Scream Factory purchased half the Corman catalog a few years ago. The other half went to his kids. Either SF has it or they don't. Roger Cormans death isn't likely to have any impact on whether they release that film or not.

Does anyone know who owns The Undead (1957)? Library of Congress says "Selma Enterprises".

I can't say this a "good" movie, but it's certainly an interesting one, which I'd like to own a quality copy of.

Despite his budgetary limitations and quest to always turn a profit with his work, Corman somehow remained a cinematic intellectual and a rule-breaking artist with a counter culture ethos and sense of integrity.
Indeed worth remembering for example that Roger distributed Secrets and Lies in the US (at drive-ins!) when other distributors wouldn't touch it. And you could call him the godfather of the American New Wave of the late 1960s and 1970s, the greatest period in American film-making, nurturing many of the talents of that era like Coppola (Dementia-13), Scorsese (Boxcar Bertha), Bogdanovitch (Targets), etc.

My nomination for his best film is The Masque of the Red Death (cinematography by Nicholas Roeg). All of the Corman/Price EAP adaptations comprise a singular work of art.

I wonder if his kids will now have access to the films they inherited and make them available for licensing or sell them outright.

The MST3K DVD from Shout Factory says it was licensed from AMC Networks, copyrighted Selma Enterprises.

I was actually thinking of buying that recently only to discover it's OOP. Hopefully Shout brings it back.

I hope so as I really want to see the Carnosaur films finally get released on Blu-Ray it would be so cool. Also PIN which is a title I'm still surprised hasn't gotten a US or Canada Blu-Ray DVD yet. It has been released on Blu-Ray in a few other countries like Germany, and France but not the US, or Canada.

The made-for-TV sequels however have a good chance of seeing Blu-ray releases because the first sequel was released on VHS by Embassy, then Nelson, meaning MGM might have the home video rights. CBS/Paramount owns The Stepford Children and the Stepford Wives remake though I'm not sure if they have The Stepford Husbands too (Anchor Bay released the VHS), that might be with however owns Victor TV Productions.

I think it's a case of the cost of sublicensing being so high that for Shout to acquire it wouldn't be beneficial for them.
If they just release the first film only it would have a high price tag and people will complain about the cost, That might not be a big deal for collectors, but it would scare-off casual buyers and in the case of the cost of the sublicensing they would need a certain amount of units to sell to break even.
If they attempted to also buy the sequels and remake to release a box set, Shout would be adding the cost of those licensing as well, although I assume the cost of the TV-movies would be cheaper (if their is no restorations needed). The price of the box set would be higher and in the ballpark of the F13th box set, when in reality it should be closer to the Fly box set.

I don't think Shout would ever release the TV-movies on their own, but I could see Severin Films or Vinegar Syndrome taking the plunge! Who knows maybe if someone takes the gamble on just releasing the sequels and it makes bank, then perhaps they'll license the original. I do wishes these films would make it onto Blu....

Shout is strange with their pricing sometimes.

Their 4K Army of Darkness (on sale) is $22.49

On Amazon the same item is listed at $19.99

Most of their 4K discs on sale right now are cheaper than Amazon, but some aren't, and I'm curious as to why that is. If their limited edition posters and/or whatever else they usually include upon release are still available, I can justify the difference in price. But once the limited edition extras are gone, and all you're left with is the film itself, I just cannot see why I would pay more for it direct from Shout rather than opting for the cheaper option in Amazon.

I'd prefer to support a company by purchasing direct, but cheaper is cheaper.

I'm not sure what your issue is then. If you're seeing stuff cheaper on Amazon, then buy it there. If you're seeing them cheaper at SF (which odds are you will), then buy them there. What's there to think about?

Price wise, there's nothing to think about. I never said there was. I'm going to buy the movies at whichever retailer has them for the least amount of money.

The point was that I would like to support Shout directly, but their higher pricing usually prevents this. Additionally, you have to meet a minimum for free shipping, and they ship items slower than Amazon. I just wish there was more incentive to buy directly from their site. Maybe a membership program like Arrow has. Historically I've purchased a fair bit from Arrow.

The vast majority of titles on sale right now are cheaper at SF. It's not hard to find 3-4 titles to get free shipping right now. Also, some people got their order within 3 days, and they package much better than Amazon ever will. So yeah, good luck with whatever you decide, but just know titles are selling out left and right now at SF.

As for SF's non-sale pricing, it's really no different from most other boutique sites. They are never going to be as low as Amazon or Walmart, who sell in much higher volumes. Arrow has no current membership program that I'm aware of.

Nope, they don't have strange pricing... it's just Amazon. They responded to someone a few years ago about the pricing difference.

Was very happy to order Piranha 4K, which I’d been holding off on, and Child’s Play 2 and 3 for around 18 each, much better price than Amazon, and I’ve kept an eye on those for a while, they haven’t been dropping below 27 lately. And with the free shipping, so worth it.

What sold out? I think he meant the Arrow rewards points program. I do wish SF would start a rewards, I have asked them. I think sale orders were heavy initially, I ordered the night of the 1st day after my 10% came through and my order has yet to ship, while I know others already have their stuff.

Ah, the reward points thing. Yeah, I thought he meant some other sort of membership where you get discounts, or titles through a subscription as some labels do. I'd agree that a rewards point program would benefit them.

These titles are among the ones sold out currently: Silver Bullet, Clue, They Live Steelbook, Fargo, Coraline Steelbook, Deer Hunter, Hackers, World War Z, Upgrade, The Man in the Iron Mask.

Well, yes, but my point was: who owns "Selma Enterprises"? In more specific terms, is The Undead owned by the Corman estate or was that film among those purchased outright by Shout! Factory, as mentioned in the post I quoted above?
