Is that a GIF from that terrible movie you claim to love? Blade Runner, or The Keep with it's terrible soundtrack? Or is that a remark towards both those movies...? Ah, never mind. My comedy skills are for the birds these days. ![]() I wonder if that movie will ever get a Scream Factory UHD? Or the next... |

Abby is the only one with rights issues so that one is really up in the air. Not just that it's a huge can of worms that I don't think any boutique label wants to get their hands dirty with. As its premise yeah is really gross, inappropriate, and the fact that it is basically a blaxploitation rip off of The Exorcist yeah I can see why no one wants to mess with this title. 1. Owned by MGMazon - made by AIP, AIP bought by Filmways, Filmways bought by Orion, Orion bought by MGM, MGM bought by Amazon - but the injunction still stands, making the ownership moot. 2. Owned by WB as a result of the court case, and they either have no intentions of releasing it or legally can't. Sadly, I don't see this even being discussed by boutiques, for fear of ruffling feathers. If you see a DVD, even in poor quality, pick it up. Shame none of them are uncut, but there's only a few film prints outside the studio vaults. |

I do know, however, there will be no crosses of red on any of the releases. I will upvote, thank, and second Jachai until this happens. The old Blu-rays are great, but they can all come to 4K. It's time. Scan the negs of the first two, restore them, master everything at 4K, release all three. I'll be in for all of them. |

This one cracks me up. The artist for the Escape From New York Steelbook from Shout had contractual limitations that literally removes every single known thing about the movie. Like they couldn't even make it look like New York for a movie ltierally called Escape from New York ![]() Quote:

I think you have to get permission from the building's owners to use an actual building in a movie poster/blu-ray cover and MGM clearly didn't want to deal with any legal stuff on the steelbook.

Honestly, why? I either never saw the SB before or forgot about it, but that looks like the kind of SB that, if I hadn't known the story of it, I would just be mercilessly dogging it on the homepage. As a side note, I wonder if that's the reason why the Burton-Schumacher Batman Steels look like AI-generated ass. Perhaps those artists had the same foot stuck in their ass that the EFNY artist did? - This reminds me of a story shared on FAH's podcast by one of the guys from Fright Rags, where they got the exclusive rights to the 1986 movie Fright Night...sort of. They could use the name and the logo, but no characters, no poster art, no names of characters, no events from the movie in any form, no nothing, just the name and the logo. They in turn handed the contract right back, since they knew any potential products would either suck, not sell, or both. The Leone films having issues could be MGM, could be Amazon, but could also be the films' owner in Italy, because if I'm not mistaken they're technically Italian films that MGM has American rights to, by way of purchasing United Artists. Then again, the owners over there mandated they look like atomic piss for several years, so I'm sure whoever owns the films in Italy isn't exactly playing with a full deck. I pity the person whose job it was to sit the Italian owners down and kindly inform them exactly what the hell was wrong with the transfers. |

Speaking of Drew Barrymore, I recently rewatched one of her least known movies, and it landed three films on my Blu-ray wishlist.
In the 90s, there were three films made about Amy Fisher: Casualties Of Love: The "Long Island Lolita" Story (CBS), The Amy Fisher Story (ABC), and Amy Fisher: My Story (NBC). Either the CBS and ABC films were aired on the same night at the same time, with the NBC film airing another night, or all three aired against each other on the same night at the same time. Casualties Of Love had a VHS from Columbia Tristar Home Video, but that's it. The rest of the copies are unfortunately boots. The Amy Fisher Story had a VHS from ABC Home Video (1996, so right on the eve of the mouse taking over), a VHS from Anchor Bay, a DVD from Starz/Anchor Bay, and a DVD from Image. Amy Fisher: My Story had a DVD, but I don't know whether it's legit or not. It also had a VHS from Turner which, awesomely, ends with a 20-minute interview with the real Amy Fisher. I have no clue who owns these three movies nowadays, but I'd love if they came to Blu-ray from someone. The Amy Fisher Story in particular is awesome. I honestly think it's Drew Barrymore's best film - not E.T., not Firestarter, not Babes In Toyland where she was clearly off in wonderland, not the umpteen romantic comedies she's made over the last 20 years - this one. This is the film that defines Barrymore to me. I'd love to retire my crusty recording tape, but I'd hate to buy an older OOP copy just for a Blu-ray to pop up two minutes later. |
