I sold a lot of them on eBay about six months ago. I initially wanted to collect them, but then I had too many and no room for them. There's only so many posters one can hang on the wall of his house (and my wife doesn't want to see anything like this outside the walls on my own media room). I kept one of Creepshow and In the Mouth of Madness. The others are gone.

Yeah, they don't determine whether a title is a Collector's Edition due to the extras, they do based on how big a name the title is. Witchboard was a pretty stacked release, but didn't get the labelling since it's not as popular a title as, say, Night of the Demons from the same director.

Still, the biggest Paramount film I'm looking out for is the Dead Zone. That seems like a title Shout! would go after right away.
I'd be shocked if they only got titles for the Scream line from Paramount. At the very least, I could see them at least attempting to get The Warriors and Pretty In Pink for the Shout Select line.

A "collectors edition" of The Warriors with the theatrical version and a bunch of new features would be soooooooo nice.

Exactly. An HD transfer for the theatrical cut exists (it was used on the German Blu-Ray), and the steelbook that Paramount put out is the same Blu-ray Disc that's already been released here, packaged with the original DVD of the theatrical cut. The theatrical cut in HD alone would be a selling point for the fans that opted not to import the German digibook.

Yeah! I could not wait any longer and had to get the German Digibook. Shit was $40, but I didn't mind. I love this film.

I broke down and purchased the HD version off iTunes last time it was on sale. It's not perfect, but I couldn't watch the DVD anymore on my new TV. I would buy a physical copy of it in a heartbeat!

Scream Factory went on record as saying that Witchboard wasn't a collectors edition because they didn't think that they'd be able to acquire as many extras as they did. Had they known it would have turned out the way it did they would have made it a collectors edition.

When a film is announced they are often in the process of obtaining permissions and recording features. On rare occassions extras fall apart and a collectors edition may not be as full featured as originally planned... (Death Becomes Her) in other instances more content/extras become available than what was planned and a "standard" release suddenly has more content than many of the collectors editions (Witchboard). Name recognition is certainly part of the process of choosing what is and isn't a Collectors edition, however more often than not the availability of accessible materials and cast/crew is a bigger factor.

Just curious what stopped them from changing it to a Collector's Edition though? Did the additional extras come in at the last minute?

Purely speculation on my part, but based on what I've seen I believe cover commissions often take 4-6 months to be completed and approved. By the time Scream Factory realised what they had it was likely too late to commission new artwork without delaying the release for several weeks/months. Things just sort of all came together on that release 8n a way they didn't expect and we the fans benefitted.

Question:

How better are the transfers on Halloween II (steelbook), Halloween III (steelbook), and The Fog (steelbook) compared to their previous releases?

They are an appropriate step up and the best the films have looked. Whether that's worth a double dip or not will be up to you. The links below will take you to comparisons for you to decide.

The Fog steelbook is the same disc as the previous release.

Halloween III is a noticeable improvement. Halloween II isn't a drastic upgrade, but is an improvement in my eyes (use the Caps-o-holic links TripleHBK poster to judge if it's enough of an improvement to double dip in your case).

Not to mention, both Halloween steelbooks now have subtitles, if that's a factor in your viewing at all.

Agree, they're both worth it if you're a fan. Is there any plan they'll give the same treatment to The Fog? Love that film and would dip again.

After watching the steelbook 4K remaster for Halloween II so many times now and being so used to it you can really notice the sharpening and EE of the previous releases.

I second that, in case any Shout people are paying attention. The Warriors deserves a theatrical, non-ridiculous-cartoon-nightmare edition, and you know Deborah Van Valkenburgh is really nice about doing interviews and has a genuinely pleasant personality, in stark contrast to half the actresses in the world, so it could actually be a Collector's Edition and one people would be excited about.

Seconded. The Fog is just special, but, if they really wanted to knock it out of the park, they'd get the rights to the remake and do a set, with all the versions and features they could get, including the ones already made. That would sell well just for having two films.

And, to the reason I'm posting, "Lust For A Vampire" arrived. So far, it looks good. Then again, all I have to compare it to is a terrible UK dvd. Can't wait to hear the worst song ever on film with a nice HD picture to go along with it. Thank you, to Shout/sub-label Scream, for releasing this.

If they hadn't already double-dipped the title as a steelbook, I'd think there was a good chance (especially since there IS a 4K transfer out there, along with Escape From New York, They Live and Prince of Darkness, thanks to StudioCanal). Since they already pulled that trigger, I think it's a lot less likely, since Scream haven't really tried going for triple dips of their own releases yet (I guess technically you could say Halloween II and III were triple dips, if you count the box set, but those discs were identical to their original releases).

I understand and agree that "every film is someone's favorite film", and as such, all films should (ideally) get the best release possible. That said, if that release were to ever come to pass, I'd hope that they did both films separately instead of a two-pack, as The Fog remake is one of my least favorite movies of all time (certainly my least favorite remake), and I'd rather not buy it just to get a "better" release of the original. I have both the Scream release and the StudioCanal 4K collector's set; those would suffice just fine.

Anybody watched their Humanoids from the Deep yet? I was wondering if someone could comment on the quality, curious to see if it's worth upgrading from the previous bluray. Thanks.
