Received the updated Vincent Price Collection Vol. 1 today...

The Masque of the Red Death curiously has two separate encodes. The "extended cut" is the new 4K Film Foundation restoration and looks fantastic. The American "theatrical" cut is the same master as before. Not sure why they didn't just branch the two cuts, but it does give one a chance to compare the quality of the masters. The theatrical cut has a lower bitrate overall, so it's kind of obvious the restored version is the main item here.

Branching is an extra cost that is a ***** to author and QC.

Personally I'm not a fan of seemless branching. The idea/novelty was interesting when it was unveiled but these days I'd much rather have 2 separate encodes (or preferably 2 separate discs) even when the changes are minor (ie. Candyman).

this 10000000%. sometimes scenes are deleted for a reason. i remember when dvd first came out and i was happy just to see deleted scenes. but the more i’ve watched them, especially if they have commentary, i usually always feel that it was good that they were cut.

I had to make sure I was watching the same movie haha. The ending is so crazy that it makes the first 2/3 of the movie so much better in its insanity hahaha. Its like Linda Blair was taking any part she was offered in the 1980s and she's great in everything.

Agreed. It was a fun surprise on that DVD set.

Apart from the other reasons given in this thread, another one is that Bill Lustig took quite a lot of AB's cult and horror titles with him when they parted ways, since he was the one who actually had brought the rights to the table (which is why some of the OOP AB DVDs were re-released in more or less identical versions under the BU label).

Why they just can't keep it ongoing until it's released is beyond me, but likely it has something to do with their crummy site logistics, which is really abysmal for a corporation their size.
Hey PE, this is completely bizarre, I got another "Approved Delivery Date" for WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST last night. And I just checked on Target's site and my order is supposedly still live.

I'll let you know here if I get a cancellation notice.

Watch out as just yesterday I too was asked by them to approve another delay of COLOSSAL, got the confirmation for the approval and then today the notice of cancellation. Bizarre is definitely the word, but in a world of algorithms and bots, it's all starting to seem perfectly normal.

I hope your order stays active! Thanks for keeping us posted.

That doesn't fill me with confidence...I have a feeling mine will have the same fate...

Can't wait to revisit this film, always loved it as a kid and even then couldn't believe how kind of dark they went with his mangled face.

Hey guys, I was hoping to get some help settling something for me. I recently bought Halloween II on blu-ray. I have the big complete collection set, but I always wanted the individual Halloween II and III, especially with the new artwork and slipcovers. I got Halloween II on eBay (I'm cautious on eBay, but being in Canada, my avenues for older, OOP and especially with slipcovers is limited), and it mostly looks fine. Discs look legit. But the reverse side insert (the one that has the original poster art for its cover) and the 2nd disc are looking off to me.

The first image is from the "new artwork" side of the insert. Looks good, nice and clear font on the credits. The second image is from the reverse side with the "poster artwork". The credits look more faded and not so clear. You can especially notice on the bottom line where it says "Cover Artwork".

And here's the disc art for the "Television Version" DVD. The first pic is good, looks nice and clear. The second pic, the line of words at the bottom of the disc starts off faded.

I know generally older releases from Scream Factory aren't perfect, but buying it from eBay is just giving me red flags and I'd appreciate any help if anyone else can confirm if this suggests it's fake or if it's legit. Also, the seller is legit, they're in Canada too, 100% positive feedback, etc.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

You know, I like to think I'm a patient man. But really Shout? 11 days since I placed an order for Attack of the Crab Monsters and Deathsport and it has not shipped yet?

SMH.
Whatever.

I was feeling like spending money while on their website today, for the Vincent Price collection #1. F that.
I'll get it somewhere else.

I hear you. It's only been 8 days since I ordered, but would be nice if it shipped out soon. I'm hoping they reserve stock once orders are placed and it doesn't get cancelled if sold out in the mean time...Makes it harder to order from them when they are one of the worst companies to ship in a timely manner.

Which has been exasperated by Covid.
All other places I order from (Kino, BM, HB, GHV, Ronin, etc.) don't seem to have a problem shipping out in a timely manner currently.

Looks legit, I think you're just being paranoid. Doubt anyone would go out of their way to make a fake insert or disc print.

The mastering on the original 2012 release is identical to the boxset version, IIRC, so there's a strong likelihood they'll have the same matrix/mastering codes. I'd compare the backs of the discs, to see if they match those from the boxset. If they match then it's extremely likely to be legit.

Matrix/mastering codes should look something like this:
