I can't stand 2 or 3 but if they included Return to Sleepaway Camp, I'd buy it day one.

Yeah? The whole series sucks anyway. I dig it simply on nostalgia, and dumb fun. The first movie has a shocker of an ending, and IMO, that’s all it has going for it. Everything else is dumb fun. Personally, without a nostalgic proponent to the series, I’d find the whole series easily ignorable.

To me the original and Return works because the humor is dark, often disturbing and the films have a misanthropic streak. 2 and 3 are typical comedy/horror shite that do neither very well.

Ok, I can never argue personal interests - Everyone loves what they love. I’ll make an effort see it that way on the next watch.

agree to disagree, like the other guy said can’t argue opinions. i just feel without the shock factor of the original it wouldn’t even be a film anyone remembers. i do need to check out return to sleepaway camp, i haven’t heard of it. is it like a direct sequel to the original or kind of a complete reboot?

I didn't know about 'Return' either until just now. I know there was an unfinished fourth entry that actually made it into one of the old Anchor Bay releases as an extra IIRC but this 2008 film totally passed me by. The original's Director, Robert Hiltzik, came back for this, but after looking at the trailer I'm only mildly interested. Can't wrap my mind around folks preferring some after-the-fact sequel over the admittedly silly original sequels.

Just a heads-up, Some of SF's store exclusive reissues are dwindling in stock. They're on sale for $17.53. Use the code SHOUT10 for an extra 10% off.

Could the absence of any of the Texas Chainsaw sequels post Part 2 have anything to do with the fact the rights are up for grabs?

You'd probably have a better chance going to the major studios with that. Boutique labels are limited by what deals they can make, and even then it doesn't give them unfettered access to a studio's catalogue. The labels do seem to listen for the most part, but it's never as simple as "oh, Ted wants this one on 4K, let's get to work."

But what a world it would be if it were that simple....

i do understand to an extent, but at the same time if they really wanted to then they could try to or get the rights. there’s tons of films wanted by many people that any label (not just shout) hasn’t gone after or done. it mostly boils down to what these companies think people want and sometimes it's close then others it’s far far off.

but i do agree in the extent that if they’d really listen this would be so much simpler and nice lol

Well, I don't think we know what labels have tried for...because they don't have them. I've no doubt that the big studios don't wish to license everything out, even if it's for weird reasons.

As I understand it from friends who work for a few of the boutique labels, often times studio deals are a bit all over the place--some big titles tjey really want, and some that they might not want as much but think have enough of a following to turn a profit, have decent assets available, and so on. It's almost like a sports draft--you're not likely to get every impact player you want. It's Moneyball, for better or worse.

IN ant case, may we all get what we want at some point or another.

i have seen some post or interviews where it’s pretty much has been stated some labels have had to get the rights to some to get what they wanted. example Kino with Sleepaway Camp 2&3

Thanks for always keeping us in the loop for things, my friend.

Nabbed the following for $53 with credits and the discount you provided:

The only downside is that, as a side effect of purchasing that third title, I now have this stuck in my head.

There's a B2G1 sale on Amazon right now that includes Shaw Brothers Classics vol 1, 2, and 4. Add all three for a total of $242.64 + your tax.

I've only bought one Vinegar Syndrome title that could be considered a slasher - Blood Beat. I adore that movie (and consider it way more interesting and better than Sleepaway Camp), so it's not a problem for me. If VS ever gets the rights to House on Sorority Row and Just Before Dawn, I'm pre-ordering on announcement day. I love those films.

If you love Sleepaway Camp and the trashy slashers VS has released, that's great. I'm only speaking for myself. I did recently watch Iced (on Shudder), and I almost gave up about halfway through.

There are films that some studios just will not make available, often for arbitrary reasons. Doesn't matter what deal you try and broker with them.

Acquiring and releasing any given title can be a really complex process — legally and financially. Sometimes it's a miracle anything gets released on physical, at all.

SFO - What are you future plans with the Blaxploitation boxsets?

Is V2 contingent on V1 selling certain numbers?

Is there any speculation that there may be a V3 to follow?

Just curious as to where your team would like to go with this.

And thank you so much for these. What an unexpected, awesome boxset for America's most underappreciated films. These are some of the best 70's action movies America made, imho. It amazes me how much love is thrown around for Jackie Brown, yet how few people have dove into these. They really deserve the new life you guys have breathed into them.
