Blame it on the unions. Once a filmed segment >30 minutes, it is considered a feature and royalties have to be paid to all the actors, director, etc. That is why you will not likely see any 90 minute documentaries anymore. By breaking a long documentary into 20-30 minute segments, the company avoids having to pay additional fees.

I'm much more likely to watch the entirety of a long doc if it's broken up into segments (likelier over time as opposed to in one sitting). Feature length docs are intimidating. The only issue with this, for me, is having to watch opening and end credits for each segment. The days of feature length makings-of are mostly history now anyway.

It's weird listening to this interview and hear Cliff talk about working with Jeff in past tense now...

The licensor gets to sign off on all bonus features, so it's not like Shout has much of a say and I doubt they want to pour a bunch of money into something that can't be included on the disc.

Quick question -
Can anyone confirm that the 4K sale is legit? As in, the sale prices are actually marked down from the usual price instead of artificially "on sale" after first raising the prices? AKA what Amazon is infamous for. |

Yes, they are on sale. These are just about the lowest prices you will find for most of these.

So here's a totally random thought that popped into my head the other day...
I'm a little surprised that none of the boutique labels have tackled releasing the Stepford Wives films yet. Although they are nowhere near the top of my wishlist when it comes to films I’d like to own on Blu-ray, I’d be down for purchasing a quality box set containing the entire series:
Maybe it's a licensing issue? Maybe there are problems with the film elements? Maybe they just wouldn’t be profitable enough to even bother releasing them all? ![]() Anyway, just throwing it all out there "just in case". ![]() Either way, there are still too many horror film franchises which have multiple sequels that I would rather see released on Blu-ray first: The Howling, Children Of The Corn, Hellraiser, Prom Night, etc., etc.... |

So it's probably locked away for good; best chance would be if it got released somewhere else on BD, and you just imported that release. Sleuth is in the same situation, and it got a German BD release, IIRC. |

Looks like my Walmart that I work at is going to be selling that Killer Klowns from Outer Space steelbook oh it sounds so dang tempting to buy it next week along with The Gate Blu-Ray steelbook. I probably will although The Gate will wait till I get paid the week after next week.

The problem *is* the rights unfortunately. The first film is owned by a pharmaceutical company, believe it or not, called Bristol-Myers Corporation and they own the production company that made the film, Palomar Pictures. It's said they want a BIG amount of money to sublicense their films out which is why it's currently impossible for this film to see another home video release (same with the original Heartbreak Kid). The made-for-TV sequels however have a good chance of seeing Blu-ray releases because the first sequel was released on VHS by Embassy, then Nelson, meaning MGM might have the home video rights. CBS/Paramount owns The Stepford Children and the Stepford Wives remake though I'm not sure if they have The Stepford Husbands too (Anchor Bay released the VHS), that might be with however owns Victor TV Productions. |

I've already posted this elsewhere but thought it was significant and topical enough to be posted again in this thread:
Absolutely heartbreaking news to hear, sincerely, I am completely stunned with sadness right now. Mr. Corman was a true maverick filmmaker in every sense of the term and an undeniable legend of independent filmmaking. Whether it was under the banner of American International Pictures, Filmgroup, New World Pictures, New Horizons, or New Concorde, Roger knew how to "stretch a dollar" for all its worth and deliver something out of essentially nothing and still make some money back. As a director, a producer, and even an occasional actor, Corman lived for cinema. His ability to see the potential and talent in young "nobodies" as well as his tenacity to give these people a chance to work, learn from experience, improve their skills, and even pursue their own artistic visions is truly unparalleled still to this very day. There are so many graduates of the "Corman School Of Filmmaking", many of which have rightfully become legends themselves within the film industry. If you ask me, that alone speaks volumes about the man and his overall impact. Although most of Corman's work has been either unfairly ridiculed or dismissed outright by many as cheap exploitation and schlock over his multiple-decades-long career, thankfully he lived to see his work eventually earn critical reevaluation and even received proper recognition for all of it (in the form of an honorary Oscar). Honestly, I can't think of many other filmmakers more deserving of a so called "lifetime achievement" award than Roger Corman. With a life-long filmography reaching triple digits, it's incredibly difficult to narrow down which exact film(s) will ultimately be his legacy (especially if you are a die-hard fan of the Corman brand such as myself). Perhaps more importantly, Roger's legacy will simply be that he was just an overall great person in real-life, a quality which can't be said for the majority of people working in show business (film producers or otherwise). Despite his budgetary limitations and quest to always turn a profit with his work, Corman somehow remained a cinematic intellectual and a rule-breaking artist with a counter culture ethos and sense of integrity. Roger Corman was and will forever remain one of my all-time greatest heroes and inspirations. An enormous "THANK YOU" goes out to Mr. Corman for everything he has done. Your films and body of work are more influential and beloved than you may have ever fully known. Rest in peace Roger Corman, The True King Of The B-Films! ![]() ![]() (^ Arguably my personal favorite photograph of Roger Corman.) Here's a solid rocker that will be blastin' out of my speakers in your honor sir! ![]() |
