What sucks is that in the intros for the Arrow Blu-Ray's I have there is a clip or two from Silent Night, Deadly Night and I can tell it is indeed 1080p quality. So, someone PLEASE release this! Arrow? Scream Factory? Scorpion? Anyone!!!
Oh yes, most definitely! I absolutely love Silent Night, Deadly Night. I've got both Anchor Bay DVDs - the Double Feature w/ part 2 from 2003 and the individual release from a few years later (2007?) This film needs a 1080p BD release. It has such a dirty feel to it which makes it all the better. Definitely a product of its time (1984). You couldn't make this film today and have it capture that same feeling from 1984. I think the parent outrage protests actually helped SNDN. I watch it every Christmas along with Black Christmas (1974 and 2006)

Port over the commentaries, bonus features and youd have
The Ultimate Edition of AOD !!
Like I said, buy it in a heartbeat! Maybe have a new documentary too!

There have been three Prom Night (1980) DVD releases in the US.

1.) Anchor Bay, 1998 (1.85:1 non-anamorphic)

2.) Platinum, 2004 (1.33:1)

3.) Echo Bridge, 2007 (1.85:1 anamorphic)

The really dark one is the Platinum disc from 2004 and I kid you not - it's so dark you can't see a damn thing that's going on! It's completely unwatchable. The best is clearly the Echo Bridge release from 2007. Not only is it anamorphic, but it's much brighter and the colors are a lot stronger than the Anchor Bay release.

I agree with this (although I'll be the first to admit that anything with Stacy Keach in it attracts my interest; the man is awesome). But I know that Warner won't license their titles, unfortunately, so it's a moot point.
That is not entirely true:

BCI's release of THE DEVILS

Maybe it's the best, but it's still far from good. The image is stretched horizontally (for the entire duration of the film), and it's a PAL conversion (so motion/movement is off). It's still basically unwatchable, even on smaller TV screens.

haha! Yep, same here! Every year I watch the Black Christmas movies as well as my double feature DVD of SNDN 1 and 2. I remember when this thing got pulled from the theaters. It was kinda big news at the time and all it did was make me (a 10 year old at the time) want to see it all the more.

As soon as my grubby little hands could get on a USA Pictures "big box" VHS release of this I did and I was not disappointed. I love this movie every bit as much as I did the first time I watched it many years ago. I do know that Anchor Bay doesn't have the rights to this anymore. It's either property of Sony or Columbia/Tri-Star. I did some digging and that's all the further I was able to get.

with the release of the quasi-remake "Silent Night" coming out I believe this Christmas I am quite surprised that whichever studio owns the rights isn't dropping this on Blu-Ray or at the bare minimum, re-releasing it on DVD.

Any movie where a topless Linnea Quigley get impaled on deer antlers is a win in my book. Now I want to see that scene in HD like the few seconds of screentime it gets in the beginning of Arrow Blu-Ray releases!!!

Yeah, I remember reading back in 2007 about it being a PAL to NTSC conversion. I still prefer it to the non-anamorphic Anchor Bay disc - I have both, Anchor Bay and Echo Bridge, in my collection. I'd love for this film to get a definitive DVD/Blu-ray release.

I think Anchor Bay acquired the domestic rights for Silent Night, so I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a BD of the original to coincide with it. Even if the rights did revert back to Sony or whoever, I doubt AB will have much trouble getting them back.

Oh yeah, definitely. A proper BD of Prom Night '80 would be heavenly. I just wish Echo Bridge would loosen their stranglehold on it...

With the remake filming at the moment, this could be a possibility if I understand most marketing strategies.

I hope Paula Irvine participates in any special features that might be provided. She has had a low profile for a while but "Liz" is popular among Phantasm fans.

I would absolutely love a Blu-Ray release of Silent Night, Deadly Night. If Sony does own it, I actually would pay $30 for a Twilight Time release (I have it on VHS). And I'd be down with Prom Night as well.

I believe the transfer was sourced from a tape master, so a blu-ray doesn't seem too likely.

I've been waiting for a high def release for awhile now, Scream Factory seems like a great choice to me! Definitely take Hello Mary Lou as well.
The Platinum Disc/Alliance Atlantis release was the deathly dark version, as Scoot79 mentioned above. Despite the Anchor Bay version being non-anamorphic, I am glad I held onto it, I can't handle the PAL conversion of the Echo Bridge release.

You mean the fact that someone posts a request for a movie that was very recently released on dvd by another company - which means that they have the sole rights to release said movie - and that no original materials beyond a video source appear to exist doesn't warrant a smart-ass remark? I disagree.

Scorpion did a great job on that release I thought.
