Looks like Kino is picking up the shout license to these films since they released IOTBS, misery, and without warning.

  • Madman has been released on UHD and has had two 4K masters created since 2015.
  • The Keep hasn't had a domestic release since VHS / Laserdisc era and isn't available, anywhere, beyond SD.
  • Nightmare on Elm Street and The Exorcist aren't available in 4K and seemingly haven't been remastered, in over a decade.
  • Dawn of the Dead is available on UHD, but only as an import; it hasn't been in-print, domestically, in over a decade.

The fact patterns in each scenario are totally different, but it's batshit crazy, nonetheless.

We also live in a world in which THE ABYSS hasn't even hit Blu-ray, even with the director's "high tech guru" persona.

This isn't physical media, but shockingly, there's a 720p version of The Keep streaming on Pluto right now! I've never seen the film look better.

An avaricious land developer, played by Steve Railsback, is on the fast track to unimaginable wealth, keeping the city mayor in his back pocket, quietly discarding carcinogenic DNA-altering chemicals from his corporation into the city's wastewater system, and overtly forcing the lower and middle class residents off of a Los Angeles lake park to make way for his lucrative real estate venture. Unfortunately for our sleazy business tycoon, an alligator that has grown to massive size in the contaminated sewers is tired of feeding on homeless derelicts and is now eager to eat the rich.

After failing to convince the mayor to close down a crowded lakeside carnival fair, a local police detective, played by Joseph Bologna, his wife, played by Dee Wallace, his partner, played by Woody Brown, and a Cajun big game hunter, played by Richard Lynch, are left to their own devices in order to stop the murderous mutated reptile menace from emerging from the lake to exact its own bloody brand of anti-gentrification.

Instead of breaking its own new ground, the 1991 sequel, Alligator II: The Mutation, directed by Jon Hess (Watchers), simply retreads its 1980 predecessor, Alligator, even to the point of recycling footage of the titular creature from the first film. Since I happen to love the killer crocodilian sub-genre of horror, however, I have a soft spot for this low-budget relic from the heyday of VHS rental stores.

Railsback (Lifeforce), Wallace (The Howling, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial), Lynch (Invasion U.S.A.), and Bologna (Blame It on Rio) are the main attractions here, since the alligator itself is hardly an example of state-of-the-art special effects. Soap opera star Holly Gagnier is also a welcome presence as the mayor's daughter who is desperate to keep her father from rubbing elbows with corrupt con-men. Kane Hodder, who would later star as Jason Voorhees in several Friday the 13th sequels, is a fun addition as an ill-fated hunter.

Audiences should be forewarned that Alligator II: The Mutation includes a wildly unrealistic plot element. In real life, our police detective hero would never be able to park his car directly at the front door of city offices.

This Scream Factory Blu-ray sports a good-looking presentation of a main feature that functions as a serviceable chasedown after the first Alligator.

I’m sure all shouts releases that has 4K transfers can easily qualify for a 5k release. Same goes for a 2k scan if it has high demand to go back to the neg.

I want the exorcist 2 but it has a 2K scan but I’m sure they can easily upgrade it to 4K and have it ready for the new film.

Just got my Sword and Sorcerer 4K delivered. I'm not big into these types of movies but I do enjoy some of them, like BEASTMASTER (personal childhood favorite). This one was a blind buy - at least I think I've never seen it. The title of the film sounds awfully familiar. Maybe it's one of those movies I only saw bits and pieces of on TV when I was 8 or 9. If Shout saw fit to release a UHD of this then I guess it must be one of the most popular of the genre.

It was in regular rotation on basic cable/local stations in the mid-late 80s along with Beastmaster and Red Sonja. So if that was when you watched Beastmaster, you probably did see at least parts of Sword And The Sorcerer.

If so, you’ll probably remember the gloriously WTF sword once you see it in action again.

Got one of those, "We miss you" come back and shop with us emails today. I feel like they would be more tempting if they put a 10% off $50 or more type code. Just putting that out there in case anyone from SF reads these...

The hero has a three-bladed sword that shoots its own blades as projectiles. Like, come on... you don't have to be 7-years old to know that's awesome.

I saw The Sword and the Sorcerer, presumably edited, on basic TV during the mid-1980s when I was in sixth or seventh grade.

I remember enjoying it. I also remember it being insanely erotic at the time, to my puberty age self, at least, with a lot of barely clothed women. I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out from my adult perspective.

Okay, I'm not into the whole fantasy or sword and sorcery genres, but that just sounds AWESOME! and I totally kinda want to see it now just for that sword.

The last few weeks I've made 2 trips to 2nd & Charles and traded in a total of like 100 Blu-rays to make room for the 4Ks being released of older films I'm getting and I've gotten like $150 store credit. I took like the duplicates I had and kept the better versions, took Blu-rays that I have the 4Ks of. Some Blu-rays that 4Ks are coming. And I used to buy Blu-rays *just* to buy them and I unloaded all that to make room for my most treasured collection.
Made room for like all the 4Ks of Dario Argento, John Carpenter, box sets like Friday the 13th, Phantasm, The Omen, The Fly.... Etc.
I've started being more conscious of what I'm buying.

I'm doing the same, 33% 4K now and probably will dump more blurays soon.

Next time someone wants to sell 100 blu-ray's for $150 be sure to send me a PM first.

I will buy the next lot for more $$$ than that. 100 blu-rays easily packs well into a Banker's Box which can be purchased individually and shipped for about $10. I'll cover fees, taxes, shipping etc. and making it worth your effort. Plus you will be supporting a fine member of this forum.

Welp, pretty upset about this. I'm glad they are fixing whatever the issue is before release, but I'm upset because I did what I normally do NOT do and ordered multiple other items that were coming out in same month of April on one order to save shipping at Diabolik. So the one I'm annoyed about is The Witch Second Sight CE, now I"ll have to wait a freaking whole month+ to get that too. Think if I email them they may allow me to split that out and pay the extra $5 shipping?

They are pretty cool about things like that. I wouldn't surprised if they let you do that. You will most likely have to pay the extra $5 via Paypal. A polite email goes a long way. Can't hurt for sure.
