tbh says more to how low quality the average action movie is. For instance: The Killer was trope ridden(generic cop that "doesn't play by the rules and the sheriff hates him" for it and assassin "with a heart of gold") . If THAT is the peak? Very dire.

Didn't even do an interesting spin on it as the ending is the generic Hong Kong action ending of

Nothing for me among the Shout/Scream announcements earlier. Glad though as I still have some older titles I want to get (film and television).

I just want to know what the “two new release dates” are, and how many are going to be actual Scream Factory titles, i.e. new horror titles.

Happy for everyone else! Love that this stuff is being preserved and released in the US! But basically the entire HK Classics line is gun-heavy action films which... is just boring for me.

Joking aside, I'm more partial to the first two A Better Tomorrow movies, but Hard Boiled is still great, from what I remember.

They've been doing "partial" AI cover art for about a year now. Well, maybe not specifically Shout, but the design firm they've contracted has been cutting corners. I first noticed it on the Krampus Steelbook.

For me someone saying that The Killer or Hard Boiled sucks is like saying The Godfather sucks. Sure there is that small percentage that may not like a film that most would consider a masterpiece, but the moment you say something like that, everything you say after becomes white noise.

Funny how Shout got bullied into ditching the shabby Blaxploitation set's artwork, but the A Better Tomorrow Trilogy looks just as terrible.

Alright, fellas. I loved The Killer (finally saw it last week) and really liked Hard Boiled when I saw it years ago and am excited to catch up on Woo's other films. Let people have their opinions. Everyone has that supposed masterpiece they can't stand. I don't trust anybody who isn't at some point the voice of dissent.

Deatharcana even specified not liking gun-heavy action. What would you expect them to think of John Woo? You wouldn't put someone who isn't an ass-man in front of a Tinto Brass film and expect them to like it.

I agree. I love Hard Boiled, but if someone else doesn't, so be it. Not the end of the world. There are plenty of films I don't care for or do not like that are similarly acclaimed or looked upon favorably, ie a lot of Criterion's catalogue would fit that description for me.

I don't enjoy slice of life films or films that dramatize everyday life. Don't ask me to sit through one that is called "The best of its genre" because I won't bother with it, no matter how many people like it.

Agree about it being a perfect film. It's only improved the more I see it (shocked every time I realize I only gave it 4.5/5 when I reviewed the disc on here 13 years ago). Did you see it in theaters when they played it a few weeks ago?

I saw The Killer and Hard Boiled in the '90s and saw first hand the influence HK action cinema had on American action flicks from the era. I think those who are seeing these films only recently perhaps won't appreciate the impact since they're used to watching the imitators that came after.

So far as The Killer is concerned I can still remember the excitement of hearing the RZA sample the film on Rae x Ghost's album. Certain personal experiences make you love some art even more. So when others don't see said art the same way I guess it can feel like a personal attack when it isn't.

I also agree Shout's Hard Boiled art looks lame. Not as horrible as the Howling steelbook, which is almost laughable, but still lame.
