The US transfer of Assault has been criticized and all it has is a commentary and an interview. It seems like they said they'd be doing a brand new master.

I have wanted a Darkman SE for years so that's the must-buy for me here. I admit Universal's DVD of Cat People is pretty packed, but it's still nice to know it'll go HD.

I honestly don't believe Universal will license out Army of Darkness again. It's possible, but I'm skeptical. It seems to me that they licensed it to Anchor Bay and Anchor Bay made boatloads of money on it. I doubt Universal wants to license it again and have the same thing happen, so they'll just sit on it and do nothing with it. It's also just kind of a played out title. It's had eight US releases so far (Universal DVD, Anchor Bay Limited Edition, Anchor Bay TC, Anchor Bay DC, Anchor Bay "Bootleg" DC, Anchor Bay Boomstick, Universal HD-DVD Combo, Universal Screwhead on DVD / Blu), and I'm not sure we need another one, even though none of those releases were definitive.

Any one of these titles could've been announced on a regular Friday schedule or on facebook - why wait until Comic Con?

Wait a sec here.... Here's an announcement we all seemed to have missed. From Scream Factory's Facebook page:

"SCREAM FACTORY “TV TERRORS” –Two made-for-TV movies - 1978’s THE INITIATION OF SARAH and ARE YOU IN THE HOUSE ALONE? – will be packaged together on DVD for the first time at a good price. Fans have been asking us if we could exploit more of this made-for TV content so consider this an “experiment”. If this sells well, we would love to look into bringing you a “Volume 2”. (Dec 2012)"

DVD-only, but they also announced a double feature of "The Initiation of Sarah" and "Are You in the House Alone?". If it sells, another volume may come to pass.

Here’s the list of upcoming films we literally just announced at Comic-Con tonight:

JOHN CARPENTER’S ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 (Collector’s Edition) – The original classic siege thriller is intensified f...urther with all-new ‘Scream’-produced extras. (Nov 2012)

EVE OF DESTRUCTION – The 1991 Gregory Hines android-gone-amok sci-fi thriller hits Blu and anamorphic widescreen for the first time.

SATURN 3 – This post-Alien 1980 Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett vs. Evil Robot flick gets a considerable upgrade to Blu-ray for the first time. New extras planned. (Dec 2012)
DARKMAN (Collector’s Edition) – The 1990 Sam Raimi cult classic gets the full on ‘Scream’ treatment with all new extras. (Dec 2012)

SCREAM FACTORY “TV TERRORS” –Two made-for-TV movies - 1978’s THE INITIATION OF SARAH and ARE YOU IN THE HOUSE ALONE? – will be packaged together on DVD for the first time at a good price. Fans have been asking us if we could exploit more of this made-for TV content so consider this an “experiment”. If this sells well, we would love to look into bringing you a “Volume 2”. (Dec 2012)

CAT PEOPLE (Collector’s Edition) – The 1982 feline flick (with Nastassja Kinski, sex, violence and a great David Bowie single) arrives on Blu for the first time with all-new extras (2014.)

We still have more tricks up our sleeves for 2014 and we are working feverishly on trying to close deals so that we can announce more favorites soon!

Yeah, that's true. Sorry to bring up DVD news here again but I just thought it was overlooked. Still, pretty nifty if you ask me.

Huh. It appears that only 4 of the 6 titles hitting blu-ray will be CEs.
-Nightbreed will almost definitely be.

Cat People = Not all that interested....
Assault of Precinct 13....probably the one 80's Carpenter movie I didn't like...
Saturn 3 - I liked this one, if the price is right...I'll get it.
Eve of Destruction - Loved it as a kid, hate it as an adult. Pass.
Darkman - I'll get this, since I missed the Universal release and the first one is pretty good. This is Raimi's answer to the Shadow, since he wasn't given the rights to make the Shadow. Sam Raimi's loves The Shadow radio program's and was a bit burned when he couldn't get the rights.

^ Excellent! I'm more excited for the "made-for-TV" DVD announcement than any of tonight's blu-ray announcements. Will definitely be buying this!

I watched Are You In The House Alone? on Netflix recently. It wasn't very good (and it's not really horror at all). Still, it was very watchable and had that goofy made-for-TV charm I love. Initiation Of Sarah is great though!

Very underwhelming. Cat People for me and maybe Saturn 3. No double dipping on the other titles. Oh, well. Much ado about nothing.

They have to work on it a bit so they probably don't want to announce a date yet.

That's probably because it's from the '70s. It came out before Halloween did.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Carpenter box set!
-Assault on Precinct 13
-Body Bags
-The Fog
-Prince of Darkness
-They Live
and maybe throw in the DVD of Elvis.

"Darkman." Cool, hopefully at the very least they get Raimi to do a commentary, and I can only hope for interviews from Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand, Larry Drake, and Ted Raimi and maybe even Bruce Campbell for good measure. But, I just don't get why they didn't get "Army of Darkness" if they could get this one.

Yes, "Darkman" right now deserves a better more special features filled release than "Army", just because "Darkman" never got the proper special features treatment ever, if I'm correct? But, "Army of Darkness" is right behind it. They almost go hand in hand in Raimi's career. Filmed one after another, they kind of represented a turning point in his career.

Not to mention "Army of Darkness" deserves and needs a definitive edition that takes everything Anchor Bay ever included in their releases, along with both cuts of the film. Just see this as a missed opportunity. But who knows maybe they worked really hard to try and get it and for some reason they couldn't, who knows.

Certainly isn't played out on blu-ray.
