Yea, I'm sure their business model is working. I think their output probably reflects that. More power to them.
They definitely lost me as any kind of reliable customer though when their prices started getting as high as the standard price is now.

I get a comparison to, say, Criterion, but even they have half-off sales (at least for the US), so when I can get a Criterion for $20, but have to pay more than that for a Scream title, well the choice is easy for me.

And that's to say nothing of the actual quality of the film I'm buying, but that's more of a subjective matter.

I would argue that Scream Factory is the most famous of the “cult” labels. I’m not saying they’re necessarily the best, but they actually have a relatively sizable fanbase and following. They’re basically retro horror’s version of Criterion. Some people even buy Scream Factory releases just because they put them out.

I don’t buy as many of their releases as I used to because of their prices, but I’m more than happy to pick up any of their releases if they are on sale.

Arrow is retro horror's version of Criterion.
Scream is retro horror's version of Sony or WB.

They have over 500 releases with more coming, so they must be doing okay.

I'd say SF is the blu-ray version of Anchor Bay, when SF first came about they released Halloween 2 alternate version and tv version of The Thing, they've done the same for Nightbreed and Exorcist 2 and 3 etc. I'm aware that Arrow has done the same for the UK releases of these films but SF was the first out of the gate to do so. Also in the beginning they released a lot of films for the first time onto DVD and Blu-Ray in region 1/A so that brought a huge impression to many collectors.

Yeah, Anchor Bay used to be the big cult DVD label 20 years ago, along with Image. GoodTimes was basically Mill Creek.

I was talking about brand recognition. I would argue that Arrow is better than even Criterion, but they aren’t as well known, and don’t release as many high profile titles.

I agree that Arrow is giving Criterion a run for there money, But I think at this point CC is more known for being focused on the Auteur filmmakers and certain critically acclaimed films. For that reason I'd say Arrow and CC are more like siblings, they both gives their releases the same TLC but Arrow would release the film The Wind (1986) while CC would release The Wind (1928)!

Also with SF focused more on the big studios back catalog, they've lost interest in obtaining films like The Haunting of Julia (1977), while I could see Arrow still attempting to get these smaller films.....

Last year I bought all the Scream titles from the summer of 2018 when they started this until the end of last year. I took 3 routes. One was Hamilton Books. Then there was a 40% off Barnes and Noble sale. There was the Target buy 2 get 1 free sale. I completed it by using the 50% off one title discount at Bullmoose. The average price that I paid was under $19.00. The last Target buy 2 get 1 free sale, I did 2 orders which included 4 Scream Factory titles. I was charged around $17 for the first one, Let's Scare Jessica to Death. That leaves
3 Scream titles that I am undecided about.

I'm sure Shout Factory is doing just fine.

That really doesn't mean anything. On one side, they could be doing well and putting out new titles. On the other hand, they are making some money but have to put out titles at a rapid pace to generate new revenue. It is a well known business principle that you generate a certain amount of sales at a certain price level. Then you lower the price to entice people who are not willing to pay $22 or more to keep revenue coming in. Scream is not doing that so the sales plateau and drop off rapidly.

Richard Klemensen has revealed that 'The Men Who Made Hammer' extra will be a nine-part series, the first of which can be seen on X: The Unknown. There isn't one on Rasputin, and indeed there may not be one on all Hammer discs going forward, but still, that's 8 more installments to come, and we only know of an additional 6 Hammer titles across April and May, so that guarantees at least 2 more (hardly a surprise). It might be worth keeping track of the extras to see where they appear.

You're the equivalent of the shopper who pulls a bunch of coupons out of a fanny pack and gingerly hands them one at a time to the cashier at the Supermarket. I'd hate to get stuck behind you on line

Now we just need to find someone to maintain and update the list of where to find the installments. Hmmm...

To save the kind of money he was talking about, I would totally be right there behind him with my own fanny pack :P

I’m guessing They Live will be the first because a) It was one of their best selling releases, b) It’s already been released in multiple territories overseas, and c) I just imported the Australian release last month.
I definitely think that, if The Deer Hunter does well for them, the next 4K release of theirs will be a Carpenter film. If it's not They Live, it'll be either one of the other four films StudioCanal put out in 4K, or it'll be Halloween II and/or III.

Or The Thing, if Universal isn't holding that back for themselves.

That sounds really terrific.

I've been a longtime Hammer fan, but have never really bothered to learn much about the familiar names that pop up again and again in the credits. I'm really looking forward to this, and hope they complete the series.

Just a heads up my sale copy of Candyman did arrive with a slip. I thought for sure the slipped editions would be long gone by now.

Wish we could get a steel book or reissue of RAVENOUS. With a new transfer that isn’t complete ass. Still my biggest disappointment release.
One of my favorite movies and the Blu-ray looked worse than the dvd.

Our best bet is if another label picks up the rights. Last I asked, SF had no plans to re-release it.
