Huh. So the Bava's are Blu-ray only and missing the bonus features found on previous releases, including the essential Tim Lucas commentaries (he literally wrote the book on Bava). I think I'll be sticking with my Arrow box set from a few years back. This is great for people who never picked most of these up and aren't into special features, but for me this is one of the biggest missed opportunities Scream Factory has ever released.

Any idea if these are new transfers, or is this a stop-gap for 4K releases? It does seem like a scaled back version of the Arrow set (although it does have more films, and new special features, so it's still killer).

Less versions of the films than the arrow and kino releases plus it doesn’t even state that they’re new transfers lol

Is there more than 1 HK release for the month or will it only be City on Fire?

Can you please tell us when we might be seeing the next Shaw Bros collection?

Also if "Men Fom the Monastery" and "Shaolin Martial Arts" might be included?

I'm glad they're back in print for those that don't have them already, but it doesn't sound like these are new masters compared to the KL / Arrow BDs. I think everybody was hoping we'd get new 4K UHDs of these at some point.

Love the artwork but I already own most of these. Great set for those who've only seen a couple of his films though.

I'm still hoping for upgrades of some of his better known titles.

Yeah, they're the same masters as Kino/Arrow. I don't believe SF got access to any negatives/elements where any newer scans/restorations could be performed here.

I wonder if Arrow will be the ones who create new scans for the UK market. I don’t have the original Arrow set but I just feel like I should hold off on this for something better in the future.

That's unfortunate, but at least they're back in print which is always a good thing.

One key improvement over the KL versions is going to be the SDH subtitles. If I remember correctly, Five Dolls for an August Moon, A Bay of Blood and Baron Blood didn't have subtitles at all.

I just noticed that Hatchet for the Honeymoon is also not in this set, which is surprising. Maybe there's a second volume down the line?

88 Films has (had?) a really strong release of Hatchet.

I have the Redemption (KL?) version, I assume they both use the same master? I don't think I ever saw a screencap comparison of those two, but I do remember the audio being quite damaged on the US disc, although you get used to it.

That one I'd love to upgrade, a nice and nasty piece of work from Bava.

ShoutFactoryOfficial - Are the Bava films Hatchet for the Honeymoon and A Bay of Blood using the Kino transfers or the Arrow transfers?
