I dunno it takes 2 seconds to open a disc and look at it.

I’m curious, do you and the folks who liked your post return every single UHD with even the lightest scratches? The kind that are only visible until bright light when holding the disc at just the right angle? Because that’s what I’d have to do to avoid nasty surprise playback errors on my temperamental UB820. Sometimes the player can handle a disc like that, sometimes it can’t. My Criterion Shaft UHD for example looked fine upon initial inspection but was a pixelated mess on the UB820. Turned out it had microscopic scratching. Nothing serious enough to cause playback problems when I later tested it on my PS5 (which doesn’t do Dolby Vision and has no HDR optimizer, making it less than ideal as a UHD player for me) but the UB820 wasn’t so forgiving.

So at this point I make a point of watching my UHD’s as quickly as possible regardless of how pristine they look at initial inspection, especially when they were manufactured at the inferior Mexican plant. Simple enough to make an exchange one purchase at a time at BBY or Amazon but rushing through ten movies from the Shout sale and dealing with their allegedly difficult exchange policy wasn’t worth the savings for me.

100% I return every new disc that has a scratch. I pay way too much money for these releases and do so because I like the archival aspect of physical media.

I didn't pay for a scratched disc.

You're not wrong, this method can only scale for so many discs and it's still scratch Russian roulette. Granted I just do a spot check and I watch the stuff that has visible marks, and I happened to only have one damaged disc out of the whole bunch this round.

Since I watched the movie I just filmed the spots where it stuttered or got stuck with my phone for the sake of speeding things up with the replacement process, but this is absolutely not a reasonable solution if you end up with multiple scratched movies. If it's consistently turning into a chore, people will just opt out.

Okay, I'll admit, those last 3 suggestions are probably just me. "Sad to say."
I really wish that more comedy films got the same deluxe treatment as most horror films have already received.
I believe you forgotten about Shout Select. Incidentally, we DO need more Select titles.

Also incidentally, I'd love see Mars Attacks! myself plus Westworld (and Futureworld via Shout!'s deal with MGM).

I’m with you guys. I hate to play the exchange game like that but if Shout is going to take a hard approach then I’m going to do the same.

Do you follow the label Terror Vision? They're a former Vinegar Syndrome Partner Label who have branched out on their own. The label Insider who posts on their dedicated thread recently revealed that they are "in talks" with Warner for licensing deals. They're such a small label and relatively unknown that frankly I'm surprised that they already have a foot in the Warner door but I'm encouraged by the news all the same, especially since the label is branding themselves as "all encompassing", meaning they don't favor just one or two genres. I'm hopeful we may someday see films like Telefon and Steven Seagal collections through TV (Terror Vision). Anything that Shout isn't interested in pursuing themselves may see a home with these guys.

I didn't see that. They have a possible deal with WB brewing? Hmm, I'll believe it when I see it. I mean Kino hasn't been able to get a deal in yet and the same with most labels. We'll see, but the more labels the better working with WB. They simply have too many films not on HD disc.

Maybe under the new ownership Warner may now be even more willing to license, which would be very beneficial to us hardcore collectors, needless to say. The boutiques do it better

I was beginning to wonder myself, but I got my notice two days ago. I ordered on the last day of the sale. According to the latest tracking info, my order should hopefully be arriving tomorrow.

Agreed. I hope Kino can get a deal with them, as you know Kino will release a lot of titles and will probably go for all the Charles Bronson ones like Telefon, Red Sun, and St. Ives. That would be epic.

Shout's email said not to worry about it unless you haven't received notice by end of work day on Wednesday. I'll send a message if I haven't heard by then.
