announced 7 years ago. I bet Cliff and Jeff never thought we would either.

Also worth noting that Shock Cinema (the Australian label) has announced Roman Polanski's the Tenant. This the same label that has already announced MBV, too. I think it's safe to assume SF might have access, as well.

In terms of other titles I'm waiting to see if we have a StudioCanal-style situation where other labels sniffing around (i.e. Criterion and Kino, perhaps even Arrow) might have done new deals with Paramount reflecting their apparent shift in policy (that, or some serious cash was finally stumped up). If so, I could definitely see The Tenant ending up with Criterion. But if Scream have had first dibs on everything (and given that Kino and Arrow would have been after these horror titles too, I expect they got the pick of the horror titles at least, possibly more for the Select line as well), well, maybe they picked up The Tenant? Might be that other labels are only really aware of their success with Paramount in light of their SDCC announcements, so it will be interesting to see if the Kino Insider is any more transparent about things now, given he was rather coy when initially asked.

Pretty large amount and diverse tittles announced at Comic Con. There are a few I have not seen over the years, a few I'm not interested in, and a possible double-dip with Big Trouble in Little China. The two that I truly want to get are Twins and Very Bad Things from the Shout line at this point.

There's definitely someone new at Paramount's Home Video division since they also seem to be newly interested in releasing some back catalog titles themselves, although The Stand, Pet Sematary and MacGyver had/have remake tie-ins that justified the BD reissues. The 70's series Holocaust doesn't have a tie-in, though. If Arrow gets in on this I'm probably going to go bankrupt.

I’m hoping that with this new deal they have with Paramount, Ordinary People might now be a contender for a Shout Select release. That film is far overdue for an HD release. It’s probably one of my most wanted titles actually I’m really sick of having to watch the DVD every time I wanna watch this movie.

I'm surprised with all the Paramount talk that no one has mentioned The Stepford Wives.

However, I do know that the rights with that title are tricky; at last word, some outside company actually owns the rights to the film although I can't remember who. Does anyone know who it is?

I don't really know what he was driving at. What exactly do they say about rumors lol? If it's the 'accepted by idiots' one, well, I guess the idiots were right on this one...

Initially I was wondering if he meant more of a 'there's no smoke without fire' thing, though I'm not sure now. Given how he words this, it doesn't sound as though Kino were aware (at that point, this was about 3 weeks ago) of Scream agreeing a package deal with Paramount does it? After all, he only mentions 'a title'.

Yeah, The Stepford Wives, along with Sleuth and The Heartbreak Kid and some other titles, are not with Paramount, but some kind of pharmaceutical company I believe asking mega bucks to licence them. Until that changes I can't see anyone getting their hands on them.

But one Paramount title I think we'd all love to see is Looking for Mr Goodbar. Could Shout (or someone else) finally unravel the rights issues around that one?

Stepford Wives (and the remake) are both top tier wants for me. But I guess nothing is impossible at this stage. I'd love to hear SF elaborate on this Paramount deal, considering that no one ever thought it would happen. I mean, we've been speculating on the possibilities of that for years, and it's become a type of legendary golden goose for SF fans and Blu-ray collectors. But I know SF are usually tight-lipped about such things, though. Still, I'd love to know how it came to be.

Are you referring to the legendary alternate ending? I know it was shot, but do we know if this footage actually still exists? I too would love to see it, as April Fool's Day has been a favourite of mine for years. I'd love to see this one get a Collector's Edition release (and this seems like a no brainer at this point, so long as the Paramoint Deal allows for it), and if they do in fact have that alternate footage, it would be amazing to finally see it.

Bristol-Myers Squibb owns Stepford Wives, Sleuth & Heartbreak Kid. Apparently they got big bucks for the DVD rights back when those three films were being re-made, so they seem to think that those prices are justified for the blu-ray rights. Not being in the film business, they probably don't realize the market has shrunk.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar has music right issues. It would be nice if someone could figure those out.

I remember back in the day it was an insane amount of money they received for licensing 'Stepford Wives' on DVD, although I can't find an article about it.

From what I quickly researched it sounds like these movies are in a similar situation as 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978)

I believe that during Shout's SDCC panel, they mentioned Looking for Mr. Goodbar as a title that is not likely to ever get a disc release. So it aint ever happening.

It's so depressing to have people on the inside track confirm my suspicions. GOODBAR is now a Holy Grail title, I can't wrap my head around such a good film being torpedoed for life over a couple disco tunes.

They also listed Little Darlings as one that isn't likely to ever get released because of the music
