Same. However, who knows about the uncut versions 2-8. Scream seems to have gotten a good print of My Bloody Valentine, so who knows what is possible.

Hey, quick question- if I pre-order something from Shout directly and also throw into the cart a title currently in stock, will the currently in stock item only ship out with the pre-ordered item?

Thanks!

That's a good point, Scream seems to be good at finding lost cut footage.

I mentioned it as I sent them a message regarding the F13 films as now they are releasing paramount titles. I would message them every now and again and they always respond saying either they don’t have plans to release a particular title or they don’t own the rights. This time they read the message and never sent a response so it sparked my curiosity.

Would also love the original Stepford Wives been looking that film for a long time... think paramount have the rights in the US

Crescendo (WB)
Hysteria (WB)
She (WB)
Moon Two Zero (WB)
The Damned (Sony)
The Stranglers of Bombay (Sony)
The Terror of the Tongs (Sony)
Creatures the World Forgot (Sony)
The Nanny (Fox)
The Anniversary (Fox)
Shadow of the Cat (Universal)

Surely we'll see the remaining Hammer estate titles (though I'm not certain about Four-Sided Triangle), and they're rumoured to have at least a couple of Warner titles (Curse of Frankenstein and Crescendo). Not sure about the rest. If they had the Fox titles, I expect we'd have seen them by now since they'd have used existing masters. The Kino Insider says Shadow of the Cat either has legal issues or is with another label, so maybe. On the evidence of The Ugly Duckling, I expect Sony will put out their remaining Hammer titles themselves.

On top of these, they're almost certainly going to double-dip on some more Universal titles:

Brides of Dracula
Kiss of the Vampire
Phantom of the Opera

I'm not convinced they'll bother with the other 3, though they might. There's also the Warner Hammer titles already on Blu-ray, providing they can get them. Again, I can't see them wanting to tackle all of these, but Horror of Dracula and The Mummy (the latter is lacking extras from the UK release) both offer room for improvement. The other Frankensteins and Draculas already look very good, and the scope for extras isn't as obvious, so it may be that they leave these.
I'm going to guess that Prehistoric Women and The Viking Queen will get released under the Shout label like the upcoming Shatter release. They aren't really horror or even sci-fi, being more prehistoric adventure films. Four Sided Triangle is technically sci-fi but not all that interesting so who knows what they'd do with this if it even gets a release.

As for the Warner stuff Curse of Frankenstein has to be coming from someone, I'll guess it gets an OCtober release if we get it this year. It's the most important Hammer film as it really kicked off their horror films and it's crazy it still hasn't gotten a BD release. She is another one that is mysteriously absent from BD as it would be a big seller featuring 3 big stars (Ursula Andress, Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee). Crescendo and Hysteria could come from Warner Archive as they put out the DVDs, not sure they'd be big enough sellers for Scream to bother with. Moon Zero Two is another odd ball that wouldn't sell a lot of copies.

The two Fox titles I think would sell as they both feature Bette Davis but not sure what's going on with them. Heard a rumor The Nanny was definitely coming but that was a year ago. The Anniversary is long OOP in the USA and I'd love to be able to pick up a cop of that one.

Shadow of the Cat is one I'd really love to see as I don't believe it's been available since VHS days. That would seem to point towards legal issues, so hopefully someone can untangle things and get this released. One of the few Hammers I've never seen before.

I think double dips of Phantom of the Opera, Brides of Dracula and probably Kiss of the Vampire are very likely. Night Creatures is possible as it stars Peter Cushing and was advertised as a horror flick despite really being a pirate movie. Can't see them bothering with Nightmare and Paranoiac though at all. They just wouldn't sell in my opinion.

Maybe they are up to something here, after all it is the 40th anniversary of the original film. This calls for a detective to investigate the clues and see what they are up to. Hopefully they are up to something good in this regard.

Stepford Wives isn't with Paramount, they only released the original on DVD because they made the remake. I remember reading some time ago the film is with someone who want a lot of money for it.

Shout almost always ships out in-stock items immediately, and holds pre-orders until close to the release date.

The Stepford Wives is with a pharmaceutical company called Bristol-Myers Squibb, which also owns a few others that they’re keeping a tight grip on until someone forks out an ungodly sum of money.

The story goes that Paramount paid a huge sum for the home video rights back when they produced the remake, which also happened to be the glory days of the DVD market. So, Bristol Myers-Squibb, a pharmaceutical company with zero knowledge of the film industry or the current state of the home media market, probably believes that huge sum is just what the title is worth to license period.

Bristol Meyers-Squib also owns:

SLEUTH
THE HEARTBREAK KID
THE STRANGE VENGEANCE OF ROSALIE
TO KILL A CLOWN (maybe)
and other Palomar films.

The films individually mean nothing to them, but they are held as assets. BM-S cashed in big time when STEPFORD WIVES and HEARTBREAK KID were remade.

Now, we need Disney to announce a remake of STRANGE VENGEANCE OF ROSALIE. Maybe Rosalie could become the latest "Disney princess."

I don't disagree but I'll say this. Both of those are far better films than The Evil Of Frankenstein and Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell.

Folks have been asking about it for a while now. They likely are just tired of answering the question. I'd love to see a Friday the 13th and/or Nightmare on Elm Street set from them but I'm not holding my breath any longer.

But speaking of Re-releases... It's a shame they couldn't get access to the Dimension catalog as From Dusk Till Dawn would make a wonderful collectors edition.

Not now, but maybe in the future if Paramount (who owns the Miramax catalog now) decides to licence the Miramax/Dimension titles out.

Candyman and Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh now both $16.99 on Amazon. Ordered both at those prices. Not expecting to get a slip for it but it's OK. First time owning the sequel on any home video format. I remember very little about the film but I figure at this low price if it sucks I wouldn't have spent too much on it. I know for sure I don't ever want to own the third one, though - not even if Lionsgate turns it into a Vestron Video Collection title. I guess it's a good thing I'm not an OCD completionist

There is a lot of hate out there for the 3rd one but I watched it a few weeks ago for the first time on amazon prime and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Maybe it's because my expectations were set so low but I'd have to say it's also kind of a product of its time. Is it on the level of the original? absolutely not. Is it as good as the 2nd? I'd lean towards no as a "complete" movie but in terms of simple entertainment I'd put it on the same level. I'd buy it and I'd like to see it on blu.

And Sleuth. IIRC, they wanted to remake "Stepford Wives" so badly that they were willing to overpay for the package that included remake rights to all three, and then they called up the Farrellys and said "Hey, you should remake The Heartbreak Kid for us". I don't remember whether Sleuth was an intended remake or a similar "forced as part of a deal" thing. If you watch all three, "Sleuth" and "Heartbreak" definitely feel like perfunctory remakes with nothing specific driving them, where "Stepford" has a specific reinterpretation of the material... but I don't mean to suggest that any of the three remakes are worth watching.

Been a long time since I bought a Scream disc, but $16.97 is a good price for Candyman imo. Never seen it, but its reputation has me intrigued enough to risk a purchase.

Now if only some other collector's editions could hit this price point.

Amazon must be sitting on a lot of Scream Factory stock I would think. With the prices they charge I doubt they are that popular. Need a good sale similar to the MVD sale that was recently on.

Amazon only had a sale on MVD titles because they were matching Best Buy. They have very close to zero interest in originating their own BD/DVD sales.

As for Scream's popularity...I mean, they've been doing what they're doing for a good long while now. If it was a failure as a business model, they'd be trying something else or closing up shop. I sure wouldn't complain if the prices were lower, but I have to assume it's working for them.

I'd say the opposite is true considering how many new releases and new remasters they're constantly putting out with new announcements almost daily. They're an extremely popular label.

Most new SF releases are $25-26 CDN here. The preorders are usually around $24.99 CDN on Amazon. That's hardly expensive considering the price point of other boutique labels (Criterions go for $39.99+ here).

I'm sure Shout Factory is doing just fine.
