Doesn't Full Moon still have the rights? I emailed 88 Films about Tourist Trap a couple of months ago:

Yes. The first post in this thread is regularly updated to list release dates, formats, and titles that have been nixed by Cliff.

Actually the DVD didnt sell very well, under 10K, so there is no way I could get a BD approved.

Ah well, I had assumed they had fared better. People are really missing out then - the two films are really the first 'modern' vampire films, with a perfect balance of humor, horror, and atmosphere. Two of the best vampire films ever made, in my opinion.

How about this one, Cliff: I've always been a fan of the Blind Dead series. Any chance of a Blu-Ray collection of all four films?

People always remember Carrie for the shock ending when Count Yorga did it six years beforehand and apparently it unnerved the hell out of audiences at the time.

Major bummer about no BD release.

This was a title I suggested many moons ago in the thread. If Scream Factory or another North American company doesn't plan on releasing Tourist Trap I will definitely import the Japanese release.

Agreed. Disappointing to see so many titles get turned down because the DVDs sold poorly. People are really missing out on a lot of great flicks. Maybe once Scream has ran out of titles to release they can give some of them a second chance. Seems like since Bluray there are a lot more people interested in cult and horror titles. I think just about any movie released by Scream should sell well enough now. They have become like Criterion where they have a loyal fan base that has to own own them all. Low sales numbers on DVD are also holding up a lot of Blue Underground titles as well, including highly requested titles like Don't Torture a Duckling and The Blind Dead Collection.

As mentioned above, I believe Bill said these didn't sell as well as hoped on DVD. If that is true then I would assume Scream will pass on them. Again more titles people skipped out on DVD that are exceptionally great films. If it's not from the 80s it gets no love from the fans unfortunately. That's the reason apparently there aren't more Price, Hammer and Amicus titles on Bluray. Such a shame!

I am probably the oldest person on this thread, but I remember when it cost almost 400 bucks to get VHS tapes. with inflation, that is very expensive.

Also, DVD were not the cheapest to manufacture and digitalize the film and digi-beta, etc. was expensive.

The prices went down, and then the risk did too. Im sure the same will happen to blu-ray production, the price will go down along with the risk of spending too much on a product that not that many will buy.

Maybe we will all see Yorga on BD some other time.

Perhaps Arrow or Second Sight in the UK, but Scream was really the only hope for a US release. *Sob*

Edit: Consulting FilmAf reveals that both US releases are OOP, and there haven't been any international releases at all. I shot off emails to Arrow and Second Sight though.

Are companies factoring in DVD sales numbers in their decision to go Blu? That's a big mistake - DVD as a format, while still widely used, is on it's way out. Please don't judge a film's high-definition worthiness based on how many DVDs it sold. People are waiting for their favorite movies to be released on Blu-ray, not DVD. Also, if something sold poorly on DVD in 2009 that doesn't mean it won't do well on Blu-ray today.

I agree with that. I also think its funny when I see that Cliff says no to titles, we still have hope "Maybe it will come out later on / someday"
I was reading the comment of the Count Yorga movies...
I guess it still could be possible but not with Shout Factory.
Without Warning has never been tested in the USA market, and I will continue to push for it (and according to Jeff Nelson, it is highly requested) and Im not the only one. I really think this would be the dark horse and sell super well

You were probably one of the members that supplied me with the name of this movie, as I couldn't recall it, and gave a brief description. That was several months ago.
Anyway, I do remember this film being discussed in this thread and thought it was interesting that Japan is releasing it. That always gives me hope when a non-US BD is released in another region.

2 questions:
  • Why wouldn't a company factor in DVD sales numbers into their business decision of whether to release a film on Blu-Ray or not?
  • What data would you propose to be more relevant?
