I have a question regarding Scream's tendency to equip their titles with (seemingly) only DTS-HD Master Audio tracks...

Has the label ever released a Blu-ray with a TrueHD audio mix, or do they plan to in the future, does anyone know?

Also -- and I apologize if this has been covered in this thread already -- does the company plan on releasing titles in 4K UHD?

Oh, something else I just thought of that I wanted to ask...

Why is it that Scream will repurpose audio mixes for older titles -- i.e. Amityville II: The Possession, Prison, et al. -- taking the original mono or stereo mixes of these films and doing an alternative DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround track, yet for other titles they don't?

A good example is something like Halloween III -- Scream (nor Universal, for that matter) never created a 5.1 surround track for any Blu-ray variant they released of the title (not even for the latest steelbook special edition with the 4K scan, unless I'm wrong), instead keeping the soundtrack in its original mono form (on DVD releases, this was a Dolby Digital 2.0 mono track; on Scream's Blu-ray it's been in DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono).

Anyone know why some of these titles never received the typical Scream 5.1 "upmix" option?

Blood and Lace is fantastic, trashy fun. Very atmospheric too. I bought it several years ago at a Barnes and Noble when I was still in grad school—I had never heard of it before and was intrigued. I re-watched it again recently and still really like it. It feels like a TV movie, and has as much melodrama as it does horror, but it definitely earns its proto-slasher status.

Perhaps the audio stems no longer exist or aren't available.

I suppose that's possible; thanks, binks.

It just seems like they do one of these "surround upmix options" on nearly every one of their releases, save for a select few.

If only there had been an opportunity for you to purchase them sometime in the past few years. What a clown fest.
It’s almost like some of us try to save money and wait for them to go on sale or forget. The superiority complex here for god forbid forgetting about a few titles is astounding. And not all of us have known about Shout for all of these years either but thank you for your glorious insight your highness.

Scream Factory should consider what Vinegar Syndrome is doing and look into starting releasing titles in 4K UHD format.

I had asked about this on the previous page; does SF not have one 4K UHD title out? Do they intend to release in the format?

I’m not aware off any 4K title they have released and also not aware of any hints that they plan to do 4K UHD release in the future. Maybe they are waiting until they released everything on BD first then go 4K?

Yeah I've realized it gets a lil rough in here when you let some emotion out when missing out on titles. I have an Amazon wishlist of movies that is roughly 2 grand. I cannot just purchase all of these titles at once, so I prioritize, and sometimes movies will fall through the cracks.

I"ve been purchasing movies since Teen Wolf on VHS but I only recently started "collecting".

Exactly. I have a ridiculous amount of movies on my wishlist and sometimes I wait on a title and other times I didn’t even know a title existed from a company. Life happens.

Furthermore, I was more so expressing in my original post some frustration at the fact that these titles aren’t supposed to be going OOP for a couple of months or so, but suddenly in the span of only a few days or so titles are sold out at Best Buy, sold out at Diabolik (usually my back up), inflated or hard to find on eBay, etc. Even the titles that immediately went OOP recently had a bit of a longer grace period for finding them and longer periods for selling out.

But I’ve learned my lesson. Don’t express that or prepare to be called a clown. As if it’s that serious.

Thanks, moviezrule! Not only available, but at a good price point and there's a coupon (MISTLETOE) for an extra 10% off.

I paired it with the Noir Archive vol. 3 which was also at a good price point atm, to qualify for the free ship.

I kind of tend to ignore DD nowadays, as the tax usually kills any good coupon discounts, but I was happy with the total price on these two.

Since SF's is letting the lesser/obscure MGM titles go OOP, I've made a list of ones that that aren't discontinued yet, but would be at risk and could be announced soon.

(off the top of my head, more will be added in the future)

The Evictors

Crucible of Horror

Full Moon High

Childs Play CE (might have sold well in the past, but maybe not so much now to justify not renewing it)

The Vampire Lovers

Daughters of Satan

Poltergeist II CE

Poltergeist III CE

Teen Wolf CE

Teen Wolf Too CE

Teen Wolf/Teen Wolf Too double feature

Fargo (Steelbook and retail edition)

Platoon (Controversial transfer doesn't help)

Species CE

Manon of the Spring/Jean De Florette double feature (MGM's rights might be expiring and revert to Pathe eventually)

Superbeast

Robocop III CE

Eddie and the Cruisers/Eddie and the Cruisers II double feature

Love at First Bite / Once Bitten double feature

Cellar Dweller / Catacombs double feature

Grave of the Vampire

The Outing / The Godsend double feature

The Dungeonmaster / Eliminators double feature

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure steelbook

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey steelbook

Bill & Ted double feature BD

TerrorVision / The Video Dead double feature

Motel Hell

I Escaped From Devil's Island / The Final Option double feature

Pumpkinhead

UHF

Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh

Henry V

The Phantom of the Opera 1989

Escape from New York CE (MGM's rights might expire or they might try to renew it with StudioCanal)

Breakin' / Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo double feature

Rappin

Rockula

From a Whisper to a Scream

Tentacles/Reptilicus double feature

Miami Blues

Mad Max (was their best seller, maybe not much now to renew it unless another label wants dibs on it)

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man

The Return of Count Yorga

The Brain That Wouldn't Die

Invasion USA

Return of the Living Dead

Death Wish II

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

Doctor Bloods Coffin

Carbon Copy

The Vampire and the Ballerina

Body of Evidence

Alien Predators

A Breed Apart

Quigley Down Under CE

The Man in the Iron Mask

City Slickers

Get Shorty CE (incorrect claims about new transfer doesn't help it's low sales)

Valley Girl CE

Naked Vengeance / Vendetta double feature

Hang 'Em High CE

When Harry Met Sally CE

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels CE

Four Weddings and a Funeral CE

Deadly Force

Kalifornia CE

Legally Blonde collection

It would be wise to pick up these ASAP before the post announcement frenzies start and all the scalpers hoard them. There's also the chance if some of them are meeting sales expectations, they'll renew and keep some in print or reissue them with new transfers like they did with Ninja III.

I got a shipping confirmation on the Amityville set from Best Buy earlier today. I assume they got more in, but might be the last batch.

I wanted to pick this up, being a huge fan of the franchise (and having grown up close to the real house; it was always a fascinating story to me) but the MGM DVD box set I own, and which includes the excellent History Channel documentaries about the Lutz/DeFeo cases, has always been satisfactory to me...especially the high-def transfer they gave the original film. Looks TRULY stunning on all my setups and nothing like DVD-quality at all. Plus, there's already a great 5.1 remix on that disc plus cool extras like the interviews with Brolin and Kidder, as well as a commentary track with Hans Holzer.

What I am longing for, more so than that, is seeing Scream's Blu-ray of the second film, a personal favorite of mine. MGM dropped the ball with parts two and three in their DVD set, as they're barebones flippers with nothing but trailers on them. The Scream Blu-ray not only includes the awesome original theatrical artwork of Amityville II (I have the original theatrical poster framed) -- and all of the films, for that matter -- but a remixed 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track, whereas the MGM DVD only contains the original 2.0 mono (presented as Dolby Digital). There's also some cool special features and interviews on the Scream/Shout disc with Rutanya Alda, Dianne Franklin and others, and this has always piqued my interest.

I also wanted to get my hands on a long-out-of-print Collector's Edition of Amityville II from the UK (DVD) which adds a commentary track as well as a 5.1 surround mix and very cool/rare lobby cards, photos, deleted scene pictures and more. There's even a booklet inside that talks about the real case the film was based on, regarding the DeFeo murders and the real house.

Is the Scream/Shout Amityville box set one of the MGM titles scheduled to go OOP?

Thanks.

I know my local Fry's had it for awhile, but I haven't been there in quite some time.

Wonder if there's ANY remote chance of any studio picking up the rights and doing a 4K set......
