Yeah, this immediately struck me as a cost-saving measure that they decided to course-correct after fan backlash.

Yeah, I don't for one second buy this 'screw up'. It's a straight penny pinching move.

For me it's not a biggie, after collecting over the years I've come to have a box full of nice empty backup cases. I just switch them out. Got them from stuff I got rid of and buying bulk empties cheap once in a while incase of broken cases plus hate those cases with the flap snap.

Not sure if they can get them but suggested Pontypool to Shout (never had a US Blu-ray release) and Don Mckellar's Last Night.

Usually these cost-saving tactics last a while before the effects of customer backlash begins to take on enough significance for them to revert back to the way things were. If they really are going back to regular cases next month that sure was fast. I hope it really was backlash - that means they actually do listen to us. In any case (no pun intended), my black cases erase the ugliness of the blue ones automatically so I'm not as affected by any of this

Pontypool is a great recommendation. I have the UK Blu but that's a film that deserves a US release.

James Wans 2015 film "Demonic" could also use a US blu ray release as well. No idea why that one never made it here either. I'd snatch up Demonic in a heart beat.

I've been thinking about getting some black cases for certain titles. I've got a few clear viva elites leftover from switching all my Scorpion titles to them. Not sure if I'm feeling up to switching all my Shout! titles over just yet lol

I honestly don't particularly care all that much but I do find it amusing that this only seems to impact Scream Factory despite them typically using what is arguably the most common cases in the industry compared to Severin (black) Vinegar Syndrome (Clear), Arrow (thicc), etc.
Didn't something similar happen with Arrow a few months ago?

They ran out of the clear white cases, which resulted in older titles being shipped in blue cases for a little while. They never had any eco box's that I recall though. I think color of case is significantly different (and not as bad as) cheaper cases.

Anyone have a pic of the full Stephen King Double Feature Misery/Carrie cover? I don't need a high quality scan just a pic of the full cover. I cant seem to find a pic of the spine anywhere

I just ordered another batch of clear cases to replace some of my Scorpion blue ones. They make even turds look better

I've considered switching over some of the Scream Factory cases to the clear cases but then the slipcovers would obscure them. I'm saving these for non-slipcovered Blu's from Code Red/Scorpion. Anybody who uses those ugly boxy blue ones will eventually be replaced.

I've seriously debated this too. I loved the clear cases in the Friday set. They look more clean than the original blue, in my opinion anyway.

Here you go. Sorry the image of the reverse cover has some glare, the spine is blank on that side.

The were also the only label greatly affected by Covid. Must be terrible luck.

Weren't all the California based labels having problems during lockdown though?
I think I remember Severin having issues as well.
I would assume the one-man shows that are CR/DF didn't have the same issues.
Severin has terrible QA as well and half their slips fit way too tight.

Any info on this?

Has anyone contacted them about the cases for replacement?

They aren't going to issue replacements for eco cases. They informed someone that inquired about the cases earlier this month that they were a mistake and that future releases wouldn't be using them. In the grand scheme of things it's an incredibly minor annoyance at best. Let's not pester them over something like this.

As I said a few days ago... if it is a secret cost-saving measure that they just won’t own up to, I’d say that’s cause for alarm. The fact that they would have to trim costs by using Eco cases isn’t necessarily a good thing.

That said, I personally do believe it’s just a mistake. We need to give these boutique labels some slack, even the “big” ones like Shout! Factory. It’s not like they’re manufacturing cases and artwork themselves in their head office and packaging every release. The order gets sent to a factory and shipped from a distribution center. Mistakes can happen in the pipeline.
