OK, the Alone in the Dark artwork is bad, but it's the usual floating head, use everything and the kitchen sink format. Not surprising.
But then, wow, those 5 Halloween cover arts. On what planet would any company approve those? They look like pages ripped out of a coloring book of a 2-year-old. They honestly couldn't commission ANYTHING better than that??? They're embarrassing. I know, 'you can always reverse it to the original poster art' which I always do, but I usually keep the slips on the cases as well to be complete. Not with these! The slips will go straight into a box in the closet, and I may even put black paper under the case's slip so that when I open the case to get the discs out, I don't accidentally see these arts ever again. |

I’ll always prefer original artwork, but I kind of like these Halloween covers. They’re finally not just a messy collage of floating heads, but instead a well-composed, consistent image with a central figure and utilizing the original film logos. Season of the Witch looks particularly nice.

I'm not crazy about the artwork, but if we get the original artwork on the reversible sleeve, it's fine by me. I'll probably end up just putting them inside the box set, anyway.
My biggest concern with them is that the others won't get matching artwork, so it'll be weird having five of them films with matching slips and the others doing their own thing. |

But I have to agree, the artwork on the covers is so inferior to the original poster artwork. They're reminiscent of a kid who designs as hobby and is trying to start his own line of HALLOWEN T-shirts from his basement. I don't mean to sound so opinionated but I have a B.A. in graphic design and over the last 30 years as Director of Operations and Head of Delivery, I managed hundreds of designers, art directors and thousands of advertising campaigns. I thought Shout set a precedent with THEY LIVE and PRINCE OF DARKNESS by committing to the original poster art for their 4K UHD slips and inside art and abandoned the idea of commissioning new, cringey artwork. I can see why he's frustrated, but in this case, the information came from reputable retailers that clearly were told they were happening? If they want it to remain a secret, they should wait to send information to retailers until they announce it, imo.

I understand being frustrated, but if it's a consistent issue with one person, which he seems to imply, should that one person be a retailer, stop letting them know before you announce it yourself. Why not make the announcement before sending out info of the releases to retailers?
I'll be getting all 5, pre-ordering no less, it doesn't really effect their sales if they get announced later. They would've gotten the same heat about artwork if they announced it first. I can see why he is irked, but it doesn't change me as a consumers opinion who announces it first. |

Maybe tell retailers to hold back pre-order listings, or don't submit them to retailers until after announcements. Plenty of labels do this and rarely ever have leaks. If they're publicly available, they are fair game. Period.

Anyone know how this 4K release of Halloween will differ from the non-Shout Factory release a few years ago? Is it a different remaster? More special features?

At the risk of exaggerating, the horror genre will probably be what keeps physical media alive for a while. There's a reason horror films tend to be big sellers for the boutique labels, or why their collector's editions of horror titles tend to sell out first. Back in Twilight Time's heyday, their horror announcements were selling out during the pre-order phase and would be their first titles to have more than 3000 units pressed.

And sure maybe Dawn of the Discs doesn't need to mention it. But if it's public info that got spilled accidently by retailers, then why slam the people on forums. Or people who relay the info to us. People get excited for things, maybe get faster to the plate to announce. We all know when Arrow and Criterion announce things. And sometimes Arrow titles get spoiled on the Thursday. But that doesn't stop them. hell, Criterion will announce some titles way in advance. Don't bother them. Scream/Shout need to pick up their game. It seems like a problem when people who follow them don't know when announcements for things happens. (I would also like to add that their social media presence is bad. They need to hire someone, if they haven't already.) |

Amazon is constantly leaking their, and other studio, releases yet they don't take action which leads one to believe they don't care. Jeff needs to stop blaming everyone else and start blaming the actual offenders 9 (retailers, Amazon :cough: ).

yeah my thoughts exactly, don't blame Dawn (who he's clearly referring too) and focus on the public sites that any Joe could see the listings on. But there is clearly some previous animosity here haha

Unfortunately this is a familiar tale with Scream Factory - you'd think by now they'd be used to it, or at least try and rectify their practices so it doesn't occur. No good blaming DawnoftheDiscs. I can't think of another label who has their thunder stolen anywhere near as much in terms of announcements. Maybe if they set a regular date for announcements every month this could be avoided? I mean they might leak an hour or so in advance, but at least not days.
