Getting a free $5 out of it, not bad.

I wish I could agree about THE PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE probably coming in 3-D. However, Bob Furmanek of the 3-D Film Archive stated some time ago that Warner was not too interested in 3-D anymore.

I got the 4k player... I just got to get passed by entry level TCL TV. About to make the jump to mid level.

Absolute bummer! But perhaps something can be worked out; maybe not do it in 3D. But there have been other recent 3D restorations such as The Mad Magician (1954) and Flesh For Frankenstein (1973), and several others within the past three years (not counting the first Covid year), so we'll see.

Just listed my Platoon bluray on eBay. There's only crumbs left after shipping and fees so I'm trying to be pretty picky on upgrades.

Did you sell yours all together?

I listed them all separately. I still have some that I’m holding on to like big trouble, critters set, omen set, fly set Cause fox deal with Disney.

Also listed black Christmas and silent night deadly night since I’m sure they will hit 4k coke the holiday season.

Phantom of the Paradise is Fox as well, so most likely never a 4K upgrade.

I’ve always been fascinated by people selling their old
Blus. Would you mind sharing what you typically get for them?

Not me you asked but an example: When Heat 4K was announced a few weeks ago I sold mine on eBay for I think it was $12.25 (and this is on the high-end for used older blurays, unless OOP or boutique).

After eBay's 17% fee, $3.19 in media mail shipping, and a .50$ bubble mailer, you're left with $6.50 net. That's not counting the time, the printer ink for labels, and gas for trips to the post office which add up over time. It's not much, but it can take a solid chunk off the upgrade price.

I'm already used to it so I sell a lot on eBay for all of my upgrades. But it's not for everyone. Some upgrades can only net you a buck or two, and for most that's not worth the trouble.

Selling stuff on the trade forum here is better because there's no 17% fee, but then again it's not very active at all and it might have taken me months (or longer...) to sell a bluray of Heat. Can't beat eBay's exposure.

thank you for your response... and you're answer is what I was expecting to hear---
it's just not worth it for me--
plus-- as of late-- I don't mind keeping my extra copy on many titles--
some 4k discs don't include the blu ray, some don't have the extras, etc etc

other titles I just give to friends...

Very true. Plus, keeping extras just to have back-up cases isn't a bad idea either. I'm a bit short on space at the moment so dumping old versions helps me in that regard.

Sometimes though you get lucky and a 4K UHD is announced, and the OOP blu ray or DVD is going for a lot so you get $20-$30 back and it pays fully for the upgrade. Although I admit that I do feel guilty about that sometimes, maybe the buyer doesn't know a 4K is coming...

I'm itching to unload my copies of the Sleepaway Camp trilogy because I just know upgrades are around the corner...or are they? That's the risk we have to take I guess. The only way there WON'T be an upgrade for these is that the rights owner(s) become dicks all of a sudden and decide hold out for an extortion price. Not all Scream Factory titles sell like hotcakes, though. It took me a while to sell EFNY and Escape From L.A. and they only went for a few bucks.

Really digging that artwork for THE FOG but I'm a sucker for original art so I guess I'll go for this after all. Time to unload my Studiocanal set.

It's starting to become ridiculous that A Simple Plan (and The Gift) hasn't been released in NA.
