This is a very strong month and I know I won't be able to pickup everything all at once. I'll probably get Brotherhood of the Wolf and the Dead Zone. Probably also Chamber of Horrors. Stranger and Eight Legged Freaks will prob have to wait. But i'll own all 5 eventually.

I've been feeling this way for a while. It seems like all I buy are Blu-rays that were released years ago, and are now dirt cheap.

Most people say I should start buying the titles I like - again - on 4K UHD, but that's not gonna happen. The upgrade cost far outweighs the benefits (for me, at least) and Blu-ray is the last physical media I'm going to buy.

I guess I'm pretty much done. Damn.

Sounds like you're still a collector then. You don't have to buy everything to be a collector.

Seems fair, also seems possible that it’s the old Castle remakes theory. Gothika was their highest grossing movie so maybe they’re putting it off? The Reaping is all around hated but I enjoyed it and with all the others they’re doing I’d personally love to see a Collector’s Edition of both.

Plus, my thinking a movie is hated is clearly no indication for whether it gets a Scream Factory release as I always thought people roundly hated that House of Wax remake and I’d never heard anyone say a good word about Black Christmas 2006 until yesterday lol

Very true. And another benefit - it frees up Warner Archive to release mostly non-horror stuff. Every little helps given how big the Warner catalogue is.

Someone please tell me they'll be at Sdcc this year... assuming there is one... I'm craving the 14 to 15 lineup of titles...

There isn't a proper SDCC this year but they are having a mini version over Thanksgiving weekend in November and everyone online is mad about it.

Definitely in for Brotherhood of the Wolf and The Dead Zone but will be passing on the rest, especially House of Wax, which I thought was garbage and one of the weaker Dark Castle films.

Was Ghost Ship a remake? I don’t remember how well Gothika did in theaters, but it’s always a possibility if they think it would do well. I was a bit surprised that Ghost Ship got a collector’s edition because I don’t remember that one receiving much praise either. Of course, I usually find myself picking up almost any collector’s edition Scream Factory releases.

I’ve always been a fan of House of Wax, but I haven’t seen the original. I did purchase the Vincent Price version from the last Warner Archives sale, and it came in the other day. So I’m looking forward to finally seeing it. After the last Black Christmas remake, I’ve found a new appreciation for Black Christmas 2006. I revisited it a few months ago for the first time since seeing it in theaters and enjoyed it quite a bit.

It’s not a remake, but heavily influenced by Death Ship from 1980. I’ve been excited by the Dark Castle releases if only for their aesthetic appeal (some of the best most colorful designs SF has done imo, you could practically see them passed out for Trick or treats), but having seen Thirteen Ghosts and not being a huge fan of that, I’m holding off on Ghost Ship and House on Haunted Hill until I see them. The Reaping and especially Gothika are the ones I’d be interested in, but after looking into this House of Wax “remake”, I decided to go for the blind buy lol

Was already ordering The Dead Zone and Event Horizon and a good order is always better with one blind buy

I’ll have to check out this 2006 Black Christmas then as well, at the very least it’s got Mary Elizabeth Winstead 🤤

MEW, Lacey Chabert, Michelle Trachtenberg. Movie is worth watching for the ladies alone. Also the deleted dildo scene is hilarious.

And with the Paramount and especially Warner vaults offering many possibilities too, there isn't really a need to resort to double-dipping on titles for the sake of it.
Different strokes for different folks, but the presentation reviews for both Gothika and The Reaping are far lower than the presentations for previous releases of at least Ghost Ship. Also, Gothika seems to be out of print? Would rather spend $30 for a new SF edition rather than find the oop copy.

Edit: Looking at the box office grosses, Gothika is far and away Dark Castle’s highest earning film. Don’t mind me, just making the argument for myself and whatever Gothika fans might be hoping for a Scream release. The Reaping almost certainly has a much lower interest, but if we’re going by theatrical releases of Dark Castle movies, these would be the next two up and I’d buy both (hint hint SF execs lol)

I would love to see Cheech & Chong's Nice Dream (plus Things Are Tough All Over too) Blu-ray in the future... love that movie Blood In Blood Out but it still own with Disney and does not license out their title.

2006 BC was awesome. Great lighting (really use the Christmas lights and colors like Sispiria), fun kills, skin cookies,. The typical film you go meh when it came out and then 20 years later wonder what you were thinking.

Criterion made The Rock, and that was Disney. Kino also did Camp Nowhere (Hollywood Pictures).
