I found an Alligator 4k for like 24.99 back in Sep before I knew SF would discount it in the Oct sale and on the same haul I found Severin's Don't go in the house for 20 which also was a good pre-sale price, both used.

Again, has nothing to do with Scream Factory. It's the pressing plant and its quality control.

Why doesn't Vinegar Syndrome have this problem? Every disc I receive from them is spotless.

Then SF should either complain to have the issues addressed or find another manufacturer.

I would assume those are pressed in the same place, but maybe not? Criterion and other labels have been having the same issue.

VS' UHD Blu-ray discs appear to be manufactured in Germany per the Mould SID code. The odd thing with their Blu-rays is that they're missing the Mould SID code.

They very likely have complained but it’s also extremely unlikely they’re going to share whatever discussions and negotiations regarding the issue are going on publicly. Depending on what sort of contracts are involved there may not be an immediate option to just dump the manufacturer.

I'm either really unlucky or some of you aren't checking your discs.

Army of Darkness - Several deep scratches on all 4 discs
Black Christmas - All 3 discs have light to medium scratches
The Howling - Both discs had some light to deep scratches
Red Dawn - Greasy Gunk and Circular scratches all over
Candyman - Deep circular scratches Bought the Arrow edition Pristine discs

Think i'll stop buying SF releases for awhile..
which sucks because I like their releases.

I would say stop checking for scratches as that’s the way it’s going to be. Only worry about it if it doesn’t work.

Checking my discs? Never, unless it's necessary. Ignorance is bliss.

I guess I'm lucky. I've been checking my recent purchases, and I don't find any scratches on them.

The only scratched discs I’ve had so far from SF was Trick r Treat which they replaced. Everything else has been good thankfully.

My recent purchase of Black Christmas had scratches on the 4K disc. I sent it back immediately for an exchange. I will only buy Shout releases from Bezos...to be on the safe side.

Contacted Shout with a few questions, figured I'd crosspost it here from the Dawn of the Dead 4K Thread.

"We've been working tirelessly with our manufacturer to reduce the scratched disc issue. Dealing with it has been a huge issue this year."

Glad to actually get what felt like a human response from them, they answered that and 2 other questions for me. Glad they are aware, and hopefully putting some pressure on the pressing plant. They and all other disc producers should be doing the same.

I've been doing the same for a while... easy hassle free exchanges with Amazon...

I do the same with Criterion releases because they are the second worst label (behind SF) for scratched discs right out of the box...

I do this as well, but my only fear for this is, I've heard horror stories about Amazon terminating people's accounts for "excessive returns". I'm sure it's the people truly abusing the return policy, and not things like the scratched discs, but it does concern me.

I heard that too, but they'd have to be doing it all the time or doing something shady I'd assume. I've returned hundreds of things over time, sometimes I've returned the same thing three or more times. 99% of the time because of Amazon employee incompetence though. Things damaged, etc. Never have even gotten any warning or anything. Might be how much you spend too. If you're a regular buyer (and keep most things), you probably are safer. I wouldn't worry about it.
