With the Chamber of Horrors announcement, I really hope that means they can put out 1967's IT with Roddy McDowell.

My dad taped that movie off TV when I was younger and it absolutely terrified me. The golem character completely freaked me out.

Which is funny too because by that time, I was already watching TCM and modern horror films at that point which is surprising to say the least that IT was the one that scared me.

For years, I never remembered the movie title until I found the tape recording and looked it up with unfortunately realizing it was not a very easily attainable film.

I would love to see it again with a fresh transfer.

You name ANY shitty horror movie from the early 80s to the mid-00s, and I guarantee you it has an inexplicable "cult following".

I am unsure but what about all the Miramax and Touchtone pictures. I would assume many were distributed by other other then them inhouse. Not sure though but Disney has a large catalog. Or maybe they sold the rights to those.

I absolutely hated Black Christmas 2019. I absolutely expect to love it in 2049.

For what it's worth, "Lee Jones" confirmed, in The Official Vinegar Syndrome Fan Group, that Abby is owned by MGM.

It's someone else, not Lee Jones, saying that it still suffers from legal troubles dating back to when AIP had it. (I know nothing about this film or what legal troubles it had/has, that is just the understanding I got from those links). I'd post the quote but I don't know how people from private groups feel about that stuff...

Abby was one of the titles on a Cease and Desist letter I got from MGM back in the 90s when I was offering rare videos. The lady from their legal department was actually very nice to me (and seemed like a nice person).

I predict issues involving Abby may actually get resolved in a few years.

The Christmas lights and colors was my strongest memory about it from when I saw it theatrically. Although I wasn't a huge fan at the time, I watched it last year for the second time and did like that they had some ties to the original fim as well. Not quite 20 years between viewings but I had a similar reaction.

I read an interview with an actress that was a friend of Roddy McDowall, who said after he finished shooting IT, he had some posters and gave her one but added SH before the title on the poster.
IT is available on a double feature dvd MOD disk which I have along with the Shuttered Room.

Interesting. I figured that if MGM did own it they'd need clearance from WB, so Scream naturally seemed like the best bet. Jones' comments don't sound in the least optimistic and yet for some reason they give me hope. At least he didn't say there's no chance whatsoever.

Jones' only comment was "Universal owns Great White and MGM owns Abby" so it's hard to read anything optimistic or pessimistic into that.

I got a question for those who buy a lot of Scream titles. Or at least know a lot about their releases.

What's they're most dark/disturbing/violent title they own/released?

I can't think if they have anything close to something like what Grindhouse Releasing has released.

I have many Scream releases and I don't think any are exceptionally dark or disturbing.
Scream is the most "mainstream" of the boutique labels.
The only title that comes to mind is The House That Jack Built.

I wouldn't necessarily take these as a given. We know the original 5 Universal CE's was all Shout had from that batch, so it would require another deal with Universal, and I'm not convinced they have much left for Scream to go after. Plus Paranoiac and Nightmare would likely be tough sells as CE's for Scream. I think Captain Clegg has a stronger shout, but even then it lacks the obvious 'monster' that the other Universal Hammer CE's had.

Scream Factory, in my opinion, releases horror movies that are more fun and entertaining rather than dark, disturbing, and violent. But some that come to mind may be The Poughkeepsie Tapes and 8MM. The IFC titles may provide more of what you're looking for. I don't pick up that many IFC titles, but Raw, Rabid, and The Human Centipede collection may fit what you're looking for. I haven't seen these, other than the original Human Centipede, so I'm just going by what I've seen in the trailers.
