Does anyone know of any "low" prices for the "oop" Galaxy of Horror? Seems as if I waited a month or 2 too long. I hate that there is no rhyme or reason to how long a title will stay in print. None of us are rich enough to buy all the boutique label movies we want all at once.

A number of the WB / Shout! Factory collaborations credit Warner Brothers for the scan, and Duplitech for the restoration (which I would assume is being financed by Shout! Factory). I didn't see these credits on the latest batch of releases, but I'd assume this is still the case.

Like you I don't want a raft of 4K UHD re-releases, though obviously we know Army of Darkness is coming. But given how Scream have gone about this, I don't think they're going to go 4K mad. We've seen two so far, the last in January, and both of those utilized restorations already done elsewhere. Following this I reckon The Fog has a very good chance, but the rest will obviously depend on how well they've done for Scream. Halloween 2 and 3 seem strong candidates, but beyond those? I'm not sure, as they've let a few notable MGM properties go. As for the Friday films, it may well be that Paramount have hung onto the 4K rights. I believe someone said that Criterion were unable to release a UHD of The Elephant Man even if they wanted to, because Paramount did not grant them 4K rights. For some reason I'm not feeling a Nightmare on Elm Street set is on the cards for this year, but we'll see (for a project that big I reckon something would have leaked by now, as with the Friday set). That said, there are many goodies from Warner Bros and even Paramount still on offer to deliver a memorable Halloween schedule. Hell, they might even surprise us with a key independent acquisition or two (come on Alligator). Last edited by BarnDoor; 05-15-2021 at 12:02 PM. |

I'd be disappointed if Friday the 13th rears it's head yet again but I wouldn't mind a Halloween collection re-release featuring new cuts of Parts 4 and 5 using the recently discovered footage. Although I do think a new collection may no longer be possible due to the rights being with multiple studios. I got the impression that last collaboration was a one and done.

That’s so disappointing. Have it on pre-order for 32.99$ right now; with importing and handling fees I’m well over 50$. And they not even can use a proper Blu Ray case anymore? As a high priced boutique label? That’s just a slap in the face for every customer, in my opinion...

While we already know that Army of Darkness is getting a 4K release, I also think we will see The Fog get a 4K release since it was one of the Studio Canal 4K releases. But if anything gets a 4K upgrade, I believe we will see Halloween 2 and 3 on 4K from Scream Factory. Universal supposedly was working on The Thing for 4K, but if they don't release it themselves, then I'm sure Scream Factory will. But I would love to see something new get a 4K release. As much as I would love to see a Nightmare on Elm Street box set this year, I believe something would have leaked by now. We knew about the Friday the 13th set long before it was announced, and each month everyone was just waiting on it to finally be announced so we could see what they had planned. As far as Nightmare on Elm Street goes, there hasn't been anything, but I would be very happy if it gets announced, and I would love it if it included 4K copies as well. |

I think people will have to realize that after the F13 leak, Shout/Scream will be EXTRA careful to make sure “insiders” nor talent (cast/crew) won’t repeat the same mistake. They know how anticipated Elm Street is, and how profitable it would be for them. No way would they let their biggest Fall announcement get ruined so soon after it happened the last time.

Probably because of the surprise factor for the annual Fall announcements. How many “That’s it?” cries did we hear last year when everyone knew Friday was coming but the other announcements were considered underwhelming? Maybe they really want this one to pack a wallop? Honestly, this is all just speculation as to why nothing has leaked if Nightmare on Elm Street is really coming. Or rather foolish hopes that it is coming at all. That said, it is logical to conclude that Scream Factory would tighten the reins of information after such a leak happened so soon previously, simply to control the situation and release information as they see fit.

Which brings me to my next question. Do you think SF will offer two different sets for NOES? one that offers FvsJ and one that doesn't since some people might not want to double dip on that film? |
